alright i really dont know alot about tornado sirens,im more into firefighting.but what are the whelen sirens called that look like this but only have 3 lines on the back?(if that makes any sence)
@EngulfedSix As for rotational type of Whelens, they only have 4 horns that connects together into a big rectangular horn. Those would be called WPS-4000 series or Vortexes. If you have pictures of the siren your wondering about, you can send them to me and I can help you identify it.
@PNSB101 As far as we know, the world's loudest siren that was ever built is the Chrysler 180 HP V8 Hemi siren which produces 138dB at 100 feet. They were only made from 1952 to 1957. Now the world's loudest siren currently made is the Tempest 135.
Do they still make this siren if yes where do you get 1 it would be a neat new years eve noise maker and to shut my annoying neighbor up when he blasts his stereo
The sad is they quit making 3016s in 1990. If you want a Dual Tone 3016 your gonna have to call West Shore Services and explain to them what you desire from them.
Wow.... I hated Whelens to DEATH until I stumbled on this video. Why don't all their sirens have dual tone sound cards? The single tone ones that you normally hear sound like ass.
2001s should be LOUDER than the whelens. Seeing as they must be 2001-130s. But yeah, Dearborn's EMA must be stupid to have them decommisioned before replacements are installed. Fort Worth, Texas did it right and kept their tbolts in service until the whelens were up, running and fully comissioned.
Having thought about it, why do these fail? i wouldn't think all 16 drivers would just suddenly blow, unless it got hit by lightning, but maybe it's the control panels that were failing? It's a shame they break so easily because they are great sirens and especially the dual-tone. Shame you didn't manage to get the control panels for your 3016..
I can't really tell if this siren really did fail or if the EMA director just decommissioned a lot of them due to the fact that the new siren update was in progress.
Must have just been decomissioned, especially if they 'all started to fail near replacement time' must mean they got decommisioned early. Bad mistake if something like a tornado came through
I'm a young sirenphile, so I have no idea why there's so much hate against Whelens. Can anyone explain this to me? Personally, I prefer electromechanical sirens, but this has a pretty nice tone.
Whelen should bring back the dual tone for their WPS and Vortex sirens, only set the tones to match a T-bolt set on tap 5 or maybe 4. This one is like a T-bolt set on tap 6 or maybe 7 (depending on input voltage, etc.)
I love these and the good ol thunderbolts, its when they die down that really chills me everywhere you go in my town theres sirens we must have some 2001's cause they talked and when i heard them i almost crapped my pants cause sirens dont talk!!!
That's a shame!!! The one near me here in GA is a Whelen 2910 - not as cool sounding as this one. As a matter of fact, one of my neighbors actually posted a video with our siren malfunctioning one morning (he didn't even know that it was a siren!!!!!) It's under "UFO, weird unidentified sound, Marietta, GA" in YOUTUBE - check it out!!!
Well since the Michigan's economy is like hell, 2001-130s are the cheapest siren they can think of. Its also proving to us siren lovers that we are in a very depressing life! :(
Dear god I hope they don't go to ATI sirens our whelens where i live suck so much they don't even work most of the time and when they do, you can barely hear them.
who knew that a Whelen could sound like an EOWS in attack

Dual tone Whelens are, by far, the best sounding electronic siren out there. I'd rather have these than 2001s even.
cauberallies 2 years ago
What's the siren going off in the background and where is it. Sounds like a 2001 to me.
