  • Depressing.

  • "As i contemplate my being, it comes to me these emotions i feel are not felt outside this planet earth; happiness, sadness. and that from proportion in the universe, i want to evolve, to something like atoms. communicating with everything. i must break down my consciousness, and is individualism still with me then? am i seeking MY terms, MY understand, for things unfathomable....is all mankind. as i am stuck in this conclusion, death approaches; i have no comment of the matter"

  • genial ! nothing else to say!

  • It's from Koyaanisqatsi, not Watchmen you phillistines

  • @robertpatrick It's from both, technically, Koyaanisqatsi just came first

  • @Rockerboy3872 It has been written for Koyaanisqatsi and any further use was abuse and proves every single statement in Koyaanisqatsi right.

  • @largetrout i love Koyaanisqatsi... but you're an ignorant peace of shit... the scene in watchmen where the song is played is nothing less than breathtaking... have you even seen it??

  • @RuzzenThor What the hell did yo just say to me?

  • @redxlexarsdhc I think he means you should go rape a monkey

  • holy crap just came from koyaanisqatsi and hearing this thought i knew it from somewhere, ITS DOCTOR MANHATTEN!?

  • Funny... Scrubs introduced me to him.

  • This was the best scene in Watchmen. The music was so well placed.

  • I saw Koyaanisqatsi with Philip conducting and playing in the pit and the movie on the screen dag that was like 1991

  • all we ever see of stars are their old photographs

  • I think I'll just step into this thick lead-lined chamber over here...

  • Why does it cut off! i want to hear moar!

  • i discovered phillip glass while on LSD. they make a fucking amazing combination

  • @poccnrpride Sad...

  • @K4inan is it? no. fuck you. maybe you should look into it before being a bitch

  • @poccnrpride LSD is a stimulant... Phillip glass is more music that would have more of a depressant effect... it would be better on something like Weed i would be sure.

  • @bleesev2 its nice with weed too. have u ever dropped acid? i wouldnt describe it as a stimulant. coke is a stimulant, nicotine is a stimulant. I guess it could have some stimulant properties, but those are not the biggest effects

  • @bleesev2 LSD is a hallucinogen, not a stimulant.

  • @SquirrellOFC Still, hallucinogens are primarily stimulated with more vivid thoughts, through more rought stimuli

  • @SquirrellOFC And that's why it's prime for this music.

  • @poccnrpride you sir...are a genius. :D

  • @dailysolve haha if only...

  • He has created music that people in the future hopes to make, but can't because he's already done it

  • Trent Reznor may have an Oscar for that hideous facebook movie pseudo-score, but he will never compose things like this, and he will never be like Phillip Glass, Ennio Morricone or John Williams, you know, people who really do movie scores...

  • @Hematemesishow trent reznor is a genious at programming drum beats, unless you can programme drum beats like him, then in my opinion you shouldnt talk,

  • @Timi87 Not that much, and sorry, but I do know about electronic music and industrial. Trent took a lot from Ministry, Skinny Puppy and KMFDM, he is still the guy from that synth pop band exotic birds pretending to be though. That goes for his overrated career, and for the score he did for the social network, it wasnt even good.

  • @Hematemesis What are your views on Hans Zimmer and Clint Mansell?

  • @Rhiilynn I respect them, Zimmer is becoming superpopular, he is good, but not the best. We all loved requiem for a dream, great movie and supberb score, Clint Mansell is a genious.

  • "I feel fear for the last time .." (srry I just had to quote )

  • One of the most beautiful things I have heard.

  • Just discovered this amazing music. I've been alive for 36 years, and some how I've missed it - but this is going to change. Absolutely stunning.

  • This song is kickin' Makes me wanna get down!

  • I've never seen Watchmen. But it can't be that good a film if it doesn't even have its own score!

  • @aaronfromhastings Unfortunately I don’t think watchmen is a very good film however I’d say films that don’t have their own score can be good. It’s nice to see something new though.

  • @aaronfromhastings Really? :D It's really stupid opinion man.. sorry :)

  • @aaronfromhastings Sorry but that is just a silly statement. Tarantino never uses original soundtracks for his films and they are critically acclaimed.

  • @acountddd Tarantino is an exception. For every Tarantino film there are 1,000 poor films that saved on budget by using a few pop songs. It's a rather obvious fact that this will not usually be the approach of the best directors. There is a reason why Morricone is paid such phenomenal money for his scores. It's testament to Tarantino's talent that the songs he used are known more for his use of them now. Nevertheless Tarantino is acclaimed for the films, not the songs, because they are not his.

  • @aaronfromhastings Right, so films can be good without having an original score. Watch Watchmen.

  • @acountddd AGrreeeeed. I think that movie played on my strings unlike most of the live action movies did.

  • i think, these theme is used in watchmen, when the story of Doc Manhattan is explained....sorry for bad englisch by the way....

  • @duichersie1 YOU ARE EXCUSED, OLDBOY.

  • I was listening to this song and walked out to check my mail. When I got to my mailbox I discovered my neighbor had killed himself, he would say hello to me every time I checked my mail... I would pet his dog. This song makes me understand death and suicide.

  • stop typing, turn the volume up, close your eyes and listen!!!!!!!!!

  • when i listen to this i fee like im watching a modern city getting destroy by holy forces.

  • This music is the very essence of post-modernism, in my opinion. Has no life in it.

  • @Ardesco88 Minimalism is not post-modernism.

  • this song makes me depressed

  • I don't like it! It's slow, predictable, monotone, it's dark, cold, kind of.. reminds me of old-fashined catholic religion. And it gives me a headache! But I can't pull myself together to make it stop... It's got me hypnotized.

  • @maaskeimorgen

Not everything You met in real life is sunny , warm , positive and firendly !

Well , this song says in its own way , how we are behvaving as a society and to which result it will lead .

It's getting harder and harder to see to the truth trough pinkish glasses of mediocracy in which is everything sunny and major problems are terrorism and global warming. (In fact , both of them are only subtitutional problems to take away society attention from real problems ).

  • @kony9993

I agree completely when you say "Not everything You met in real life is sunny , warm , positive and firendly".

But to revel in sadness destilled, as is this music, is rather morbid. Sadness IS NOT profundity. I prefer the much richer concerts and symphonies of the old masters, for that is music at its peak.

  • This is beyond our existence

  • Philip Glass, ¿por qué eres tan genial?

  • "I feel fear, for the last time."

Only a sentence from the movie Watchmen, but my favorite quote from it.

  • @jorosco10 My favorite quote too. so good

  • @jorosco10

omg when i listened to this song for the first time i thought of the exact same sentence. I feal fear for the last time. what a beatiful song

  • OMG this sounds soooo familiar, has this been for a movie soundtrack or something? beautiful

  • @knighttrigger this was in watchmen i think

  • Phillip Glass & Ennio Mirricone. 2 Best Musicians Ever

  • God exists. And he's Phillip Glass.

  • @Isket22 God gave us all the gift of Philip Glass!

  • DR MANHATTEN APPROVES

  • Im writing a paper on the wright brothers and their first ever flight while listening to this...... I know exactly what you mean

  • I was writing a physics paper the other day and listening to this piece of art.. That was a sublime experience

  • I saw him conduct an orchestra while the film played at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Mesmerizing.

Merci

  • is this song in watchmen? when dr. manhattan is remembering his life leading up to where he is?

  • @projectbeard Yes, s version of this is used.

  • dude PLEASE RE UPLOAD THE SONG NOW THAT THEY BUMPED UP THE TIME LIMIT! :D

    PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEE!!!!!

  • Seen him in New York with Flaming Lips..Damm great show they put..AMAZING..

  • Empire. Man's dream.

  • Not sure why the pic from Glassworks shows.. different record

  • PHILIP GLASS IS A GOD

  • Fucking beautiful

  • yet more beauty created by glass. this song is orgasmic...it is as if it's music of life, what plays in our unkown livinghood....so beautiful, do i dream with these kind of songs in my unconscience reality? i feel as if this is what you hear when you asend life in heaven...or hell.

  • @poltergiest11

Heaven and hell are great metaphors for emotional frequencies. The top heavy Bach's "Air", for example, pulls one to heaven while a bottom heavy composition drags one to "hell". Beethoven was a master of having bottom heavy parts that transitioned to top heavy parts, which created a welcomed release in tension.

  • Language -> Hopi

  • I could hear this song, in the funeral of humanity *w*

  • looks like another comedian died tonight

  • Wasup, evbdy?

This music genetically re-plays in my head every time I play the lottery.

    - Do I have the money to spare to gamble this year?

    - Maybe this time I'll win!

    - Or maybe I'll be sleeping in the family's dog house....again.

Thank you for featuring this memorable lottery theme on Youtube. =D

  • watchmen?!

i didn't know this was philip glass!!

    awesome!

  • What's the name of the instrument used in this song?

  • @R0ck0fAges Organ. The record is not made in a temple, but it sounds in a temple different... That sound shakes your nerves, like ghosts. I hope you have already seen an organ...

  • @brandistocker Thanks. I have

  • i definitly understand the ideas behind glass's music, but i dont really enjoy it. i love listening to it as ambient music when im doing other things, but i dont think i could ever go to a concert where it was performed.

  • This sort of music needs to be in games more often.

  • When you're after few beers it sounds the most majestic !

  • @wojtasssss Same with Wagner :)

  • 200 years from now, people will be listening to Philip Glass music.

  • has anyone noticed at the end its Koyaanisqatsi only slowed down and in a slightly lower key?

  • @ThePbmarsh

    Yes, you are right.

    Then watch and listen again....

    Repeat...

This is a philosophical treatise on our modern souls.

  • compare with "Seventy by Wouter Joseph Smekens, Philip Glass"(1997/2007)

  • Thats the kind of songs that you cant pause, unless by death

  • Hey "movielover14105",

Why were all of these people having a debate on the oral hygiene of americans?

Cause as it turns out there's no such thing as Santa Claus and Elvis isn't cutting records anymore.

    I hope that helps. (8^)

  • my i askwhy everyoe was having a debate on the oral hyigene o americans

  • I saw a never-ending space craft... Very jagged edges floating menacingly over a futuristic skyline on a neon green sunset.. Who needs drugs when you have music like this that makes you feel like you've gone insane..

  • ** to EriktheNog *** yeah, but at least we Americans have good teeth, and take baths........and what is the right way to set "aound" a toilet seat........?......somehow, think you Erik do know how, as you are pretty full of what would in to it..........

  • @jakeisinspain

You do now that studies show, British people have far better Oral Hygiene That "you" Americans.

  • @jakeisinspain

You do now that studies show, British people have far better Oral Hygiene That "you" Americans.

I aint one to speak at the moment, as i have just lost my front two .

  • @jakeisinspain If Americans have such great oral hygiene why are their mouths full of shit?

  • @EriktheNog, You only listen what you are told .

  • @EriktheNog oi what is with the anti american sentiment. you dont know everyone. America is a coutnry whos main part is larger than europe. of course theirs going to be a few ideots.

  • @EriktheNog I'm American, and i took the shit out of my mouth long enough to tell you: that was freakin hilarious. :D

  • What CD is this?

  • @dripdroptiks It's from Koyaanisqatsi (1983). This song is miles ahead of its time. Near perfection.

  • An opera has words - but no songs. A choral piece has words but no songs. You Americans...half of you don't have enough brains to sit the right way aound on a toilet seat.

  • @EriktheNog I'm not an American -- but you're a pompous cretin.

  • @EriktheNog What does aound mean?

  • @girlsinnappies - It is a typo caused by a key which sometimes sticks

  • @EriktheNog lol thats funny :) ur rite but as an english man i pride myself on pissin ppl off so i sit the wrong way just for shit and giggles

  • @1pezze

    breathe on, fella human

  • I see myself in a higer level right now... I feel myself...

  • @MusicaAustralis hahahaha

  • Also when spiderwebs in the sky and such

  • I MAKED MYTUBE COMMENT OF BESTET SONG

    I AM NOW A FAGGOT

  • @HeatIIEXTEND You confuse and inspire me.

  • Can anyone tell me where I can download this song? It's so awesome! D:

  • @EriktheNog Actually there is words sung at 2:52. Listen for them because you seem to be ignoring them.

  • Oh it's so beautiful. My god Mr. Glass your an angel.

  • Oh and if you like this, check out Philip Glass's Mad Rush and/or Opening. Perhaps predictable and repetitious music but even classical can sometimes do without pretentiousness. They're all hypnotic almost. I love this.

  • This has words, they don't need to be in English!? One of the main phrases is "Koyaanisqatsi" meaning Life out of balance, also the title of the film Philip Glass scored in writing this SONG.I get the impression you stumbled upon this through Watchmen, which while also a good film, is using this music part in homage I think to Koyaanisqatsi. It is played over a sequence of footage showing a hydrogen bomb test, not the Manhattan Project however, but is why it's linked to Dr. Manhattan I think.

  • so epic... so, so epic.

  • this song has made me cry.

    it's wonderful

  • @Vivzid - It is a song? I thought a song has words - shows what a lot I know.

  • @EriktheNog yes a song has ords this is not a song

  • @EriktheNog

Your show of arrogance reveals your lack of use of your Right Brain when listening to music.

If you can’t hear the ‘words’ of this composition it’s your loss.

  • @Vivzid Oh dear, one has to be an American to be that crass surely? A song has a lyric. There is no lyric to this piece of music ergo it is not a song. If you hear words it could mean on the onset of schizophrenia. Get yourself checked - best not to post here or anywhere else until you have.

  • @EriktheNog faggots

  • @EriktheNog hate to break it to you but there is definitely singing in this song. Did you even listen to the whole thing? Also, why would you respond in such an asinine way to somebody complimenting the song. And why the jab about America? Is it cool in your country to be racist? You just need to stop for a second and think, friend. get back on youtube in a few years when you've grown up.

  • @mtensmeyer1 Americans are not a race, dude. But yes, he is a cock.

  • @mtensmeyer1 He wants to think that he is better to you. If you don't respond, he won't cause trouble.

Of course, if he didn't respond by now, you won.
