  • really great job man. that is all so clean sounding. inspiration right here

  • you have very good control and feel. I like the phrasing too, not just wanking - like alot of these vids. Im guessing you're about 20-25 years into playing?

  • What a badass

  • hahaha 00:47 Uncle Skunk 00:56 Eric

  • Anybody that sounds like Greg Howe is often described as sounding like Guthrie... thats odd!

  • U got a great hand, inspector! Really appreciate the Canon style sweeping lesson &

your other various posts. So cultured! Thanks!

  • Nice, man!

  • haz tu propia musica...no copies, si no fuera por gente como tu este mundo tendra muchimos mas musicos.

  • @lalodrum7 asi es mi amigo!!!!

  • fucking impressive...

  • This is great! May I ask how you started practicing technically? I've played for years and I'm good with theory, chords, arrangement and composition. But I suck at playing faster then the jump solo. And it isn't really tight. May I ask what you did? Thanks :) Oh, and your version of Glasgow Kiss is just the best out there. I love it. Fusion on!

  • @soundiscomforting important to use a metronome, sounds dicky, and you must always tap your foot ALWAYS even when you are not playing, speed is all right hand, dont be fooled. Get your right hand good, then the left will follow. Wish i was better on the theory side

  • hey rick what kind of ibanez is that

  • @mcmice666

    Ibanez Joe Satriani model =)

  • I think the tone is more a frank gambale sound.

Vinnie moore, guthrie govan, frank gambale influenced?

    Great job :)

  • has a saxual sound girls dance to, something carlos santana like to do....lol

  • o man! that was so cool... by the way, I've git the same guitar!

  • you matched that one perfectly!

  • wow- your control is unreal! very very good

  • Great very nice, Great Tone........keep it up

  • Smokin'!

  • wow that was awesome!

  • ha ha 0.36 - 1.00 is a guthrie govan lick : )

  • Killer solo! Is that a Satriani sig Ibanez?

  • @Gregorypeckory ITS A JS-2000 HARDTAIL., NO TREMOLO, SOME SAY IT HAS BETTER SUSTAIN THAT WAY?. CHECK OUT THE JS-5000, ITS NICE TOO:0)'

  • very nice, I enjoyed it a lot

  • VERY nice feel! Could you let us know where you got the backing track?

  • This song depresses me.

  • Fastastic....melodies and timing, make me want to study!

  • Very Cool, almost like Pasha Zaburuev =)

  • very fine playing, it reminds me Gambale at his best

  • Loved the tapping similar to guthrie's Eric. Great tone and phrasing too, cheers

  • Excellent! excellent! biuntiful links!! Hello Starlin, i am Brazilian guitarist and I would like to know if you can provide some backing traks from Greg Howe.??

  • You remind me of Guthrie, tone-wise, and I could have sworn I heard a variation of Uncle Skunk's solo part. Hope that shows something. :D

  • Hey thanks man. That part is a technique I have been using for about 15 years - way before Unkle Skunk ;-)

  • @starlinginspector you my friend are a guitar god, one that responds to his fans also....even better! :-D

  • @xgihavoc huh, 0:57 part :)

  • @xgihavoc Agree with you. This solo reminds Guthrie Govan.

    Good Job dude.

  • @xgihavoc Awesome, man. you've listened to alot of Holdsworth, huh? ( me too)..:)

  • to think this guy won't sell a million records it's a shame he deserves to

  • wow...davvero bravo, complimenti!!!! bella tecnica

  • great scott!!!! I think you left blood on the ground....

  • Wow man great playing i just found out who greg howe is and bought every cd of his you sound just like him

  • Is it just my eyes fooling me or does that look like a gold Ibanez JS?

  • It's a JS2000. A fixed bridge model that they made a few years ago, lovely guitar!

  • Awesome, I know they make the Silver model with the fixed bridge now but I never knew about the Gold one.

  • That was fucking awesome!

  • great :)

  • Amazing!! I'm still with my mouth opened!! SUPERB performance!!

  • that's just NICE!!!!! your a great player!!!!!!!

  • Well Done!!

  • It sounded...Guthrie Govan. And Greg Howe of course.

  • Very Gambale-ish

  • VERY VERY well done, perfectly executed and the phrasing fits the song perfectly:)

  • sounds really great man! i think styllistically it fits perfect! the phrasing is very greghowey! lol but still is great! the tapping section fits really well in my opinion. Most of the people that pick on people that have a good technique is because the cant even play like that way, and btw you clearly showed that you are not all about technique like the up and coming petrucci imitators that only focus in technique!

    Great Job!

  • Lol. you're just jealous

  • Lol, i'm really not.

  • It was not over used, by any means atall.

Clearly you have no clue what you are talking about.

  • Total agree. The tapping section fit perfectly. Bravo.

  • What scale/mode is this in?

im not too familliar with jazz playing, but would like to start learning :)

  • You're inspiring brother.

Now I know you love making ballads, but make some groove based fusion tunes for your record god dammit! :)

    Cheers mate.

  • Actually, badass.

  • great

  • Bravo!!!!

  • Yeah it sounds like gambale (playing and tone) but i can tell its Howe!

  • Wow, great job! 5 stars

  • Rick is the MAN.

  • Wow!

  • i like that. bravo

  • beautiful man!!

  • Actually, I thought it was Gambale hiding himself and trying to play a bit different not be unmasked while playing the Howe chalenge :-)

Really impressive, musical and inspired ! Cheers

  • amazing dude, congratulations. i'm from brazil and a like a lot greg howe. and you did it very well. cheers !!

  • As always, Very Nice Rick!

  • great Rick, I love all your videos, its so cool at like 40s when you come back to a previous idea. Do you know where I can get this backing track or could you possible send it to me?

  • I'm Speechless

  • ^^ your guitar turns gold by the end of the video. It must have gone through transfiguration from the awesome playing :D

  • omg, Best fusion improv ive heard in my life. I doubt you are improvising on the spot. If you are, you are god like. I think its improvised previously then changed a bit later on then rehearsed.

  • that was awesome

  • I've just looped this video about 12 times, incredible.

  • Best one I've seen so far. Heard. You had to win, lol.

  • reminds me Guthrie Govan a lot.I mean a lot!

  • he isn't saying that he plays exactly like him, please read man before you post.

This particular piece also reminds me of guthrie aswell, awesome.

  • ditto, I hear a bit of influence from Dr Govan

  • it does sound like guthrie at 0:57 with the "eric" tapping lick.

  • yeah you are great! good playing

  • Love the tone and playing. Sick control too!

  • sounds great...very clean performance!!

  • Very cool, nice improvisation and guitar playing. You sound very similar to Howe

  • I like your take better than the guy that won!

  • That was tight man!!! I love that song too. Great Job!!!!

  • That's okay, 'cause Guthrie has a big Howe vibe, anyway, so it fits...

  • Lemusiqueman is right, this sounds exactly like guthrie. But its a good thing, and ive seen Ricks other video's, hees totally original.

  • great playing dude!!
