You have to go forward before you can go backwards.
.
Sure, bang for the buck, most CDs sound better than vinyl. But that is because most vinyl pressings suck and many are pressed from dubbed tapes (not from the master tapes).
.
A properly pressed record, from a master tape, played on quality gear, is far superior to anything digital.
.
For sound quality, digital is backwards compared to quality vinyl.
@NoEgg4u it doesn't matter about the pressing. Vinyl will always be better. It has more information. A track on a CD has about maybe 60 megabytes of information. A vinyl record has probably twice as much.
Digital format is only good for portability and thats that. You can't put a record player in your car! Vinyl is the only format that reproduces true sound because the music is etched in to it, it's right there physically pressed in the vinyl. I mean, it's like taking the band home with you and have them play in you'r livingroom.
I know vinyl has retro appeal...but the fact of the matter is...it just sounds better.
Im 32 years old and have just discovered vinyl. I love the artwork, I love the fact that some of the albums tell me what equipment was used (im a keyboard/synth player...so it satisfies my geekyness). I love the look, feel and smell.....and the sound rips CD to shreds. Honestly...on a semi decent system...the warm, atmospheric sound/vibe is just BEAUTIFUL. I also like sharing the moment with friends....
"vinyl sounds better and is more "organic" to DJ with!"
I know mate. I remember when digital CD 'turntables' started appearing in clubs....and I used to watch the 'DJ' 'scratch' and 'mix' his pathetic little silver discs. Honestly....it was the most embarrasing site. The 'performance' was sterile....just like the overly compressed and dynamically challenged music.
I take comfort in the fact that more and more modern music is being released on record.
@robotbillfold I collect for the music not the "fad". I collect mostly KISS records and everything else with the KISS logo on it. I do have much more than them though. I have almost 200 records in my collection. I also have The Beatles, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Buddy Guy, Zepplin, Rush, Sonny And Cher, & much more. I prefer more Rock 'n' Roll. I am only 12 and have been collecting since December 2010.
vinyl rocks for the simple fact that the music mafia can't just go ahead and do the same loudness war bullshit on vinyl like they do on CDs.. .physically not possible :)
i'm new to vinyl, just got into it. not because i wanted to get in the fad, but because i had a dream of when my father gave me and my sister some of his old records and a turntable stereo when we were kids. i remember how much i loved the feel of it, but the records were thrown out (horrible) and the stereo stopped working. now i've bought a new turntable and already have 6 records again. it's a great experience.
yeap. Vinyl was beat up and tossed away. Piled up in everyone closet and forgotten. But guess who gets the last laugh. Vinyl wins again. 120 years......and counting!!!
i was born in 1983 and i've kept my parents vinyl and bought my own over the years. i only have a few dozen but their all classics and i'm beyond glad that new vinyl comes with and MP3 version so i can take my music with me. i love vinyl!
I've been getting vinyl since I was a kid in the 80s. Vinyl never made a comeback because it's never gone away for me. I'm in my 30s and glad younger people are getting in to vinyl.
@GermanNintendoGamer It's not so much that vinyl is better than digital. In fact, high quality digital like CDs sound superior than vinyl in terms of having no external noises like vinyl have. MP3 and downloads are horrible in terms of sound quality and it's funny how many people don't seem to notice or care, but it is noticeable if you listen closely. Vinyl is warmer and sounds just as good as CDs if you have a good turntable, needle and clean record. I have albums that I prefer the vinyl.
Vinyl WILL be around long after CDs are gone.
