I read your biography, quite a life you had so far !!
It is true that people tend to pick up an accent before the personality....I am guilty too...although my accent (I am British !! :( lol) is from all over, people always misplace me. I went to India a little while ago and some thought I was Scottish or from London !! LOL
TBH to me the French accent on a woman makes me melt....I could listen for hours...in any language ;)

You're not killing your accent, you're just learning a new one. Actors should a few accents in their repertoire, keep it up and I'm sure you'll do fine.
