i just wanted to say i love this song and u do it perfectly dont mind wot anyone else says ... u should do a tutorial video ... id actually pay you to teach me this song start to finnish via video .... and solo ... ur an amazing guitarist ... i hope to b great myself one day lol
This is one of the best guitar solos i ever heard and you do it pretty damn good. Am trying to follow you note for note. Ive got to 0.37 so far but then those double bends are doing me head in. So ill plod on. Rome wasnt built in a day. Eh!
All I can say is wow! Nevermind those who says to 'redo the video', 'improve video camera quality' or 'use this or that. You did very well Sir, awesome cover/tribute. The best part is the honesty of artistically capturing all these in a video IN YOUR OWN WAY in a time when you really just like doing your own thang! :)
Kudos from a Karen Carpenter (and Tony Peluso) fan from the Philippines.
My Dad and Mom filled the house with The Carpenters' music as early as when I was around 7 years old. :D
Such a gorgeous tribute to Tony, which you so lovingly presented,Ray.This is the utmost respect that one musical artist pays to another.
I'm terribly sad that Tony has gone, far too soon. But he left us this legacy many moons ago.So his beautiful music ws never going to leave us.And now,we can dream of the heavenly sounds he is making with Karen
Tony Peluso made history with the Bitchin' riff in the middle of a Love Song . . and it's been a hallmark ever since. You, Sir, . . have nailed it! Kudos! Oddly enough when I'm at home in Chicago, youtube doesn't have the vid ; but down here visiting my new In-Laws in Brazil, and came accross it! I think there's great version by a pipe-smoking music teacher in London. The guy (Stevie?), looks kinda like Orson Wells - he, also does it justice. Have you posted 'I'd love to change the world?'
really great playing ray this was one of my favoutrite solos of that time before I started listening to rock,I remember listening to my sisters album just for that bit!.
Really well played, man. I'm not afraid to say that I'm a sucker for creative pop/rock guitar leads, like Goodbye to Love, Player's Baby Come Back, Starship's Jane and the like. You seemed very comfortable with this one. I can tell you've played it a lot. ;-)
Absolutely Marvellous !!! Could we get together some time, I have Karen's voice and am looking for someone like you. It's always been my dream to sing live, meantime I'll stick to private recordings. BRILLIANT !!!!
Cheers for the response,Ray. Great to see you again,as always. You pay such a beautiful and highly-skilled tribute to such a legendary solo.(And your editing was also masterful - true genius).
Very well Done, clearly much time has gone into practising this, been listening to it since 73'I believe the guitarist plugged stright into the desk for the take on the original,..hard sound to match,A "STRAT" would do it more justice Ray,
To add to my previous post. I agree with the other guy...re-do the video...drop the whammy, pay attention to the riff. Also...consider doing a "learn to do this riff" video...I'd love to learn it, as would others, I'm sure!
I didn't think too much about it, i just played it on the spur of moment, in my own way ! If you and others want to hear it like the record ( without Whammy etc etc,) put on the RECORD instead !!!! Easy !!!!!!!!!!!
Last year, I was listening to Alice Cooper's radio show, and he went into a commercial break saying that when he came back, he was going to play what he thought was the greatest guitar solo ever recorded. Everybody must have totally been expecting some Hendrix, Stevie, Clapton, Page, or other notable riff passage. When he returned, he said his favorite riff of all time was the solo from "Goodbye to Love". He said he'd taken a lot of shit for that over the years, but I have to agree! It rocks!
Ray. You are obviously good enough, but pleeease before you post it properly to the world, do another version without the fluffs and timing gaffs. Also lose the wammy bar and stop looking at yourself in the monitor, and concentrate. You only get 'one chance' to make a first impression.
I played the part of Karen Carpenter at a recent Gig with Ray.. who played the guitar solo superbly.. we hope to post this video on youtube shortly.. All Karen Carpenter fans (of which I am one).. forgive me !.but its worth it to listen to Ray's Guitar solo !!..awesome !!
this is one of my favorite solos ever. i haven't been able to find an accurate tab and i'm not so good at playing by ear. have you tabbed it out yourself?
You know you will be posting a vid if you do get to do this Live.(You know we'd never forgive you if you didn't mate.) good luck for when/if it happens.cheers.
Hey...good job....the notes are all dead on. The actual recording has more of a "fuzz-box" sound, but this sounds great nonetheless. I totally rocks!!!! I love this song by the way.....Richard Carpenter....great songwriter.
I enjoyed this, well played
Steve

just slow down the song, and transcribe it. It takes longer but
you'll learn it better than any tablature.
