Their also building their 5th generation Pak-FA...and they also got their supersonic TU-160 bomber. and in helicopters they got the KA-52 and the Mi-28, two very modern hunters, their far from old

Hellenic Air-force does it yet again. They have just won all the combat exercise in the latest NATO military exercises held in Spain last week April, 2011.This is on top of the other big win which was RED FLAG 2008 where they destroyed US Air-force, so called best air-force and its top-guns in a kill ratio of 18:3. It was USAF first loss and never had it been so bad. Further more the best NATO Pilot voted by NATO peers for the third time was Charalambos Eskioglou.
US,UK,Russia,China are in most cases self sufficient countries who are capable of producing their own military weaponry without borrowing weapons from other countries.
other countries like france,sweden,germany,japan & India are on the process of being self sufficient in military technology. For a country to be powerful it must learn to be self reproductive. It should be the giver not the reciever. The giver is always powerful.
As long as the UK doesnt buy military jets and ships from the US they will look superior. I always see a country as superior when that country is able to build its own fighter Jets, war ships, submarines. Self sufficiency is power.

A 40 year old Vulcan that theres only one left of working. What strategic nuclear deterrent do we have today? The americans have over 1,500 F-16's alone, thats almost more than the amount of aircraft we have in total. The USAF have the F-22 raptor, that we could barely afford
our nuclear deterrent isnt provided by long range bombers anymore. although nukes can be carried by tornado GR4's they would primarily be launched from nuclear subs and from silos. the USAF is much larger than the RAF but in terms of training the RAF is second to none. and we have some quality aircraft, the typhoon and sentinal R1 are both world class aircraft. we'll also be getting the F35 soon along with the USA.
haha its not about the plane its about the Pilot ;) if US has so many Jets, they need so many Pilots, so they would not have enough time to train them unlike RAF we have highly trained Pilots and the Euro Fighter !

To be honest, I don't think the real threat can be fought using aircraft etc. If a country wants to win a war against us, all they have to do is to use guerilla tactics. Look at how hard it has been for troops in afghan! Look at vietnam, look at Japan in WW2!

That soldier at he end of this video marshalling the aircraft, what would the name of his job role be? as that it what I would really like to do in the RAF (marhsalling aircraft), I'm very keen on joining.
Overall a good video, but one or two comments. Why insert the Javelin and Lightning? These aircraft have been out of service for 30 years, i would have put some low flying helicopters, or even some of the transport fleet in here (the RAF isn't all fast jet you know) If you wanted to just keep it fast jet put in the Hawk and even the Jaguar (though that is out of service now). Still one of the better RAF vids out there, and that from a serving member ;-)

our nuclear deterrent isnt provided by long range bombers anymore. although nukes can be carried by tornado GR4's they would primarily be launched from nuclear subs and from silos. the USAF is much larger than the RAF but in terms of training the RAF is second to none. and we have some quality aircraft, the typhoon and sentinal R1 are both world class aircraft. we'll also be getting the F35 soon along with the USA.

haha its not about the plane its about the Pilot ;) if US has so many Jets, they need so many Pilots, so they would not have enough time to train them unlike RAF we have highly trained Pilots and the Euro Fighter !

If the USA was an enemy, don't doubt Britains military would be tenfold larger then what it is - we were the muscle for the best part of 200 years, it's americas turn. With great triumphs, comes great loss, no matter how bigger, or smaller, we all tend to come out pretty equal in the end as peoples in the both mentioned nations. Toast to an invincible friendship I say.

The Vulcan has nothing to do with the RAF anymore.
The reason why the UK does not have the fleet strength it once had is due to the US. We won't go to war with them, so we work with them.
Nuclear deterrents are no way needed like they were. Who is there really to deter? Russia isn't a problem. Nth Korea? Hardly.
I do realise that we do need to do more on our own, but things are fine as they are.

To be honest, I don't think the real threat can be fought using aircraft etc. If a country wants to win a war against us, all they have to do is to use guerilla tactics. Look at how hard it has been for troops in afghan! Look at vietnam, look at Japan in WW2!

So what? The US is a bigger country which means it needs a bigger military and also has a bigger population to make up that military and make up an economy big enough to support it. Man for man British military training means a British soldier/pilot/sailor would be better than an American soldier/pilot/sailor but the sheer size difference means the American's could indeed beat the British. Also what the hell are the javelin and the lightning doing here? They were in service in the 70s.

well then my friend you should look at the Euro Fighter Typhoon, the replacement for the tornado, its so aero dynamically unstable its the the most agile and comfortable Fighting jet out there, dnt ask me how, it jus is.

yea, may be unstable and manouvrable but the F.3 is a long distance weapon platform, so where the EFA has to get up close, the F.3 can zap it from a huge distance. AND its still super manouvrable! tornado for life i say (Y)
But the EFA is freakin loud!! haha :L

Overall a good video, but one or two comments. Why insert the Javelin and Lightning? These aircraft have been out of service for 30 years, i would have put some low flying helicopters, or even some of the transport fleet in here (the RAF isn't all fast jet you know) If you wanted to just keep it fast jet put in the Hawk and even the Jaguar (though that is out of service now). Still one of the better RAF vids out there, and that from a serving member ;-)
