I honestly don't know if Bin Laden was himself responsible, but again, you underestimate how simple it was to pull off those attacks, and yet how complex the situation itself was. A properly coordinated group of TEENAGERS, given the basic motivation, could have pulled off those attacks. Try looking at the pre-9/11 security in your average large scale airport. Speaking as someone who remembers it, it was surprisingly weak.

Ummm, yeah, prior to 9-11, our security WAS that bad. I think you're making the mistake of referencing our security NOW as opposed to then. Fact is, at any given point, there are THOUSANDS of planes in U.S air, as was the case on 9-11. The idea that back then, two or three could be successfully hijacked and flown into buildings, is not that unreasonable.
I don't think you actually comprehend the complexity, yet simplicity, of the attacks.
