@craigthomasjohnson Hungarian is one of the world's hardest languages (even harder than Mandarin). I learned Mandarin in five years (at least to be able to pretty much talk to anyone). I tried Hungarian for a year and gave up while I was still on my...I believe my 203rd word. *sigh* so many word endings...
I lost the language-fight after... German. Only Indy really needs to do something about his German accent. Spretche, really? Too bad they didn't speak Dutch tho. Wie is de slimme taalnerd die kan ontcijferen wat hier staat?
En noow nog eemus dae witj welluk dialect ich heej schrieef. Det waertj meulik!
I speak only English, but I adore multi-lingual academics. That was seriously the most romantic and fantastic scene I've ever witnessed. Indiana/Viki forever. Screw that bimbo he spawned with. This is true love.
I was lost during the Hungarian, Swedish, and Greek!! Although, the Swedish sounds oddly recognizable through German.
I remember Indiana confessing in one of the episodes that he speaks 27 languages but I think one of them was sign language... He supposedly also speaks Mandarin, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Vietnamese... In another episdoe he meets young Ho Chi Min in Paris where he displays his knowledge of Vietnamese.
I love the language duel! I remember watching this show about 10 years ago and this scene stuck in my head.
I first mentioned it when talking about the Star Wars TV show and defended Young Indiana Jones by talking about this scene. Then I mentioned it again when talking about how Welsh was a dead language so I has to look it up. I'm amazed that "young indiana jones language" got me the moment I was looking for and everybody else has strong memories of it.
I love this segment where they are speaking the different languages. I remember watching it as a kid and remembering it fondly. It still looks good today. I can't believe that is a young Elizabeth Hurley
I love this scene, the langauge duel is too cool. Unfortunately their pronunciation in arabic is so bad that it is incomprehensible for the most part .
Oh gosh, the language duel made my day the first time I saw it, I was like 12 or something and hearing Indiana Jones speak Swedish.. few things could top that, it is still impressing though =)
He fought against Germans as well. In World War I. The Nazi party wasn't around yet, though it seems much of his adult life was spent being chased or running into them one way or another.
This is one of the reasons i love indy, he stands up for what's right! and he's not like any of those other pig-headed bastardes. altough he is a little nieve... or maybe alot. YOU GO GIRLS!
OH MY GOD!!! what a coincedence!!! i was just watching a part of the albert finney version of "murder on the orient express" when i decided to look up young indy as well, and i land right here! i recognize the EXACT same moment of film (0:31) here, and again 0:42 where you see a FRENCH SNCF locomotive frame, that you can also see in part 3 of the full movie here on youtube!! damn, what an erie coincedence!!! oO
You´ll have to work on Jag har rest mycket (I have traveled a great deal)Sean Patrick, but the rest were really good. Liz pronounced it good aswell and the dialekt was better, but ofcourse she only spoke two words./ well done.
Sean Patrick could pronounce the Hungarian sound: gy in 'dehoGYnem '! RESPECT !!! Perfect!!! Lizzie couldn't in 'de maGYarul nem beszél?'The Hungarian gy sound is not like j in jungle but 'd' in due, endurance or duke...
I am a masochistic language-nerd, and for me, this is the most beautiful and the most romantic scene I have ever seen. FUck TITANIC and those boring couples...

Well Flannery has got the Phoenix hair from the last crusade and the same voice tones so I think they casted the right guy for this part.

Fuck off with Indiana Jones. In every single movie he fights against Germans. Pathetic! Spilberg is a Jew, of course!

Wrong. Indiana Jones fights against NAZIS, not against Germans.
