Dude honestly Apple sucks, thats why "Maybe" they offered warranty to people because prbably most people get theirs broken by technical difficulties happening in their itouches, in thats case overheating that may cause the ipod touch mother board to burn, heat until it breaks somehow, or anything.

I think apple wants us to jailbreak cause they never put the née features on thier older devices it's just the new ones. It should be obvious if jailbreaking was a factor in most hardware failures, and I have no moral problem with claiming warranty if it's obvious that I wasn't responsible for the failure. If my broken device still functioned enough to un-do my modifications, I would do that first and then make the warranty claim. If there was no physical modification and I restored all software to the original state, Apple would have no grounds to claim that I was responsible for their defect or failure.

The only problem I had with you response, was that it made it sound like your modifying your hardware through jailbreaking. And you can't break your iTouch through jailbreaking, theres just simply no way to destroy hardware with software.

Additionally, as you mentioned, a lot of Apple employees will still help you with your iTouch or iPhone if its jailbroken so it shouldn't be too much of a concern.

On the other hand, if you tall them the truth, the chances are that they will do it anyway.

My advice is to hold out on jailbreaking. I've had my ipod touch jailbroken for a while, and its begun to crash and spazz out. Every so often, a jailbroken device must be restored- a definite pain in the A##. If apple finds out, your warranty and protection plan are hosed. A lot of nice features gained by jailbreaking, such as wallpapers on the home screen, are coming in the iOS4 update (only a few days away). Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck!

You handed over $199, $299, whatever, and they gave you iPod Touch. Its yours. You can do whatever.

BUT (!) it DOES VOID WARRANTY. If it breaks, and you bring it in to the Apple store for Apple people to fix, they (99% of the time) won't fix it.

You can restore (wipe HardDrive, loose everything, but it will be back to normal).

But, i guess you could be honest and go in. But if you get music, and apps that your supposed to pay for for free, its illegal.

Yes, Jailbreaking is legal however, you technically void your warranty. Hacking the iPhone/iPod Touch is not illegal. While Apple would like to make you think it is illegal, it is not. It is impossible to get in any legal trouble for hacking iPhone/iPod Touch . You gave Apple money they asked and they gave you an iPhone/iPod.
