I'm considering getting this guitar but I don't quite understand what the different modes of the Sustainiac do. Could you explain it or demo the mode differences?
I have no idea.. I read a lot of reviews on pickups before I buy a new or used one and just slap it in... regardless of the wood's characteristics.. It has always worked well for me.
you think the super3 is good in an ibanez rg? (mahagony + maple + rosewood fingerboard) i now play an seymour duncan sh5 (custom) and its super trbly and harsh and not very thick. i think i dont want to play a tone zone cause its so bassy and undefined. from the specs i would say the super3 would be pleasent for me.. u agree?
@Winterhe4rt I have a DX10D with a Super 3 and Humbucker from hell. The super 3 is gritty and has some growl to it. but it sings and is well balanced.... I can split the coils and together it's super clean, you will lose some gain but split it sounds great, and it cleans up a lot. It's a super DISTORTION 3 after all. plus check tone capitors, those can do a lot and are cheaper
@Winterhe4rt Hey, if you're still after pickup suggestions, I've had good results from the sh14. It doesn't get overly bassy and has really good definition. IMO it's the truest example of a PAF on steroids as they say. Acts like hotter pickups in perceived power but has the rawness of the PAF to my ears. I'm using one in a Les Paul however and haven't tried it in a flat bodied RG type so take my opinion for what it's worth there. I also did experience the same issue with an sh5 as you did.
@rocke214 thx for the suggestion. i tried a tone zone which was really shitty and now play a dimarzio d sonic, which is one of the best pups ive ever heard and played, period. i tried the super3 and it was awesome as well but relly lacked the bass department. no matter what i did with eq and pedals it was really to soft in the lower end. which was really a pitty cause midrange nd treble was as perfect as it could get to my ear.
Cool Guitar Mate ive already 5 guitars this is definitely my next guitar im going to buy Dk2s Sustaniac! Awesome dude! im selling my Fender Stratocaster eh.. hhehe and im going to buy this Jackson Sustaniac with Harmonic Mode!
you bought the wrong jackson guitar because it comes with the seymour dunken pickups. you have on Dimarzio pickups. Why did you replace them? Seymour Dunken pickups sound good with sustainiac. Vivain Campell from Dio and Def Leppard, he plays Kramer and Jackson guitars and it comes with seymour dunken pickups. It sounds for soloing and music.
Just to clear something out. A guitar doesn't have to be american and cost a fortune to sound and play well. This is just a bad opinion. Most guitars with a good setup and some mods will sound good to perfect through nice equipment. And i have personally seen cheap guitars destroy much more expensive. Not to mention that the best strat i've ever played and listened to is a mexican. There were tons of mods though but you get the point.
@topografer To end this most cheap guitars suffer from electronics (and not only the pickups) and factory setup. A friend of mine has a modded epiphone which is just a great les paul for all priceranges. Well he was lucky though because where QC is poor you have to be lucky (or search) good to get a good guitar. So before buying instuments try them ALL!
Dude.. I've seen people playing customized Squiers on stage... so.. yea.. I don't see why not.. it is a 500-700 dollar guitar before the mods... quality built.
I actually now own a real PC-1. The DK2-S didn't sound quite as good, but as far as the sustainer and pickup combo it was pretty similar, but the real PC-1 sounds better mainly due to quality of wood and such, but yea.. on budged this axe rocks.
If your amp has a headphone jack on it.. yea.. of course... I don't know if I quite understand your question because.... your AMP is the limiting factor here... Plenty of amps don't have headphone outputs on them, but plenty do. Typically most all tube amps don't, but a lot of digital amps have them. Now if for some reason you'd be jacking headphones directly into the guitar... well.. yea... it should work fine, but you'll hear a clean guitar... and a sustained clean is kind of lame.
How expensive is it to replace a licensed FR with an Original Floyd Rose. I mean with the exception of OFR and neck thru. The foreign guitars are so damn close to being the same thing.
Thats my dream guitar i may get it for my 18th man. how good is the 22nd/24th reach of the fretboard? Also which one would you get out of the This guitar or Jackson RR24?
When you say.. your dream guitar.. do you mean the DK2S or a real PC-1? As far as preference... I'd never own a V style guitar... you can't sit and play with them really at all. Plus you will chip the paint of the tips easily and you have to buy a special stand for them. All in all unless you are playing on stage in front of people or just have a boner for a RR guitar you won't be doing yourself any favors in getting one IMO.
lmfao if your going decide between a dk2s and an rr i would reccomend you play both first. You can sit down with and rr. I would know because i have one, it's amazing, but the sustainic on the dk2s might come in helpful though.
I pretty much agree with dimarzio's website.. It is a more mid-rangey pickup. Dimarzio rates it like this:
Treble: 5
Mid: 8
Bass: 6.5
They have sound samples on their site if you want to check it out. Listen to a couple of current Def Leppard tracks such as Nine Lives or Hallucinate. Those are a couple of the better tracks.
Yea.. those are good. I put one in the bridge in my Gibson SG Faded and it made it sound more like a Les Paul. The burstbucker bridge pickup is brighter than what came in the SG.
I wasThinking of getting a SG But I always thought hey used the same pickups on the les paul so I never really thought the sond was different by the way nice test with the pc-1
Depending on the SG and the Paul in question they could be the same, but The cheapest true Gibson Pauls use Burstbuckers and the cheapest true Gibson SG uses 490t's in the bridge. Thanks on the playing BTW..
I didn't have much in it at all really. New the DK2S sells for $700. I paid $325 for it used with a working sustainer & Case. I paid $100 for the pickup set and in like new condition. I have since sold this guitar. It sold for $550 with a hardshell. So.. overall I made around $100 on it, but I did get really good deals on the parts and the guitar to start with. I have since bought a REAL PC-1 Chameleon and love it. But for a quarter of the price this one was real nice.
One thing I hate about the DK2's and the PC-3 model guitars is that the front knob is WAY close to the humbucker. I would always find myself feeling restricted while playing due to the knob positioning. If you look at a few pics of the DK2, DK2S, and the PC-3 guitars they have basically the same knob positioning. The CURRENT PC-1's though have the knobs AWAY from teh humbucker and makes playing room MUCH better. There are some older PC-1's that have the DK2 control knob layout though.
Ive got one im replacing the crappy duncan designed pickups & replacing them with an EMG H4 in the bridge position & a EMG S3 in the Middle position then this guitar will really Kick serious ass its definetly the most equipped espcially when the Emg are put on
I've never really been a big EMG fan. I did have an 81 and 85 set in a Les Paul copy for awhile.. if you want metal sounds then that will get it for you. The best EMG set I owned was the David Gilmour strat set. The DG-20 I believe it was called. Since those days though I'm pretty much strictly a Duncan and Dimarzio fan. I have a set of lindy fralins in one of my strats that I REALLY love too.
