This is driving me crazy! Hope u will answer my question: When u buy an ebook from the Kindle store, do u get the actual pic of the book cover? I own a sony ereader and hate when I buy a book and some of them you just the title page but NO book cover. I am a book lover and really miss not having actual book cover pics.
Very nice review, thank you. Unless something more powerful comes out soon I'll probably go for this. The ipad is not a contender because it's backlit.
@TennisChamp59 The iPad is multi media center that also has a dedicated iBook store and it's a very capable reader, especially in low light areas where the Kindle Fails. If you say the Kindle is in it's own class then as an Ebook Reader why the hell is it the same $500 price as the iPad that offers so much more. Who in hell is stupid enough to pay $500 for a gadget just to read books?
I must be stupid enough. On average, I read a book a week. Keep in mind that these are all new releases, so my options are either the Hardcover ($17) or the Kindle Version ($8.99).
Years worth of hardcovers: $952
Years worth of e-books: $504
Years worth of savings: $448
I'm $50 shy of breaking even after only a year. Every consecutive year I'll be saving hundreds of dollars.
Oh, and the iPad doesn't have e-ink. Try reading as much as I do on the iPad. OUCH!
@MrSquitwet I've seen the Kindle's e-Ink, I think it looks amazing. reminds of my Apple Newton. My problem isn't with the Kindle per say, it's the pricing. For the same price and screen size you can get an iPad that has a dedicated iBook Store. Get real about reading on the iPad hurting your eyes, the majority of the average computer user reads articles, I.M's, sends texts, Facebook's all day hour upon hour on the lowest quality computer screens. So far it's worked. The Kindle Dx isn't worth it.
Look, you don't read-- I can clearly see that. In case you were unaware, Facebook and video-game articles don't count as reading, so you obviously wouldn't know if long-term LITERATURE reading would hurt your eyes or not; you're just assuming it doesn't.
Plus, I'm not riding Steve Job's cock all day like you are. How does his big hot wet load feel when it's blown all over your chest after you just got done deep-throating him?
@MrSquitwet Thanks so much for your kind and educated words. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it, really I CAN'T. Too bad you're just another jealous iPad hater. You can't stand the fact that it will be successful and kill your useless Kindle so you decide to trash me and say stupid things. I guess your mother doesn't have brains enough to teach you good english.
@macuser5555 Show me an ipad for $250 and I'll be the first to buy it. Listen, I love apple. I own an iphone, macbook pro, etc. I just want something easy on the eyes to read on that doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Relax.
Yep, fully possible! Either email it using your Kindle conversion email address, or transfer the file using USB. It's explained in detail in the Kindle User's Guide if you want more information. Hope this helps!
Because this works with electronic ink instead of an lcd screen. A real book is for some reason more confortable to read than off a pc screen. It's just nicer to read. The Kindle does not use an lcd screen with backlighting and all, but instead uses high resolution eInk. It looks just like real paper, so it feels like you're kinda like reading a real book.
So how does it compare to the iREX DR800SG? can it utilize open non DRM docs? does it do Chinese characters? does it have ability to expand storage or add extra storage? lastly does it have an active tablet fature and cost under 400USD?
@sex0saurus Get the HP slate. Do not waste your time on the Kindle, Ipad, or whatever. Just do the HP slate. It is going to be the best tablet this year for sure
Great video. I love my Kindle 2 and just ordered the DX because I think I may prefer the larger screen size for home use. Amazon gives 30 days for trying it out, so nothing to lose there.
Are you still really happy with your purchase of the DX?
That was an excellent review. I would love to buy one some day but right now it's just too expensive. I wouldn't mind having one for reading the newspaper because they have gone up to .80 cents for a very very thin newspaper. Too expensive because it takes 2 seconds to read before it's used as birdcage liner.
Our local newspaper isn't Kindle Available anyway. It is digitally available, just not for the Kindle.
Thanks for the review. When you have time, please do a follow up if there have been any changes in your opinion either good or bad. The PDF support is very attractive to me, but I've been reading some disturbing reports online about DX's not displaying entire pages in landscape mode. That is, as you push the next button the pages go "out of phase" or miss the bottom. Have you had that problem? Also did you find out why some PDFs don't zoom properly in landscape mode as you demonstrated? Thanks!
Yeah, I do plan to do a follow-up. Basically, I have no further issues with it, and have replaced my K2 with the DX. PDF rendering has sped up dramatically.
I've had no problems with landscape on the DX. Haven't learned the cause of that zoom issue.
Thanks for the video Brent, I've been waiting for someone to really show the Kindle working. One thing I'm curious about is the weight. The DX is over a pound and that seems a bit heavy for something you might be holding up for hours. How has the weight felt in your hands after reading for 2+ hours?
I am hesitant in buying a Kindle DX because I believe that Apple will probably come out with a tablet type computer in a year or so. I am disappointed in terms of the price. If the Kindle DX cost half of what it costs today, I would definitely pick one up. But with rumors of Apple preparing to bring their own device to market, I am cautious about getting the Kindle DX. I do plan to read a lot of PDF documents.

How do I load a CD from a textbook onto Kindle dx?
bintitabby 1 year ago
My money's on the Notion Ink Adam wiping the floor with the DX. The new Pixel Qi screens are going to rule 2010 and kill off eInk (IMHO).

hmm I don't like the Qi screen, it's almost like a mirror :)
