Does the asymmetry of Jo's glasses give anyone else a twitch? Every time I've seen her in those I just want to steal them and balance it out with masking tape.
Thanks to the owner of this channel and NickfromFulham for your brilliant work uploading these shows! It is truly appreciated by so many of us outside the UK (and within too!). Here in Australia we are always one season behind (six months or so) and the timeslot is inconvenient anyway. So it is much appreciated! (we don't get XL either!)
at around 36:38: what on earth are they mumbing about? It sounds like they are affecting scottish accents or something, and then Allen sais something as well....?
@EvesInParadise After mentioning that the second biggest clock face in the UK belongs to the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool they affect a Liverpudlian or 'Scouse' accent, which is often unintelligible to the untrained ear, especially as 'Scousers' often speak very quickly. Alan quotes from a 1970s TV series set in Liverpool: "You dancin?" "You askin'?" "I'm askin'." "I'm dancin'." He finishes by saying "a quarter to two" in a really thick accent after both use the stereotypical "Eh!"
@delacote60 Thank you for clearifying it so well! I'm canadian so some of the more regional material tends to go over my head (or specific quotes from obscure british sitcoms)... :]
@EvesInParadise Same here. I just trust that it's wildly amusing and wait 4 seconds for the next joke. We need more celebrities here to reference. All I can think of off hand is Justin Bieber. Maybe I could just leave it at, "We need more celebrities."
If only I had a penny for every time I've predicted the punchline of a misandrist, misogamist, self-deprcaving Joe Brand joke half an hour before she 'delivers' it ..
When the Shell-Mex clock was unveiled in 1931 it was nicknamed "Big Benzene"...
And when analogue clocks/watches are displayed in adverts/catalogues/websites, they are almost invariably photographed showing ten minutes past ten: the position of the hands is supposed to be subliminally absorbed as a friendly smile.
So does this mean that at some point in the future one of Stephen's chemistry experiments will backfire, sending the QI panel back in time 11,000 years where they will start civilization and give rise to people who worship Stephen as a god?
@dpmeggers I swear, when he stood up to look at that green stuff I was just like 'WHO CARES ABOUT THAT, SHOW US MORE OF HIS BODY!' and then went '...wtfbrain?' 8D
is anyone else wondering what's up with the purple jacket? i LOVE purple so i'm not complaining, but he doesn't seem the type to wear the same thing constantly, let alone at least 3 weeks in a row. is there a meaning? LGBTI pride, perhaps?
@Bearxo17 Or maybe they recorded three shows on one day? Although, coming to think of it, probably not, since according to the making of it takes about 3h of panel action for one show.
Don't get me wrong I love QI and I still like most parts of this episode, but I HATE PRODUCT PLACEMENT!!!
And why did they bring in this "amazing" and "cute" ASIMO, why not the U.S. Army BIG DOG - he is as advanced as ASIMO but is already used to assist in killing people... .
And what about the U.S. Army armed DRONES, aren't they also some kind of advanced robots? - The jokes about "killing everyone" might have been funny in relation to ASIMO, but truth is...
@vitopetre I hate product placement too, but I think that is needed in order to get a thing like that on the show. And about the drones, the thing about Asimo is that he's humanoid and that is more interesting to the general audience than military technology. QI is entertainment, after all.
@vitopetre Well yes, bu that doesn't mean they are inclined to share all of the knowledge there is, because that is simply impossible. But you do have to realize that QI is a comedy panel show, not an educational show, and television is business.
I did not say, that they share all the knowledge there is, but if the already mention "killing machines" in a joking manner, they could just add the information that we already have those around as well...
And I realized since the first episode that QI is comedy as well as an educational show (it has been proven, that knowledge and fun is the best combination to teach people..)
Of course TV is business, still I am allowed to express criticism or not?
@vitopetre Stephen didn't mention them and it wasn't a part of the show, it was a joke made by the panel. It wasn't planned like that. And they seeme dkinda busy with the robot present and what it was doing instead of going off on a tangent. Of course you're allowed to critisize it, but it didn't seem like you put that fact into account before you wrote what you wrote.
I don't get you, which "fact" are you talking about?
My comment would look absolutly the same now, than it did before. Nothing that anyone wrote gave me new knowledge that I did not consider.
I critisize the celebration of those harmless robots, because it's just showing one side of the medal...
Anyway I do respect the fact, that you and a lot of other people do not share my point and that's fine. But that wont stop me to express what's on my mind...
@vitopetre The "fact" was that television shows, even those like Mythbusters, QI etc, is more about business and entertainment than education and "enlightening the world". I wasn't saying that because we disagree you can't express your opinions. I was just mentioning that the nature of TV is profit driven and it's often futile, but allowed, to critsize it.
As I've said, that is not new to me at all, but maybe I fell under the illusion that QI is a bit different and less of a marketing machine than other shows... - but you are right, the QI producers (or at least the financial department of the BBC) are not.
Still I hope that I haven't been rude to you or something, I like to have controversial conversations like this and I thank you for your answers!
@vitopetre Even though they might not be out to made loads of money, they still need some kind of money to make it go around and to continue the series. I'm not British so I don't know how much marketing they carry out in relation to other shows, but it's sort of irrelevant. Without marketing, less people would know about this wonderful series, which I don't think makes "marketing machines" any bad.
@EudaemonicGirl That's not the case with the bbc. Sure a lot of the stuf that they are producing these days is drivel, but profit isn't always the driving force as they are funded by the tax payer. Thats why we get stuff like QI, Frozen Planet etc etc.
@iamthejuggler Since the BBC is funded by tax money, it needs to be commercially successful, otherwise the stakeholders would be unhappy. Producing any TV show, drivel or not, needs to be somewhat profitable. Entertainment can still be to your taste and profit-seeking. It's essential to running a business of any kind.
@EudaemonicGirl Big Dog is, well, big. Though from a technical point of view what it does is more impressive than Asimo, there's not enough room in a studio to demonstrate it; they'd have to settle for showing a clip, which is not as much fun as having a "live" robot. That, and Big Dog is *wrilly* frikkin loud.
watch?v=unO0r_uIQoI or just tipe "big dog robot" into the YT-searchbar...
Of course you will not see big dog kill people in this video, but it's really not problem to mount weapons on his back and make him shoot people while someone pull the trigger from far away...
And even if not he can carry heavy loads for the soldiers - food, weapon or bombs...
Of course he is still way to loud and far from a perfect killing machine, but soon we will be there... - not a nice thought!
@vitopetre It might have something to do with one part of your statement. Asimo was made to test a concept and push the boundaries of robotic engineering, big dog was made for war. You might not know this but Stephen Fry is quite against war, like most of the people behind QI.
I know that Steven and the others are against war and that is why I am so upset, that they celebrate this robot so much without mentioning, that at the same time other robots are already helping to kill people...
btw - if you didn't realize it, I'm also AGAINST WAR, that's why I'm writing these comments...
Interesting thing about the last dutch olympic bobsled team : after four years of preperation and spending millions of sponsorship and taxpayers money, the team stood at the top of the track and decided they couldn't go down, because the driver was scared.
@zawilec :( I quite like Jo Brand. Her random inappropriate comments provide a nice contrast to Stephen's good-natured attitude and the general flow of the show.
@Wolstenholmie I think it's because they're like cards, so they are sorta like the "Joker" cards because the answers to the questions would be "normal" "cards".
@Wolstenholmie I think it's because in some card games where the joker is used, it can either be very beneficial or very harmful, just like playing the Nobody Knows joker can either win you points or make you lose them. Hope that helped :)
@Speakersoxx haha, i know what the buzzers are FOR; i think even a magpie would work that out. i don't know mastermind as i'm not from the UK (i assume it's a british show). so, thanks.
The comments about how it's voice and dancing would have been less creepy, if it was more mechanical, rather plays into the idea of the "uncanny valley" (look it up, it's interesting)
I came back from a game, wanted to watch QI and realized there were no more I hadn't seen. Checked the youtube homepage and realized you uploaded a new one not two hours before! YES
Quite one-teresting. . . had I the money, I would install a womb in myself for the sole purpose of having your babies. Thanx so much from a poor Yank bastard.
This is without a doubt the perfect line-up for a QI episode!
p.s: Good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening, good evening!
@eeviechu I second that with love from The Netherlands. BBC 2 is no longer on cable here, so I totally depend on quite1nteresting for my weekly doses of fun trivia.

Richy15251 2 months ago 5
@Richy15251 I wish she would just try and joke at least once about something different then penises, how big she is or her husband..
zawilec 2 months ago 2
@zawilec fair enough, I guess it's just her style of comedy

WHY does BBCA air old star trek episodes instead of this show? At the very least they should show Monty Python...
kaeyoh 2 months ago 4
They actually got the Fucken' robot to show up!! Bravo!!

Why does Stephen call the Nobody Knows bonus a "joker"? I don't quite understand his use of the word there...
Wolstenholmie 2 months ago
@Wolstenholmie I think it's because they're like cards, so they are sorta like the "Joker" cards because the answers to the questions would be "normal" "cards".
MrJoeyWheeler 2 months ago in playlist ...Q..I... Season 9, Series I XL
@Wolstenholmie I think it's because in some card games where the joker is used, it can either be very beneficial or very harmful, just like playing the Nobody Knows joker can either win you points or make you lose them. Hope that helped :)

could anyone possibly tell me what the buzzers are about? i mean, other than alan's.
jemgrrargh 2 months ago
@jemgrrargh It's the tension music from the show Mastermind cut up into three bits.
SuzyS85 2 months ago in playlist ...Q..I... Season 9, Series I XL
@jemgrrargh The buzzers are to draw attention when you think you have the correct answer. Also, I think it's the music from Mastermind.
Speakersoxx 2 months ago
@Speakersoxx haha, i know what the buzzers are FOR; i think even a magpie would work that out. i don't know mastermind as i'm not from the UK (i assume it's a british show). so, thanks.
jemgrrargh 2 months ago
@jemgrrargh they're all a part of the theme that plays during the BBC series Mastermind's opening.

YES

Fry's little Cthulhu in the speaker was great, I think I'm going to have to try that.
yutzwagon2 2 months ago 3
Damn. I had a neigh perfect run with my answers this time, but then general ignorance struck. Such is the way of QI.
Thanks for the upload though, great episode, creepy child-robot aside.

BTW!!! The metal piece was straight and then the crow bent it. Thumbs up so others can notice it!!!
gishini246 2 months ago 7
@gishini246 the crow pulled it up by the straight end first then turned it around to use the bent end...
indiedetective 2 months ago
@indiedetective no if you watch it again he picks it up with his beak and bends it by pressing it against the wooden block he is on.
gishini246 2 months ago 2
I think really they should've gotten David to dance with the robot.

@eeviechu I second that with love from The Netherlands. BBC 2 is no longer on cable here, so I totally depend on quite1nteresting for my weekly doses of fun trivia.
