Go watch Iggy, the Dead Boys, the Clash, they were decent for Mpls in 1978, and were one of the first up there, but hardly blow away, and yeah;;; I saw 'em live, in person at the Longhorn a couple of times. They did all get a lot better as they got older, my guess is the reunion stuff is likely much better than the original stuff. It musta' been cool to have been in the mix in the "brand new scene" of punk though, cheers to 'em !
They'd get gigs at these bars in the outer burbs where the few people who'd show up, besides us, wouldn't get what they were doing. The sound on 'Make a Record' Is pretty thin. They sounded better live. Neither Chris nor Steve were all that great as front men, they didn't put on all that much of 'a show.' But their gigs were a blast because they always rocked, and the crowd got into it, or didn't, and it was always a scene.
Someone told me about this band last night. They said it was their favorite punk band. They didn't tell me the crazy story behind the video though. A worthy archive! Very cool!
I saw the Commandos in concert around 1979 or 1980. They were incredible, one of the most energetic and exciting bands around. Lost some hearing that night but it still resonates after all these years!
Chuck Statler did this one didn't he? He's great - I love all his work with DEVO. Suicide Commandos kick ass, and Chris Osgood gave guitar lessons to many great guitar players.
The Suicide Commandos were such a great band. "Make A Record" is one of my all time favorite albums. It's a great injustice that they don't receive more recognition. Thanks for posting!

They sound like a cross between Blood Rock and the Ramones, and I mean that as a huge compliment.
At the end of a PBS clip in Minn from a Ramones show, you can hear a woman say "I'd rather see the Suicide Commandos."
I think they both rule
