  • Beautiful.

  • 2:26 - How could you get up and out of your seat during such an awesome performance of a beautiful song???

  • Such great contrast from the beginning and the end. Beautiful! But being a tenor, I just think there could have been more power behind "sweetest angel voices gloria gloria" with the D, E, and F and other things that make me sound smart. I just love that section so much, so of course I'm going to be greedy.

  • Best version ever.

  • What happened to the first sopranos?

  • I revisit this video every time I'm having a bad day—it always lifts my mood. Beautiful.

  • I still think this is the best recording of this song on youtube.

  • Our son was in the Nordic Choir on this tour. We were able to go along & hear all of their concerts in Europe. I agree that the different college choirs shouldn't be in competition. I was in the Augustana College Choir (Rock Island, IL) a long time ago, and we live in Forest City, IA and have heard the Waldorf Choir sing many times. The whole point is that God has given us music and it is to His glory that we sing. Music is a universal language. Share it with joy!!

  • Luther has a fantastic choir. And this is one of my Christmas favorites.

I am not familiar with this arrangement. I know of this one up until 3:33 or so. Next winter, my choir, the University of St. Thomas Festival Choir (St. Paul, MN) will be doing this. I am very excited for it.

  • @dahlcj This is the original, unpublished version. I'm not entirely sure why Stroope changed the published version. Glad you enjoy it.

  • Beautiful minus all of the obnoxious coughing from the audience.

  • is this by z randall stroope?

  • Indeed.

  • I will agree, quite the recording; blend of voices, purity of sound. But please quit comparing choirs as if we're all competing...isn't the reason we're in music to experience life on a whole new dimension, as part of a larger group?

  • @rebeccaharper2009 I agree with you completely! if you don't mind me asking, are you a part of this choir?

  • budv9bv, I'm actually not a part of the choir. I'm teaching elem. music right now, but sometimes wish I could be a part of something like this. Guess I get to encourage others to strive toward this, though :)

  • I ask because I am part of the augustana choir in Sioux falls. I don't think it is about competition either. It's about touching the live of those who hear our music!

  • I was a part of the Waldorf Choir in Forest City...and even though we may be small, you see the reaction from people who come to listen to us and can't help but feel the love and warmth surrounding everyone :)

  • i love this song... my choir at school just sang it for their concert they did absolutly amazing!

  • Shivers. Shivers all the way.

  • We're singing this in Chamber Choir for our Winter Concert. It's such a beautiful song!

  • hahah i got to sing with this choir!!!! was not a member but we did a joint concert with them in high school! such an AMAZING choir!

  • ya sorry to say this but Waldorf...??? WTF.... I don't know if there is a better collegiate choir in the world than St. Olaf or the Nordic Choir of Luther College (where I'll be singing next year btw!)

  • I am convinced. This is the finest choir in the mid-west. Whether it be in tone color, musicality or nuance it doesn't matter. It's beautiful, just beautiful.

  • That cathedral is beautiful...

But not as beautiful as this song or the choir. :P

  • I love how people have to make everything a competition. But if that's how it has to be, I'm sure you guys are good, but I'm pretty sure Luther and St. Olaf are much more well renowned than Waldorf.

  • The Waldorf Choir of Waldorf College sang this song for our Christmas Fest...simply an amazing song!!!

  • hahahah i have Eric Christiansen as my highschool choir director who is the grandson of F Melius Christiansen...no one can beat that... and by the way he is just as great as paul or F Melius hard to believe i know... and we are singing this song.

  • @Swany243 JEALOUS!!!! that's amazing!

  • our choir is singing this also

  • really? our choir sang this piece too! it's such a beautiful song!!

  • i'd really love to hear the low basses a little better during "hail the star where hope is burning, gloria"

    they did a wonderful job

wish i was there to hear them live

  • The Nordic Choir is amazing and I have been a fan since my high school years. I recall the Nordic under the direction of Weston Noble. Singing in the "Hall of Faith and Light". This song brings tears to my eyes. God has blessed you all in his music. Please clearify...the world is not going to lose the Nordic Choir?! and that the comments from above were of that of seniors and their last concert with the Nordic!

  • In Cathedral this past semester we sang Be Not Afraid and it was kind of fun to see all the red markings Weston Noble had his choir put in the music. It's such a cool feeling to be a part of something so amazing and moving.

  • My choir is singing this right now...it's such a beautiful song:D

  • Wow, as an alum of this choir and watching this video, it is amazing the feelings it brings back just watching and listening. Amazing we sound as good as we do, considering the emotional wreck we were in considering this was our last concert ever... Thanks for posting, Vanessa DVM.

  • Although I'm just a freshman at luther this year. I've talked to my sister who is a 3 year returning senior to this choir, and after talking with her and some luther alums after the home coming concert this last sunday, the general feeling on why this is is because of the devotion, all luther alums and those currently enrolled, feel to creating beautiful music until the day they die. The world would be a sadly less beautiful place without this choir.

  • what piece is this by the way?

  • -All My Heart This Night Rejoices

    by Z. Randall Stroope

  • This is Awesome! I wish Malaysian Lutheran Church Leaders have some vision to have a choir like that! But sadly they DO NOT.

  • My choir just sang this at our last concert, and were doing it again for a competition. I love it! It's beautiful, and so much fun to sing.

  • My choir is singing this song right now. It's a really beautiful song, I just wish we had all the man power this choir does. they're amazing, but I must say, we aren't half bad ourselves :D

  • The ultimate sign of a good choir is when they can maintain energy at tempos like this. I agree with brosseau - I've heard Luther under Noble and now under Arnold - there's no denying Noble's legacy, but it was time... Luther is now in my book a close 2nd to St Olaf and is better than Concordia-Moorhead. Good stuff!!!

  • 2nd to St Olaf? I find stolaf choirs (especially the sops) to have a lack of unity at times. I have heard the 3 choirs and I don't say they are better than concordia- moorhead. Some years the choir at luther is best. other years it is concordia who wins. Listen to Concordia's Lux Arumque from their evocations cd. It blows anything I heard out of the water

  • I shouldn't have even brought it up! And I'm not even a Lutheran! :-) I'm sure conclusions could vary when comparing these three choirs from year to year and certainly from person to person. I was referring more to legacy - if St Olaf has long been considered the standard, I believe Luther to be a close second. Recently I heard all three in one season and I must say I was less impressed than I thought I'd be with Concordia, but still all three are incredible. (And yes, the Whitacre rocks!)

  • Yes, I agree. St. Olaf does have the legacy. In fact Melius Christiansen (founder of the st. olaf choir) had many sons one of which, Paul J. Christiansen went over to concordia! We really can thank Melius for the wonderful Choral Tradition he (and his sons) has brought to the MN region!

  • You make a good point...the MN region. All Lutherans and Norwegians should be aware that there are other choirs in the USA that have achieved heavenly perfection as is often so applied to St Olaf and Concordia and Luther. I personally think Concordia has the edge under Rene Clausen. Still, the Christiansen legacy is one that cannot be denied, especially when Minnesota colleges were begin founded so many years ago. There wasn't a whole lot else to do than sing!

  • gorgous

    this song is amazing

  • One word - BEAUTIFUL! - Penny

  • What a beautiful song! And Nordic Choir is amazing... I hope to be part of it one day. Still have a couple years of high school to go, though.

  • This song is absolutely beautiful, and Luther's choir definitely does it justice. My school's choir is singing it, but we're not near this good.

  • Nice to hear Nordic on the way up again.

  • It Never was down, under the directorship of Internationally Acclaimed Muic Icon, Weston H. Noble for 57 years. - Nordic Alumna

  • What a rare treasure to find this on YOUTUBE! Am an audiofile and love great choirs, Concordia, Cambridge, BYU, etc. Even though the audio leaves a lot to be desired on this recording, it "forced me" to order the CD from the website! Please post more - this brings back memories of working on the undergraduate degree and touring, and meeting Howard Swan among the greats! LOVED IT!!!

  • cool

  • an amazing choir!

  • Wow... wonderful tempo! Props to Nordic!

  • Great stuff. Am an alum; miss hearing this sort of great music (and participating in it) on a regular basis.
