  • why can't mainstream music be good anymore. WTF makes me so angry

  • 5:27-5:30 oh shut up

  • yes thanks Gary for your music, sod the critics, when have they ever known good music?

  • awesome thank you gary numan for your contribution to british music industry synthpop king

  • How fit was Gabrielle Drake?

  • listen, I am a girl, and I had my hair like him and dressed like him, and completely immersed myself in his music in the late 70s and early 80s...lol

  • Yepp- Gary is a genius- always thought that from the moment I got my first Numan LP 33 Years ago :)))))))

  • Gary Numan is awesome-He has got the very first synth I designed for Kontakt 4-Gary and Ade Fenton have a the first copies.

It is a synth based on ARP's Quadra synth with added 16 step analogue sequencer.

If you want a copy go to my channel and see the video with the web address on.

    Peacex

  • yeah man that part between 5:26 and 5:40 where the guy was talking about all of the put downs, but then how do you explain the popularity of glam rock from the earlier part of the same decade then? Marc Bolan looked like a straight up woman and so did The David!

But I see it never stopped them, didn't even stop that paedo Glitter from putting on makeup either. Only the devastatingly ugly Slade was the quasi-'manly' group of that time.

  • @jrmetmoi that's andy mccluskey from omd- he also used similar put downs when he talked about he band Japan- the video is on here, its called "Japan on Pop Years 1982"

The guy sounds like a jealous moron honestly.

  • @paintedship I think Andy is stating what the press said about numan.

  • @SPFXsynthesisers He says it with such conviction you think he's saying it. I wouldn't be surprised look at how he smacked Japan around as some joke. Numan's career wasn't shortened either. He was putting records throughout the 80s. They weren't as popular but the way he made it seem was like he gave up.

  • @paintedship I see what you mean but I sort of get the impression he means it from the way jounalists have been very cruel to Gary in the past-It seems only now Gary is getting the recognition he truely deserves-lets face it Gary Numan is a genius-I know that word gets bandied around alot these days and mostly about ppl who are anything but genius but I think Gary is one of those rare genius and he is very down to earth as well about it all.Japan were an awesome group also.

  • @SPFXsynthesisers I agree. He said: "I think Numan's career was shortened by nasty, nasty journalism", after those descriptions he mentioned about Gary Numan (plus the comments from Gary himself )

  • @paintedship Andy's talking about the press and the musicians union and what they were saying about the whole synth scene of the late 70's.

  • I'm sorry but the outfit that he was wearing back in the day sitting on that white couch is giving me all kinds of sex, the kind of sex that ends up on the floor from the bed, and then finally ends up against the wall.

It's the same outfit he wore on Kenney Everett doing I Die You Die. It's hot-ot-ot-ot-ot!

  • I love the details about his makeup! LOL LOL But no serious, I'm a girl and so I would wonder about that kind of stuff, why not? LOL

  • Fucking love this guy,not in a gay way but just fucking love him he is so down to earth and the fact is he is awesome.I contacted him asking if he would be interested in having a version of an old synth I have replicated in software and he got in touch with me and said he would be honoured.

My software is a recreation of the ARP Quadra synthesiser which GAry used on the Micromusic tour.Check my channel to see its developement-its nearly completed.

  • Yes he is a GENIUS.....

  • You gotta love the classic Trim Phone and talk about Max Factor when that interview was recorded.

Gary looks a bit like Duncan Bannatyne from Dragons Den in this video, but with better skin and no botox!

  • I know how gary feels :) I am a guitar player! always was into rock/punk music!! and one day I got to play on a synth :) it all changed for me :) I get grumpy if any digs at synths!! they are not a wuss instrument at all! very very powerful

  • @Fender1976uk They're only powerful if they're the old analogues or they sound a lot like the old analogues.

  • fantastic program. thanx bbc

  • thanks for that, I really enjoyed it

  • joanne catherall has got quite fat!!!

  • She looks great.

  • @PatrickIngham21 I know and it's a shame cause the other one isn't.

  • the wig is blocking my upload!

  • numan: WIG wig wig wig WiG Wiiiiiiiig!

  • @typhusbuffet Gary uses the same wig as Erik Estrada!

  • @typhusbuffet It's real, you idiot. He had a very successful transplant a long time ago.

  • Gabriell Drake geting out of a car and Gary Numan's Cars Playing, thats about Heathen to me.

  • Um Do Caberite Voltaire know they exist yet lol

  • Who does Gary circa 2009 look like? Its sort of Croc Hunter, Joe Mangle, Mike Myers meets Adam lambert

  • Is that Mike Myers playing an aging Gary Numan?

  • The time when I didnt care about anything what people thought punk era ahh a time machine please

  • Saw Numan last nite over in Wolverhampton.Grab a ticket Fantastic!!

  • Thanks for posting---saw him in NY 1998---incredible.

  • he needs to come back to the states!!

  • The BBC rocks

  • THANX FOR THIS !!!

Far beyond in time+ still very actual !!!

  • Watched it ,great stuff they do more like it.

  • Simply brilliant, Love Numan, love the BBC for what looks to be a fantastic doco, looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

  • For GNeuman: Is there any way you can upload the entire documentary to youtube?

  • Oh, you've got it. Great doc. Missed most of the performance bit though. Bah!

  • That was an absolutely superb docu last night, weren't they all dead complimentary about Gary, espc. Andy McKluskey? Great stuff and thanks for posting!! I taped it last night as well :-)))

  • Sorry, I meant McCluskey....

  • Yes numan is a genius. Its nice to see him get the praise he deserves. Both the tv shows last night were great.

  • i was well impressed with the both shows last night.they included all the great stuff from the 80s that i love..and they gave a lot of credit to daniel miller who really was one of the first of the british synth artists

  • @themachman19691 Yeah, Love Warm Leatherette.

  • Comment removed

  • ive had the pleasure of seeing gary live many times and his shows are a fantastic experience and beleive you me this man is hot his synth melodies are incredible and although the german influences and human league and omd

were around as well at that time you would have to say that gary took this genre to the next level he raised the bar

and was definetly the first synth star
