wubi isn't an OS it's just an installer, much like Unetbootin. wubi still downloads Ubuntu to use. Using it is a good alternative to dual booting if you must have it on your system. otherwise a live cd/dvd/usb would be another great way to go. Plus with usb keys you can add persistence to save data and settings while keeping a live linux distro. the other easy way to dual boot is a secondary hard drive dedicated to linux.
Nice tutorial/guide. But please do me a favour and learn to pronounce Ubuntu correctly.
I am South African, the origin of the word Ubuntu. You are saying it completely wrong. HWen you say it , it sounds like Ooboontoo
Now try it like this Oo Bun to > Bun as in current bun. not boon..Ya got that? And that comment is not just for the maker of this video, but for everybody that pronounces it wrong...
Hi there . thank you for the video , is very easy to follow and instructional . i'am in the process of installing Linux, hope i like it and not having to go back to manipulating microsoft . will coment again later . kind regards Flori
it works. rather reliably too. only problem i have is that ubuntu doesn't like writing to a ntfs formated drive. and sence windows works best. and sometimes only with ntfs. its not a good ling term or heavy and/or heavy wear work.
Is there any way to load my steam games off my windows side or do I have to re-download it for Ubuntu? And if I install WINE will it be removed if I were to uninstall Ubuntu?
their are actually many distros of linux such as ubuntu, mandriva, opensuse, red hat enterprise, pclinuxos, debian and fedora the list goes on each has its own use but ubuntu, mandriva and opensuse are for more home computers if you dont like windows.
Very informative, TY so much for showing me Wubi. I was worried I would have to use a third party software to get things done. I'm on my way to becoming a Linux user GOODBYE WINDOWS!!! :)
so would i be able to run games like diablo 2 on ubuntu? im sick of windows but i havent had any experience with other OS' . Great vid by the way, this is the least confusing tutorial ever!
on this video at 2:54 windows installer crapes out . I looked at it i think it might be i have a crapy iso image thats when it stops . windows wants to collect data.
Pity - sometimes traffic congestion on your isp can slow it down and various other internet downloads. As long as you eventually got it! You can actually use a CD Image or predownloaded version of linux with the wubi installer - if you are interested send me a message and I can tell anybody how to do this to avoid the lengthy download!
Would avoid doing this as it could end up in legal disputes between yourself the the people who wrote the operating system + me too - this has my copyright!

In the video, are you installing Ubuntu on the same drive as windows? Aren't there any problems if you install two o/s on the same drive (C:\)?
rawbq 1 year ago
@rawbq only problems you might inconter is incaficent memory so make sure your hard drive has enough memory for both
