What I think happened was the Japanese ship was turning right which they aimed right at the Ady Gill, so the skipper of the Ady Gill think that they will still be heading right to crash right into them. So he tried to get away from the ship by going forward, but then stopped because he realized that he wouldn't make it. Well after all that said, I think it was the Japanese at fault because they were so far away from the Ady Gill but then they just aimed right at the Ady Gill minutes before crash
