Every town mentioned in this song is in Cape May County! Fortunately for those in CM, Irene is now expected to only be a Category 1 or 2 when it hits later today, August 27, 2011. My thoughts and prayers are still with those who faced mandatory evacuation.
I hope that Cape May will not fare too badly during Hurricane Irene, which is supposed to almost directly hit on August 27, 2011 as a Category 2 or 3 storm. My prayers are with all of those in Cape May County!
This song always get stuck in my head when someone say Cape May! I live in Indiana now and many people ask me why? LOL I'm a philly girl so of course I would know this one! :)
Thank you for this song!!! I went to Coast Guard boot camp in Cape May, May-Aug. 1957, "Golf 32". I have fond memories! It was the first place I ever went to out of Florida, except when I took a train from Florida to Charleston, SC to be sworn in the next day there on my 17th. birthday. I spent one night there, then on to Cape May. I didn't realize there was this song until this evening! Wow! How about that! If anyone in the Coast Guard wants to contact me I'm carrinsr@gmail.com!
Head down there this morning with my new girlfriend for a romantic two night stay. this song will be stuck in my head for the entire 3 hour drive, than you very much!!!
This song is a great trip down memory lane for me, I grew up in South Jersey...and this song makes me miss home! Thank You for posting this, I thought for sure I wouldn't find it.
My Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop have the CD with this song on it! We listen to it every year when we go to Ocean City. BTW, I'm going there on Saturday and I'm so excited! :D
This song is played every Friday on the radio stations in Philly and south Jersey during the summer months. Having moved to Pittsburgh I no longer hear it. Funny how you miss some things. Cape May is my absolute favorite beach town. Anyone going should either take bikes or rent them and spend the day peddling around town. The houses are beautiful, the town is clean, and the people are friendly. Be sure to head out to the lighthouse too.
@Jenlillian mhm, 98.1 WOGL's "breakfast club" still plays this (and sings along with it) every friday at 6:45 and 8:45. Feel sorry for the fact that you moved, perhaps if there's some way to pull audio off a radio and onto a computer...
@LordVurtax ...I hate the beach by default because I hate heat (being hot) so I don't do Wildwood, Cape May, etc...and being born & raised in Philly, most do just flock over to NJ for Labor Day and other Summer things...LOL listening to WOGL is the closes I get to the beach and I sing along right along with the Breakfast Club.
I just moved to the Cape May last year from Chicago and love it. It is alittle slow during the winter, but thats what I needed. Me and my fiance are getting married in June at Sunset Beach. NJ is so mellow and I love this song. GOOD JOB
My mom's final resting place is The Delaware Bay off in the distance from The Cape May-Lewes Ferry. This song is very special to me. Thanks for posting it...RIP Mr. Alberts
This is a great song, my Uncle lives in Cape May and taught this song to me. I don't live in Cape May but I am in NJ.
Now this is 100 percent true, he was playing a gig somewhere here in NJ and had this song requested of him, he denied the man's request saying he didn't like the song. The man that requested the song had written it! LOL how's that? Now he plays it all the time!
I've always liked this song because it mentions a lot of the other shore towns too. My parents always threatened to sign me up for Al Alberts showcase if I was misbehaving...I hated the frilly dresses!
Lol...when I was "on the way to Cape May" in April of '65 I was almost sh_ _ _ _ _ ing
my trousers, my first day in boot camp age 17. But fond memory now, especially Wildwood. My memory only serv es my few sober moments there, the rest is somewhere, I don't know!
Gracey830, The name of the song is On The Way To Cape May performed by Al Alberts (of Four Aces fame). It was a recording that was not widely-distributed (For example, I got a cassette tape with that song over a decade ago when Al Alberts and some of his Showcase kids performed at the Cumberland Mall in Vineland, New Jersey). You probably could not find that song today, too bad because it was a Great song even though it was a personal tribute to Cape May, NJ.
anyone who favors wildwood over cape may is insane cape may is one of the cleanest beaches in america! Not to mention the victorian homes and the millions of dollars worth of realastate! it is an absolutley lovely place. Wildwood is ver ver dirty! the beaches arnt clean and it takes nealy amile to walk all that shore line and reach the water. Condos are goign up everywhere. The only neat thing about wildwood are the waterpark and boardwalk.
Great video! My family and I live in Glouscester county. We have never stay ed in Cape May, to pricey. This year I'm going to try my best to make it work. It's time we vacation at the shore in our own state instead of traveling to Va. or NC. I love our shore. I just hope I can find a nice updated place we can afford. Thanks for taking me there.
I love Cape May. We go there every year and my Aunt and Uncle have a motel in Wildwood Crest. I found a shirt in a shop that is close to Carney's and the mini golf course that had the lyrics to this song on it.
i love this song...and its not on itunes... :( me and my grandparents and uncle and aunt and cousin always listem to listen to this on our way to wildwood...i wish it was on itunes though
I'm dissapointed there were no pictures of downtown Cape May with all of its Victorian buildings. I'm from Connecticut but I think Cape May is the best beach town in the US.
You rock! lol Cape May is the best beach town. I have a house there and I am getting up in 6 hours to drive down for the weekend. Just sang this song in Anglesea on the 4th. lol
My thoughts exactly when I saw this. The beautiful Victorian architecture is what made me fall in love with this charming town back in 1998 and return just about every year since.
I love this song. It brings back so many memories of spending the summer at Tamerlane Campground with my Pop-Pop, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sea Isle City all the way. Thank you for posting this. :]
