okay i was told the girl tht had my nano 3rd generation before me had clicked on sync to this computer only she said it would only hook to hers is this something tht can happen if so how do i fix this??? ty :)
@kikiseven06 I would suggest visiting Apple's Support site to find out how to authorize your iTunes library with that device. Though I believe you would need to put the iPod into Disk Mode and restore it through iTunes to its original factory settings. Once this is done you will be able to sync it with your computer, assuming that there is no damage to the iPod.
@DigiExpress how do i do this without hooking up to the computer since it dont show on there i got it into disk mode but didtnt know wht to do then :)
okay i got a nano 3rd generation it wont show up on the computer or in itunes plz help i have tried all kinds of things.. i tried the usb port i tried the fire one any help plzzz :)
@kikiseven06 take a look into the headphone jack for any sign of a red or pink color, this means water damage. if no water damage, then hold the menu and center buttons for 10 seconds and once the screen fizzles out, hold the center and play/pause button. This will put it into Disk Mode and bypass iTunes. If this does not work then you may have a problem with your main electronics board.
okay umm... i think this could be a problem with my battery or something.... my ipod nano 3g wont turn on unless i have it plugged into the computer... when it is plugged in it says connected eject before disconnecting. and it wont let me do anything else.... it shows the language options for about 5 seconds when i first plug it in..... and then changes to the "connected eject before disconnecting".... please help?
@lorddragongo try doing a hard reset (center button and menu button for 10 sec), then as soon as the screen fizzles out, hold the center and play/pause buttons for 10 seconds. this will put the device in to Disk Mode and you may see it open up in iTunes. If it does, try to do a restore. If nothing happens, then may want to open the iPod to see about the battery needing replaced. Though when you open the iPod check for any corrosion from moisture or water damage. We do have a Diagnosis Service
A year ago, the back light on my ipod Nano 3rd generation stopped working, and I bought an ipod Touch to replace it. Long story short, I dug my Nano out of a drawer and just replaced to LCD screen in it thinking this would fix the back light issue. However, it did not.
I have replaced the LCD screen, updated it, and restored it. Can you help me to figure out what the deal is?
@MrEled101 the "dim" screen issue, having no backlight, is usually the LED lights that are inside the LCD screen. If not then you have an issue with the coil and fuse set on the logic board itself. While I know this exists, I don not know where exactly on the nano 3rd it is located. Basically in replacing the LCD screen you have eliminated that as the culprit and know it is the logic board. You may be able to find a replacement board on ebay or craigslist for cheap, just be careful.
I've just replaced the LCD, click "Play Button" and the iPod is power on and it works. One moment later I've disassembled again the iPod for clean it. Now it doesn't work. If I click Play Button nothing happening. The same if I connect to computer. It doesn't work :( Please, have you ideas?
@nsiac I would check, while the iPod Nano is open, the position of the hold switch. Sometimes this switch gets stuck in the on. If that is fine, then check the clickwheel ribbon cable. The bending of the ribbon cable can cause "kinks" in the cable and it may be damaged. Basically when you apply external power to the iPod it should turn on. But on battery power you need to use the clickwheel, and you would be making sure the clickwheel is installed correctly and the hold switch is not stuck.
My iPod works fine when it is connected to the computer. When I disconnect it from the computer,it still works fine. However, when I turn it off, I can't turn it back on unless I connect it to the computer. Do you know how I can fix this problem?
@s4asuke16 That issue could be with the clickwheel or a faulty lock switch or the logic board. It's really hard to tell off-hand. The first step would be to replace the clickwheel, but I cannot be certain as to why the iPod will not turn on without external power. This would fall into our Diagnosis service, as this is hard to pin down without having the device here with us.
my ipod died and the scrren juss stayed at the apple logo for like 3 days and turned off and now wen i plug it up to my laptop to charge it doesnt do anything idk wats wrong with it
I just bought a battery to replace but I can't get the damn thing off! If I sent you guys the battery with the Ipod would I have to pay any additional money for the repair or would you just charge me the 25 bucks?
@KodySummers The Diagnosis / Repair service (or bench fee) is only $25.00 and we would install the battery for you. In this case however the iPod Nano 3rd Generation model has a backplate that is not reusable. You would see an additional $9.99 for a replacement back plate. This is stated on the parts page for the iPod Nano 3rd Generation as well. Please visit the website for more information or to place a repair order.
@Freakof5FDP Samsung and Apple have had a very close relationship when it comes to their parts. Samsung is just simply one of the biggest manufacturer's of data storage device, now NAND Flash chips as well. They also have powered the iPod Touch and original iPhone with Samsung ARM processors. If you search the recent Apple news you will find that the two are now suing each other and Apple seems to be leaning toward Toshiba for certain parts (mainly LCD screens).
Every time I try try to charge my ipod nano 3rd generation it says "battery low connect to power" , but if it's not plugged in to the computer it is all the way dead. Please help me!! Lol.
@chelsheartsyou That sounds like it may be a deeper issue, we can do a Diagnosis of the device for $25.00 plus S+H. The service takes 1-2 business days to get a Diagnosis result. Please visit our website for more information.

Looks easy on the videos but the back plate is a bitch to remove with the plastic tools that you get. So i finally get it open and install the screen and now it does nothing. so my brother thought he could fix it but he messed everything up! how much will it cost for a new backplate and get it working, he put in a new screen, please let me know
@MegaSlinky For the Nano 3rd generation a new back plate is $14.99 and we have a $25 installation/ repair service. Check out our website for more information.
@Rking100000 If you are having troubles you can always send it to us and we can help you install your part if you purchased the part through us. Check out our website for more information.
Great help, many thanks. I thought I had done something wrong when the screen stayed white but I hadn't realised that you have to do a reset once the new screen has been secured. To do this you just press the menu and middle buttons down at the same time and the screen will go off and the Apple sign will appear and the screen HOPEFULLY should work. Again, many thanks for the video. Was very pleased I managed to do it.
@sk8er4ever9999 The little metal clip that is by the headphone jack does come off, you just need to lay it back in there to hold things in place before putting the back plate on. Thank you and have a great day!
@sanzerellaproduction You can purchase a new LCD screen for your iPod on our website. You can replace it yourself or we can replace it for you for $25. The cost of a new LCD screen for the 2nd generation nano is $29.99. Check out our website for more information.
hi! The lcd screen of my 3rd gen ipod is always white! Music plays, but the screen is always white! Is the lcd broken? I'm from italy... can you repair my ipod?
@Mosky24 We repair iPods from all over the world! It may be your LCD, we'd need our technicians look at it to be sure - our tech fee is only $25 and we guarantee our work for the life of your iPod. There is no further cost for repairing your iPod unless additional parts are needed to complete the repair.
one thing i do knoe is that in the biggining of the vid he was taking of the back plate and at the end of the vid the back plate he put on had a brand new plastic on it so meaning that he bought a new one cuz he knew he was gonn fuck up the one it had
@davidevgen ohh nah its not if it bends just bend it back ... u should see my office right now full of iphone and ipod parts im trying to build acouple out of all these spare parts
this vid is bull ur gonna spend like a hour getting this back off i changed other ipod batteries and iphone screens and thing but this model is a pain in the ___
I don't recommend trying this. The screws/connector ribbons are easy to deal with, but getting the back off properly, especially with that spasticated piece of plastic tool thing, is next to impossible. You end up using a stronger tool, which frigs the shape of the iPod meaning it'll never snap back together properly and be full of crap in about two days.
I'm a big believer in taking things apart and fixing them yourself, but on this occasion I would bite the bullet and pay an expert to do it.
@ClaphamSlag its acutualy is easy just gotta knoe the trip ill tell u one ...u get ur self a flat head exacto knife that will do the trick practice makes perfect im not saying first time is gonna be great but after awhile u will get the hang of it
Actually, I don't recommend replacing the back plate. One you take the back plate off, it won't go back on as tight as it was. This is a good thing because if you ever have to replace the LCD again, it will be much easier to open the iPod. The back plate won't go back on tight on my iPod, so all I did was go to Target, buy a rubber sleeve protector for the iPod, and slipped the iPod into that. The iPod fits pretty snug into it, so you don't notice the loose back plate.
Ha! Easier said than done. I love the way all of the iPod LCD replacement videos make it look SOOOO easy to pry the iPod open. I can tell you, you will NEVER get the iPod Nano 3G open with those little plastic pry tools. It takes a friggin chisel to open that thing. And don't expect it to ho back togther just right either. It's a pain to open and close. The actual LCD replacement is not so hard. Just the rest is hard.
It is possible that you may just need a new LCD, however in some cases, the backlight is shorted out from the mainboard's LCD connector. The only way to tell is to try a new LCD.
I am not able to put back metal plate all the way, is there sum sort of trick, do i need to bend clips back a certain way? or should i just get a new one?
Those can be tricky. It depends on how much the clips bend when you take the back off. It is usually better to just replace the back plate. We sell them for $14.99.
i really need help my i pod LCD broke so i bought one on ebay and i installed it on and connected it to my xbox 360 and it beeps twice then i installed the old one and it doesnt beep please help
Sorry to say it, but that is what you get with EBAY parts. Most of them are defective, and there is no return policy. A defective part can actually cause more damage to your iPod.
To answer your question, when a Nano 3G beeps, that usually means that there is an error on the main board.
Send it to us and we will find out what the problem is.
Here's the deal digiexpress my iPod nano 3rd gen needs a new LCD put in. What would be the total costs of shipping and all to repair it?I allready know the LCD cost $29.99 on your website and the shipping is around $6.50 soo I was wondering what would be the real price in total for you guys to fix it for me?
I purchased an LCD screen and did the repair myself. Did everything exactly as shown in the video. My problem is, when I plug the ipod in with the new lcd it won't boot properly. The screen flashes on and off, no apple logo or anything. Though, the old screen boots just fine with the ipod, minus the fact that is splotchy and broken.
Can some of you who have succeeded at this tell me: how do I get the case to start opening? I work the tool around, but the case halves just don't open. They seem to spread a tiny bit - maybe 1 millimeter - but never go any more.
I got a problem with my clickwheel. I can scroll up and down with it but when I click it doesn't do anything. I can't select anything. Any help there?
how do you install a new click wheel? Mine no longer works at all and I have a new one ready to go with my ipod apart, but I can't figure out how to get the old click wheel off and then the new one on
I replaced my LCD screen on my ipod nano because the backlight was not working. Now the backlight works, but its just a blank white page, nothing else will apear. Do you know how I can fix this?
It sounds as if you do not have the ribbon cable fully inserted. Remove the LCD ribbon cable and slide it back in keeping pressure on it as you lock the tab.
Alright, I just tried that twice and it's still doing the same thing. It's a brand new screen that I purchased from your website, so the screen should work. It must be something that I'm doing wrong. Can I send it to you to work on? And if so, how much would that cost?
Hey man, i've been trying to open this too, i got an issue on the Headphone Jack, i already have the replacement if i had to change it, but my biggest problem is opening the nano. Which tool did you use to open it? Can you point the thickness of the blade of that tool too? It will be reeeeeeally helpfull.
Our techs use a basic opening tool, however they know exactly where the clips are. You can also use a watch back opening tool, which is much stronger. Be aware that once you open this iPod, the back may not go back on again nicely. You may have to replace the back plate.
i've done everything but I was wondering if the ipod will work without the metal backplate. I dont want to put it back on only to find out i have to open it back up.
I got the ipod to open...but am having a lot of problems closing it back...it's not easy as it is show in the video...i still havne't gotten it to "snack" back together
There are metal clips around the perimeter of the back plate. Make sure that there is only a small gap between the clips and the side of the back plate. If there is too large of a space, the faceplate won't snap in. If you can't get it to work, we sell replacement back plates for $14.99.
These can be really tough. We use a watch back opening tool, but please be very careful, you can easily damage the main board. If you would like us to install it, please visit our website, the cost is only $25.
Where does your tech team originate, because my little sister broke hers, an although I could fix it, I don't exactly have the confidence to fix hers, because I messed my iPod up quite a bit, and it doesn't close - I use tape. So what I'm trying to say is, where do I mail it or drop it off to?
Most of the time when you buy a replacement screen for any small electronic part, it comes with a small plastic case opening tool for free. Or you can just buy it online somewhere (ebay) for a couple cents.
oh ok. i didnt know that. where can i buy a replacement screen? i didnt have the tool so i used a set of extremely small flatheads. it worked but idk if ill be able to put it back together without damaging it further.
Well, I got the back off mine, but when I changed the screen the little clip that holds down the ribbon cable broke off! So now I have a nice new screen but no way to connect it to the Ipod...... Where can you get those little clips anyone?
Apple made the 3rd generation ipod very difficult to open and very easy to damage if you don't know exactly what you're doing. What a bunch of fuckers. I destroyed mine trying to get the back plate off and now I have to get another player. Then again if making money is their main objective, maybe they're not so dumb after all!
so i went on ebay and bought a screen to do this and i ended up getting 2 :D, so im gonna download this on my psp and do it at lunch at school tomorrow. bragging is fun
i opended my ipod with a knife.. it opened fine but doesnt go back together completely. not too bad damage. but if the side clip... (that little metal peice on the headphone jack) completely nessecary? i installed my new lcd and couldnt get that back on.. ipod works fine but will it cuase problems later on?
can u plez do a movie how to replace a ipod nano 2nd generation click wheel? or is it the same as the 1st generation click wheel repair movie? please answer soon!
This video forgot to mention to replace the six screws before snapping the covers back together. I'm sure most would figure this out, but it would sure be frustrating to find out afterward!
By any chance would you guys happen to know where to buy a new ipod nano 3G lcd screen. Min is brocken from the inside not the outside so the solor leaked or something like that. also where could i get the opening tool you used.
Both the Classic and the Nano 3rd gen are very difficult to open compared to older models. I don't think Apple wants you to be able to repair them. The battery can be replaced, however it is a difficult soldering job. We sell the replacement batteries and offer installation for just $20.
It is difficult, but not impossible. We recommend having our techs do any installation on the Nano 3G iPods. We only charge $25, so it is well worth the money.
Well, but I think that the problem has turned more seriously.
The wheel does not also work, since if I connect the iPod, at least it should sound, and does not do anything. The cable of the screen has got damaged on it having tried to connect without success ... and thinking that I'm from Spain, I should know what would suppose the sending and return, a new LCD screen and the time that would take all this.
nvm finally got it open. By all means ditch that green tool kit and use them flat head screw driver, the littles ones. Losen from the bottom of teh ipod first
A thick guitar pick or watch opening tool works well. The Nano 3rd gens are harder to open than other models. Be careful not to put too much pressure in any one place, you can damage the main board.
my new lcd screen arrived,lol...it took me a while to replace the screen, but what took me ages was trying to get the ipod open, everything wenk ok, but i cant put the case on fully, but its all good:D:D
My mom washed my lil' brother's nano 3rd so she bought him a new one. I took it and bought a new lcd and it works. I also ripped some of the ribbon so i have to mess with the connection every now and then.freakeystyley34, Where did you get that headphone jack I can't find it anywhere. And how did you replace it. Or did you mean you ended up buying a new Ipod ?
hah i bought an ipod nano 4 gig 3rd gen for 10 bucks off this guy the only problem with it is he cracked the screen so the whole screen is messed up because of the little crack but the guy said u couldnt repair it so i mgunna order and lcd screen off ebay and use this to fix it lol so i hope to god that it works so if anybody on here has tryed it and it worked of failed plz tell me lol i wont get my screen in for like another 3 dayz

The rest of the LCD screen works fine, minus the light
halodaler 1 year ago
You will need new LCD screen to solve that problem. =]
vadimpatsan 1 year ago
@halodaler
you should be able to set that in the brightness from the settings tab.
if you get no display, then its either in hold mode, or its set to very dim, OR the lcd still needs to be replaced.
batty505 1 year ago
I don't recommend trying this. The screws/connector ribbons are easy to deal with, but getting the back off properly, especially with that spasticated piece of plastic tool thing, is next to impossible. You end up using a stronger tool, which frigs the shape of the iPod meaning it'll never snap back together properly and be full of crap in about two days.
I'm a big believer in taking things apart and fixing them yourself, but on this occasion I would bite the bullet and pay an expert to do it.
ClaphamSlag 2 years ago
Most iPods are easy to open, however the Nano 3G isn't one of them.
It is well worth the $25 to have our technicians repair the iPod for you.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
@ClaphamSlag its acutualy is easy just gotta knoe the trip ill tell u one ...u get ur self a flat head exacto knife that will do the trick practice makes perfect im not saying first time is gonna be great but after awhile u will get the hang of it
MasterTechRepair 1 year ago
Actually, I don't recommend replacing the back plate. One you take the back plate off, it won't go back on as tight as it was. This is a good thing because if you ever have to replace the LCD again, it will be much easier to open the iPod. The back plate won't go back on tight on my iPod, so all I did was go to Target, buy a rubber sleeve protector for the iPod, and slipped the iPod into that. The iPod fits pretty snug into it, so you don't notice the loose back plate.
Zapadac 2 years ago
Zapadac 2 years ago
My ipod nano 3g was left out in the rain the other day and you can see the menu etc but the backlight has stopped working.
Would the lcd screen replacement fix the backlight so it turns off and on.
btw i have already tried going to settings and turning on the backlight.
SCHIZOPHRENICxRSxLOL 2 years ago
It is possible that you may just need a new LCD, however in some cases, the backlight is shorted out from the mainboard's LCD connector. The only way to tell is to try a new LCD.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
I am not able to put back metal plate all the way, is there sum sort of trick, do i need to bend clips back a certain way? or should i just get a new one?
gixxer450 2 years ago
Those can be tricky. It depends on how much the clips bend when you take the back off. It is usually better to just replace the back plate. We sell them for $14.99.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
And it just clicks back on the new one? no trouble or nothing?
gixxer450 2 years ago
It takes 1-2 days to repair, and depending on the shipping you choose, you can have it back in 2-3 days.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
Sure. We sell them separately and also have a 6 piece iPod tool kit.

juanramos1234 2 years ago
Sorry to say it, but that is what you get with EBAY parts. Most of them are defective, and there is no return policy. A defective part can actually cause more damage to your iPod.
To answer your question, when a Nano 3G beeps, that usually means that there is an error on the main board.
Send it to us and we will find out what the problem is.

I replaced my LCD screen on my ipod nano because the backlight was not working. Now the backlight works, but its just a blank white page, nothing else will apear. Do you know how I can fix this?
TheDude9024 2 years ago
It sounds as if you do not have the ribbon cable fully inserted. Remove the LCD ribbon cable and slide it back in keeping pressure on it as you lock the tab.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
Alright, I just tried that twice and it's still doing the same thing. It's a brand new screen that I purchased from your website, so the screen should work. It must be something that I'm doing wrong. Can I send it to you to work on? And if so, how much would that cost?
TheDude9024 2 years ago
Installation is $25, Insured return shipping is $6.75 for a total of $31.75. Please include a note explaining the problem.
Thanks!

You will need to replace the LCD screen, that will fix the backplight problem. The LCD is $29.99, you can find it on our website.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
Hey man, i've been trying to open this too, i got an issue on the Headphone Jack, i already have the replacement if i had to change it, but my biggest problem is opening the nano. Which tool did you use to open it? Can you point the thickness of the blade of that tool too? It will be reeeeeeally helpfull.
AkilesJose 2 years ago
Our techs use a basic opening tool, however they know exactly where the clips are. You can also use a watch back opening tool, which is much stronger. Be aware that once you open this iPod, the back may not go back on again nicely. You may have to replace the back plate.
DigiExpress 2 years ago
i've done everything but I was wondering if the ipod will work without the metal backplate. I dont want to put it back on only to find out i have to open it back up.

I got the ipod to open...but am having a lot of problems closing it back...it's not easy as it is show in the video...i still havne't gotten it to "snack" back together
vashantir 2 years ago
There are metal clips around the perimeter of the back plate. Make sure that there is only a small gap between the clips and the side of the back plate. If there is too large of a space, the faceplate won't snap in. If you can't get it to work, we sell replacement back plates for $14.99.

where does the tool come from? it wasnt "provided" with my ipod.
metalkills55 3 years ago
Most of the time when you buy a replacement screen for any small electronic part, it comes with a small plastic case opening tool for free. Or you can just buy it online somewhere (ebay) for a couple cents.
mdb0790 3 years ago
oh ok. i didnt know that. where can i buy a replacement screen? i didnt have the tool so i used a set of extremely small flatheads. it worked but idk if ill be able to put it back together without damaging it further.
metalkills55 3 years ago
Well, I got the back off mine, but when I changed the screen the little clip that holds down the ribbon cable broke off! So now I have a nice new screen but no way to connect it to the Ipod...... Where can you get those little clips anyone?
brittleware 3 years ago
Apple made the 3rd generation ipod very difficult to open and very easy to damage if you don't know exactly what you're doing. What a bunch of fuckers. I destroyed mine trying to get the back plate off and now I have to get another player. Then again if making money is their main objective, maybe they're not so dumb after all!
mixlmax 3 years ago

chasingDUCKS 3 years ago
This iPod is difficult to open, try a metal tool. We use a watch opening tool, but be careful not to damage the faceplate or the mainboard.

By any chance would you guys happen to know where to buy a new ipod nano 3G lcd screen. Min is brocken from the inside not the outside so the solor leaked or something like that. also where could i get the opening tool you used.
noahheath12 3 years ago
why would Apple make a case that is hard to open and a battery that isn't replaceable? :\
6stringplaya77 3 years ago
Both the Classic and the Nano 3rd gen are very difficult to open compared to older models. I don't think Apple wants you to be able to repair them. The battery can be replaced, however it is a difficult soldering job. We sell the replacement batteries and offer installation for just $20.
DigiExpress 3 years ago
It is difficult, but not impossible. We recommend having our techs do any installation on the Nano 3G iPods. We only charge $25, so it is well worth the money.
DigiExpress 3 years ago
Well, but I think that the problem has turned more seriously.
The wheel does not also work, since if I connect the iPod, at least it should sound, and does not do anything. The cable of the screen has got damaged on it having tried to connect without success ... and thinking that I'm from Spain, I should know what would suppose the sending and return, a new LCD screen and the time that would take all this.
Thank you,
Roger

It isn't quite as easy as it looks on the video, you need to be really careful.
The back is really difficult to get off, even with the plastic lever things. DONT use a knife, you'll just bend the back.
