Guess the only way you could get it to stand would be to do what I did with the Heller P-39 in the same circumstance...glue it to a display base. I enjoyed your ending though, modeling goes "boink"! Karl :-)
@MilitaryAircraft101 Probably because it is a well known plane, and well researched.. or because they're lazy!! It's a well known but annoying fact that many model kit makers favour the same decal schemes on their models, which is a shame..
Proportions on the Hobby Boss kit are kind of hosed anyway. Part of the reason is I think they based it on the Revell P-39 from the 1970s and that had NOTORIOUS shape issues. The canopy is the worst offender.
@JMChladek Don't know if it's the Revell kit or the Airfix kit, but either way, yes I agree.. :) The Academy kit is probably one of the best in 1/72, but even that has issues.. :)
@BasicModelling Speaking of which, do you have plans to pick up the new Airfix Cobra in 1/72? I am curious to see if it is the Heller kit reboxed, some other kit or perhaps (is it too much to hope for?) a new tool. :)
@Aerolseventh You will have to try and put a lot of small weights in the nose wheel well, if you can.. other than that all you can do is try and glue a small stck of plastic, preferably from a clear sprue, underneath the plane, just behind the main landing gear.. that should stop it tipping backwards.. :)
@rodrigo32125 The fuselage is more or less solid.. anyway, I no longer have the kit, it was binned.. :P I'm not likely to buy and build another one, as I have done so many of the Academy version.. :)
@Ezza190 I was quite tempted to buy the Airfix kit when they re-issued it recently.. but as I have one more Academy 1/72 P-39 to build, I won't buy any more kits of the P-39, Aas that will be my last P-39 build in that scale.. I also have a Hasegawa P-39 in 1/48 scale, which is started, but far from finished! :)
@BasicModelling yeah i take your point about that, the academy kit is the best one i think.... i have over 5 Hellcats, all from the major manufacturers (plus the kits were ones that were given to me from freinds who couldnt be asked)
@BasicModelling I agree with you there, the brill thing is there are better versions (Academy, Airfix, Hasegawa, Tamiya...and the chain goes on, its always the same, every kit you build, theres always something better in another kit but the same type if you know what im talking about
@Ezza190 Well, these days the kit manufacturers often buy or hire the right to use each others toolings.. a prime example is the Revell 1/72 Saab Draken, which is the Hasegawa kit.. and the same goes for the E.E. Lightning in 1/72.. The Revell SuperCobra Helicopter is the Italeri kit, and ANY Saab JAS 39 Gripen you buy, be it Revell, Airfix or Italeri.. it's the SAME kit! So you need to do some research into what you are buying these days.. :)
@Ezza190 Well, they all were, once.. but I guess they discovered that it was cheaper to let somebody else do all the research and production work, and then if the tooling was good just hire them.. or again do what Revell did with the Matchbox range, and buy them outright! They keep reboxing and releasing old Matchbox kits regularly..
Well, I can t say nothing about , becouse I am in my first plane. Is a p-40 warhawk (hobbyboss) and is +or- this!! man i am braziliam and i like your videos congratulations!
@rodrigo32125 The HobbyBoss P-40 is an ok kit.. not brilliant, but when finished at least it looks like a P-40.. :) So you should be ok with that kit.. :) I built a nice model from it, but haven't got a video of that build..
I just finished painting and building my Hobby Boss P-39; mine is also a tailsitter. :( I didn't want all my hard work to go to waste, so I superglued it to a small plastic platform, works like a charm :)
oh you swedes...never save anything for the future and then you expect norwegians and danes to bail you out...so how much do you require this time lol :)
that is precisely where the model bits went but don't lose hope, just scratch around thru the manure and you shall be rewarded for your labours lol :)

Tuberglue 3 years ago
Wow, you summed it up pretty well. Funny to think they didn't consider tail-sitting, but hobbyboss kits are heavier and thicker plastic.
The simple one-piece detail is no match for academy's optional gun pods etc.
SmiertSpionem 3 years ago
I summed it up rather exactly, I'd say.. Lack of cock-pit detail, (which doesn't normally bother me), the canopy just doesn't look right, and the lines are VERY faint, making it hard to paint.. The main airacrobra feature, i.e the 'car door' is almost invisible.. and finally the tailsitting, even though I filled it with more led than had I shot it with a shotgun!! I had a similar problem with the HobbyBoss Heinkel Salamander, but at least there I DID manage to get it in balance! :P
Tuberglue 3 years ago
The KurtGnu fellow is building better models...^^ , but you did a nice conversion to the yet unknown tailwheel version!
