Well, you know what they say about opinions...yours stinks just as bad as anybody else's and I don't necessarily like looking at it, so fuck off, douchebag!
I think every baby boomer in America should pay The Rascals 10% of their yearly salary to give them back what they deserve. They ARE the image of the 60's and what it represented. America's band...
I'm a "baby boomer" and I wouldn't go THAT far. They were another band among many bands at that time with a few good songs. But, that's about it. They are NOT the image of the 60s for if that be true, they'd be an image of violence, hate, war, destruction, disallusionment. If you notice their later tunes, they were tunes that gravitated towards peace, love, understanding ... that "hippie" stuff, you know? America's band? LOL ... I heard that was the Beach Boys.
In the love dino's drumming club. Another point, not only did he rock...that boy swung...rockers might not understand that term..Jazzers know exactly what i mean
Fantastic. Love the clip. The Rascals were the greatest American band in the 60's. Sure the Beach Boys and the 4 Seasons were fantastic but for pure music and a tight sound the Rascal were it! Dino's drumming was second to none. His timing was perfect and he always looked so cool. Felix was a master. His Hammond B-3 sound was so soulful and made the music sound so full; Gene was an accomplished guitarist who blended perfectly with Dino and Felix. Eddie's voice was so melodic and soulfull.
Good work synching up the sound. I've never seen film of these guys live onstage so thanks for the effort. One of the greatest bands ever in my opinion.
GREAT SYNCHING - like my uncle did with a video clip form Hawaii and a Hawaiian tune - getting back to the Rascals - always wondered what the hell happened to these guys - typical ripoff artists in the music business who should never be there - they wrecked quite a few damned good acts - begone with ya - will have to dig my old reel to reel tapes out of the attic and listen once again to these guys - music when it was called that. Will always want ot hear more from them.
Yeah, Columbia's music publishing company had their songs as well. Steve Stills' main problem with not being a Monkee was the fact his compositions would have been owned by Don Kirsher's publishing company. The Rascals took the big carrot held in front of the donkey. They should have stayed with Atlantic even those last records with Columbia were cool jazz fusion mix.
Interesting how Dino still talks about The Rascals when except for last week and about a few times since '72 they've played together. They sold their publishing 35 +years ago and lost millions doing so. It crucified the band. Felix hates the others: big time. He could be in a 22 room mansion on his share alone. Dino & Gene get rare gigs as The New Rascals. Felix is all over the place.
The Monkees met a similar fate by signing their rights away as kids with no legal advice. They were star struck and went for the white hot spotlights on their signatures on the contract. Made a salary of approx $400/week, no residuals and a no compete clause with COLGEMS music to never be able to use "The Monkees" name....forever. Davey Jones lives on Florida's Treasure Coast raising and caring for thorobreds.
I actually know Dino on a personal level. I'm dating his step-daughter and I also work for him. After his music career he followed a very strong hobby of his, Metal Polishing/Motorcycles. Hes been my boss for awhile. I talk to him alot. He still plays drums, and still talks about The Rascals and how much fun it was playing with them. He lives about a 10 minute walk from my house. His birthday was yesterday. Me and my Girlfriend made him a cake.
@TomalsMcWheat If you are still in touch with Dino please let him know he has millions of fans who appreciate how advanced of a drummer he is / was. I showed Rascals videos to my drummer nephew and he shares them with his friends and they all ask "how could he be so good so long ago"? They are all early 20'0 in age. He is awesome!
Dino certainly was a very fine drummer. His style, exemplified by pushing the beat and a tight crackling sound was historically eclipsed by the Bonham style of a thudding sound slightly behind the beat. Dino used the traditional grip, which is almost never seen in rock drummers now. Dino: tight skins...Bonham, Baker, etc: loose skins. The last big rock name pushing the beat was Mitch Mitchell (RIP). I was surprised, but not shocked to hear the Buddy Rich anecdote.
we grew up in the Bronx in the sixties and Dino was one of our favorite drummers. I used to wait for the bus at 238th street in front of Dr. Felix Cavaliere's office, (Felix's father, a dentist). Local kids with a dynamic sound and something to say.
Eddie Brigatii-great vocalist and still one of my favorite singers...period.
Back-in-the-day where I grew up, on popular-radio, 93 KHJ am & KRLA, this music was considered a part of the progresive music made by upcoming mexican-american groups, aka "chicanos". It's not a bad thing, rather a recognition that anybody can make good, catchy music, and they just happened to be from the local "east L.A.; Whittier; Lower Valley; whatever - areas
Felix'birthday today (born on 29/11/1944) 64 years young and still giving those in younger groups 40 years start. You are a legend Felix and no one can manipulate the keyboards of the Hammond organ like you.
I just attended Felix Cavaliere's Rascals, awesome! Felix is an amazing guy, he even took the time to meet with us after the show to talk music! It was great!
And one more thing XMIR11OB... in the 80's, Buddy Rich (you heard of him?) was a guest on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Johnny said to Buddy "we know you're number one, but who do YOU consider one of the top drummers around"...Buddy replied " Dino Danelli, ya know, the kid who plays with the R&B group The Rascals. Theres something magical about him".
XMIR1OB-- Altho you think you know everything, I will respectfully disagree with you as to the drummers Dino "cannot touch". There are so many differences to their styles , it would be too much to type. But as a huge fan of Dino, I bet you didnt know that before the Rascals, Dino at the age of 16, was asked to sit in on Lionel Hamptons Jazz band ALL THE time. They saw talent that was UNHEARD of in those days. Believe me, I too am a fan of Ginger Baker, but their styles are not to be compared.
Another thing XMIR110B, it appears you've got more hang ups than a fuck'n art gallery. Only big headed bastards like you would start a sentence with the word "wrong". What makes you sure your ascertain is correct and that you're not a self opinionated cunt.
Glad you don't refer to the voting polls. You're choice of good drummers are in the monority. Just have a read. Any further comment you might write will be ignored.
Fuck.. Felix's voice is soooo good, plenty of grunt too. And Dino would beat the pants (pardon the pun) off any drummer going around, past or present.
