  • Fantastic

  • My father has carried the same classic red Spartan every day for my entire life (I'm almost 30), I've been carrying one of my own for the last several years, and you can bet that I'll be passing one on to my children when the time comes. Truly built to last a lifetime, and you'd be surprised how many times you end up using that little corkscrew...it's saved quite a few parties for me!

  • I got a spartan knife at Target with a leather Victorinox keychain for $9.97!

  • Ok... for some reason I never saw this vid come out! This is actually really interesting to watch!

Thanks for posting this 9 months ago! lmao what a DUH I am at times...lol

  • is there something like a spartan with alox handles if so thumbs up for

  • Remember the Spartan.

  • I hope to see some new SAK reviews from Nutnfancy. They were great.

  • At a camp that I go to (camp yawgoog) we have two fire buckets for every aderondec and one night my friends victorinox fell into the bucket and was there over night. When he found it in the morning he wiped it all down and let it dry out and even months after there is no sign of any rust

  • You do need a real review of one of these! I just bought a blue one and its beautiful and has most any tool ill ever need in one... its just a bit big i feel... keep it up

  • another excellent review.

  • @pittwm I wouldn't call that a review...

  • Love how they make these things! I got a huntsman that saved my life after 3 days being lost

  • Nutnfancy project rocks! Miss the old Swiss army knife, so due to this Vid, I am getting another. If the knife is good by you, it is good to go.... Trust!

  • I've acually had the plastic handles come off of TWO Swiss Army Knives! :PPP

They did they're job damn well before they broke though.

  • More power use your muscles!are you the terminator?I am planning on getting a cadet or Spartan for my camping/fishing trip this summer

  • hey nutnfancy which victorinox has the best set of tools for you? i have the swisstool and the Cadet but i want another one.

  • so does swiss gear own victorinox or are you guys separate. and also wenger and sig and swiss arms has a swiss flag so are all you guys own company

  • Can't stop watching those Victorinox videos.... Maybe because I'm anxious about my newest acquisitions coming in the mail: the workchamp and the swisschamp

  • Do you happen to know which model wristwatch Joe was wearing? I looked on the website and can't find it. It looks pretty spiffy.

  • nutnfancy is the only person who could make me watch a 30 min video. Also the way nutn presents a knife makes me want to get it, and i eventually do.

  • I'd upgrade to the Camper to have the wood saw on there, too.

  • i,m in love with BECKY, love the knife too

  • very cool...I wish we could see how all knives are made. That would be a cool series. Magazines, guns, knives, multi-tools, gear.

  • seriously functional art

  • i hope to get a spartan, i got the tinker lately and its quite similar

  • Ive got the spartan. I love them little swiss army knifes. there the best multi tool youll ever have. well the best ive ever had.

  • loving it

  • I love how genuinely happy nutn gets at the end! "I can have this for my very own!?". You can just tell that his face totally lit up at that point lol.

  • At the flagship Victorinox store in Geneva (Switzerland) you can use one of these machines to make your own knife. It was a great birthday present!

  • Hahaha "It's not like anyone's going to watch this video."

Too funny. This is one of my favorite Knife vids from NutnFancy

  • This has GOT to be close to, if not, the top of your more interesting videos!

    AWESOME! TNX for posting this!

  • father first gave it to me, if you can kill this tool, I'd like to know what you did to it, I've oiled it maybe twice in it's life time, and that's just because I felt like it, the tool didn't need it. This is probably the most reliable thing I own and I've got an sks. The Swiss know how to make things solid.

  • i absolutely swear by my Victorinox Swisstool, I've had it over 10 years and it has never failed me once. If they're still making them of the same material (which i'm pretty sure they are) I'd highly recommend getting one because you can't kill them like you can a Gerber or a Leatherman (I know i have). I've abused the shit out of my Swisstool and you can tell by the chipped red paint, but it's still held true and never rusted a single bit, it's as solid today as it was when my

  • Cool stuff! How about making the watch vibrate or maybe just shock the piss out of you when you make a hit. Nix the last thought, just kidding! Great music!

  • When you said that it would be a great gift for anyone even girls I had to get a Spartan for my girlfriend.I hope she will like it.

Now I like the knife and I need another one for myself.

  • Hey Nutn (or Veri), do you have any experience with the Gerber LMF II? What's your take on it? Thanks...

  • man this was the first pocket knife I ever had! I loved it so much but one day it went missing...now I keep all my knives on 550 paracord lanyards.

  • @BadIdeas101 now all u need is some ducktape, and u have the holy trinity of usefullness right there :P

  • haha i love my spartan first knife i ever got

  • The "Tinker" model is something I think Nutin would like even more then the Spartan its basically the same thing, but the cork screw is replaced by a philips head screw driver, I've used it a lot, is the Swiss army knife i always have with me. Other then the name or if you a person who drinks a good deal of wine, I'd recommend the Tinker over the Spartan. (in my opinion)

  • @GuitarFan29 Phillips head is more useful than the corkscrew.

  • Seven minutes in I heard a woman say "Can I buy just a toothpick?" Made my day :)

  • they ran out of chocolates kuz nutn ate em all.

  • This video made me just buy a black Victorinox Climber. I had a Swiss Army Knife as a kid but in the last 15 years or so it got displaced by Leatherman Tools. Nothing wrong with using both.

  • My first Swiss Army Knife was a Spartan model.

  • The first time I ever cut myself (carving soap stone) I was nine, and i used a Victorinox. It was so sharp I did'nt even feel it. Ahh, sweet memories.

  • Damn, that's the coolest thing I seem in a long time.

I have a spartan in my pocket this very moment, always

    wondered how they were made.

    Sweet vid!!

  • Very cool!

  • Now the chinese people can copy that ;)

  • haha the toothpick always cracks me up cause he uses his all the time

  • Very interesting how it is put together. I would have never guessed the handles are pressure fit. Cool vid!

  • Just bought the S.A. Camper based on the good things I've heard from TNP. Thanks!

  • i have a spartan, its my favorite edc blade, victorinox rocks!!!

  • how freaking COOL is Fatherman?

  • nice i'll have to get my wife one

  • I see a very suitable price for a contest!

  • This is fascinating.

  • I have a small one on my key chain... love it... thow I would ask them to rethink the pressure fit b/c the side paneling keeps coming off. I snapped it back on but it keeps coming off so I'm going to glue it...

    Over all great knives

  • that was actually pretty amazing, i've owned dozens of these and never knew they were pressure fit handles. as PFI said i've had sections of the handles break off but never had the handle pop off

  • Ive been looking at these knifes trying to figure out which one to get.

  • Noone gunna watch this lol 16210 views right now

  • awesome vid, always wondered how these things were made.

  • So awesome, thank you very much nutn and thanks to Victorinox, too!

Can't wait for a giveaway! ;-) I love those knives, have a Cadet in my edc and a Spartan in my bag all the time. Love it.

  • Very cool

  • what can i say? AWESOME!

  • You can most definitely take Victorinox knife scales off. CutleryLover has a great video on it. The guy meant you just can't literally take them off with JUST your hands.

  • oh... i thought it was a halo video

  • Madness? This--is--SPARTAN!!

  • Man now i want a spartan. ok bank account get ready for the post shot show purchases.

  • i would love to work for them

  • Yo Nutn! Its absolutely off topic but if you havent seen "Simon's Cat" -you just have to=D About 20 000 000 vievers per 1 vid speaks for itself;) You too Veri;) Have fun while watching!

  • What? I've used my tooth pick ! :) Love these knives.

  • What a great vid......... have had Swiss army Knives for ever...

really interesting to see them being made

  • I still like Wenger better. I find the models with more of what I use and less/none of what I don't as opposed to Victorinox. I guess it's all the same company anyway, now. So It's a win across the board. Most used feature? Toothpick! Great for picking those narly grasshopper legs out of your teeth!

  • I always carry my cheap swiss army knife. Not so much for the blade but for the bottle opener, scissor and screwdriver. Always good to have one when you don't have anything better available.

Wouldn't mind getting one of these, though. But my knife, despite being a cheap no-brand item, has been serving me fine after 5 years of service so I guess I'll be alright.

  • I bought black Spartan week ago. Now I can't imagine my everyday life witout this men's friend tool!

  • Great review Nutn!

  • This is awesome seeing the internals come together :D

Who are the 9 idiots who don't think this vid is awesome!!!

  • as a designer it is really great to see one of these being made. these knives are true design classics, universally speaking, not just in the world of knife design.

  • allways got a Victorinox spartan in my pocket, exellent tool. but i didnt know that the handles was pressure fitted, thanks for showing this Nutn!

  • Beeeee-YOU-ti-ful!

  • Hmmm, just like making a sandwich in the kitchine.

  • nutn check out the victorinox compact you will love it...

  • IMO "Birth of a Spartan" would've been a better title...sneak in an obscure reference to the Halo series.

  • Joe's voice sounds like Ray Romano

  • @MrAtrain556 We're supposed to be doing something along those lines pretty soon. =) -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy hey is nutnfancy aware of the 'compact' model?

i mention it because it is a model that attempts to put all the functionality of a climber minus the reamer model into a 2 layer knife.

so its both smaller and lighter.

  • wow i never knew how they made swiss army knives

hey nutnfancy u were talking about how rust resistant their steel is do u know what steel they use cause no one says the steeltype

  • @MrJazzydee nobody knows, it's a secret.

  • @sgtscream1291 it explains alot

  • @mthrfckr9 What an idiotic comment. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • Ugh I gota have one when I was a kid I bought a knock off Swiss army knife... I think it's time for the real deal! Bout to look at there sight thanks nutnfancy keep up the good work. Tnp

  • A hand-made Victorinox Spartan... how cool is that?! Treasure it, Nutn. Or give it to me, either way. ;)

  • Personally, I think the toothpick is unsanitary. A screwdriver or something would be much more useful.

  • @nickoloes Me too! Its yucky. -- Veri

  • I'm usung it to clear my nails, so it's usefull for me))

  • @nickoloes I don't think I'd use it much as a toothpick, it would possibly be useful for removing wood splinters? If I get the Trailmaster I'm thinking about I guess I'll find out, it has the toothpickpick and tweezers and a one hand opening locking blade. If? Who am I kidding? WHEN I get it LOL.

  • @nickoloes i think the toothpick is there for doing all those other things u do with toothpics besides picking your teeth :P

  • @Whisper6911 In fact it's a mentality thing. Like americans who are obsessed by their haircut, we swiss are obsessed by our mouth hygiene and because most/every swiss has at least one swiss knife (I have 5 or 6) you're sure you always have a toothpick with U. ^^

  • @nickoloes lol nickoloes, man with teeth of steel!

  • @Whisper6911 Haha. That gave me a good laugh. Thanks mate.

  • @nickoloes It doesn't bother me, but then I'm kinda "outdoorsy" that way.

  • @nickoloes You are right. It is also very unhealthy. Using the toothpick for it's "original" purpose dosen't seem like a good idea ... although it proved excellent for cleaning the knife itself and other MT's and folding knives.

  • A knife with a story is always the best kind of knife! Too bad it wasn't labeled "limited edition" or "handmade" thats the only way it could get any better.

  • I think I lost every tooth pick I ever had on my swiss army knives!

  • I don't know why Victorinix wouldn't release a video like this themselves, it's really interesting. Sometimes it takes an independent observer to find these neat little things.

  • It would be very interesting to tour the manufacturing plant and to see the equipment and assembly lines.

  • Sooo... you got a "Made in USA" Victorinox now Nut?? SWEET!!! GIVE ME IT!!

  • Nutn, im saving up for a .22 plinker for me should i get the Ruger 10/22, or the Marlin 795ss? Pros and cons for both please

  • Nutn would say get the ruger.

  • @HITMANMONSTER He already did a video on that. Use "Nutnfancy 10/22" as search terms.

  • 90% of these guys commenting have no idea what their talking about. "i just watched 10 nuntfancy videos in a row so im going to repeat what he said then ill sound smart "

  • they´re so freaking expensive in brasil....

  • kind of a boring knife imo

  • One of the scales on my 1985 Huntsman fell off about 15 years ago. I stuck it back on with silicone glue. It has no slots for tweezers or toothpick.

    My wife has several too.

  • One of the scales on my 1985 Huntsman fell off about 15 years ago. I stuck it back on with silicone glue. It has no slots for tweezers or toothpick.

    My wife has several too.

  • Target huh? Kmart and Dick's have Wenger. They're fine and all, but I just prefer Victorinox.

  • I prefer the Tinker since it has a Philips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew.

I've never seen any rust on any of my Swiss Army knives. One of them is from 1985.

  • @Deep13Deep13Deep13 I found one in the mountains in the mid 90's. I'm guessing it had been out there around 4 months in the snow (under a ski lift so I figure it was lost during the height of ski season. Found it in the spring when there was still a lot of snow). To look at it now you would never know. Been great and has held up over the years even with the exposure.

  • joe is the man? thumbs up? eh

  • A Victorinox Tinker was my first knife with a Boy Scout logo from when I was a Boy Scout. Now I stepped it up became a Marine and I still carry the Farmer alox model everyday.

  • Dude I live in Switzerland ,I've been here for 7 years and if you want Lyndor truffles man i'll be more than happy to send you a bag just as a thank you for all you do for us. You are the most complete reviewer I have ever seen.I thank you for sharing all of your experience and knowledge you have learned over the years and giving it 110% . Simply said Awesome !

  • @notnimify

And if he turns you down, send them to me, okay?

  • also... do not promote the Mormon(sp?) boy scouts....who will not let athiests, gays, or non Christians into the boy scouts....

  • TINKER

  • the swiss run out of good chocolate?!?!? NOOOOO

  • first knife i ever got i was 3 and that was ten years ago and its still ok

  • On that Mosin video you are doing, please show details of your scope mount and the please tell us why you didn't mount a 1-4 power scope with long relief.

    Thanks

  • I wonder how they marketed this..it would have been extremely successful if they gave out free raffle tickets and once they gave out 50 or whatever have everyone watch it being made with a camera fixed on his hands so everyone can see, and then give it away at the end. If they could do the same thing with a gun or knife it'd be real popular. Especially if they did it like every hour..and it'd be quite low cost after they pay for that machine, just parts..

  • Great video!!!

  • lol baggy trowsers would make a good song for that high speed video :P

  • I slashed my first tire with a spartan. ha ha sorry dad. ha ha

  • Love to see how they did that. I have one and love it.

  • superglueee

  • @gavranarh lol...you ever try using a tripod at a show? Doesn't work.

  • @gavranarh Just don't watch. We can do without your snarky little attitude. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • @nutnfancy bonus points for use of the word snarky hahaha

  • @nutnfancy look, I appreciate the effort otherwise I wouldn't be a subscriber. But it seems to me nutn's getting overly confident on account of the fact he's got so many subscribers and swivels the camera, running his mouth and dicking about, which is cool and funny every now and then, but gets old pretty quick. Go ahead and don't give a fuck about my comment, I'll have my say because someone needs to say it. Great work, but let's not get conceited. Cheers.

  • @gavranarh We're not here to be verbally abused by idiotic comments like "buy a fucking tripod". If you don't like what you see....LEAVE. Nobody will miss you. If what you see is old, then walk away. Duh. -- Veri

  • @gavranarh Lemme just say this too. What Nutn does here is free to you and given gladly...however, any criticism should be leveled with the same respect with which Nutn treats his viewers.. So when you roll in and say something completely idiotic like "get a fucking tripod", what you've tried to express is lost completely because you just come across as a giant DICK. There are many ways you could have said that, and we would have been glad to listen, but not THAT way. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Muhahahahahaha FTW

  • @gavranarh Mobilty vs firepower, lol.

  • i think probably a majority of knife people owned a victorinox as their first real quality knife.

  • I still have mine sense from a kid. :)

  • Im 18 and even now Ive racked up over 6 of these knives from gifts and such...what a great knife and tool.

  • you should just for fun do that video fast forward just like you said. that was very cool to watch.

  • @ 8:02 Got my girl a "Classic" just the other day...she loves the thinness, weight, and the scissors!

  • Cool to see a knife made and them given to you wow. Swiss army knife is very cool to have as many as you can.

  • love them swiss tools

    5outa5

  • I popped the plastic handles off my old spartan and put on walnut handles. Looks very sexy.

  • awesome knife !

  • What an awesome video!

  • Oh, and one more thing, lol. The Spartan has been part of my EDC for many years, and I love it. Victorinox, please consider replacing the corkscrew with another tool for your U.S. users; most of us have never used it. It sounds like our European brethren do use it, though.

  • @drzmanproject

I had the same problem with my "spartan". If you like the size of the spartan but would rather have a phillips driver over the corkscrew you should look into getting the "Tinker" model. The are the same tool as the "spartan" but the corkscrew is replaced with a phillips driver. I find the phillips driver to be much more useful then the corkscrew.

  • @RimfirePrepper Cool, thanks!

  • @drzmanproject You don't use the corkscrew??? I use that daily...oh wait, I've never used it ; )

  • @drzmanproject try to buy the new swiss army soldier knife 2009 from victorinox. It has a screwdriver instead of a corkscrew. I just don't know if they are to find in the US. I can send you mine ;)

  • @sgtscream1291 Just looked up the Soldier, and it is available over here, cool! Wow, generous offer!

  • Oh, and great job Joe and Becky, and great job Nutn - Crisco, lol, and great job Fatherman!

  • Watched it twice (so far); what a great marketing idea for Victorinox! I wonder if other manufacturers do the same thing. I'm sure I'm not alone finding it fascinating to see how something is made and how it's put together. More influential for me than a cheesy pen or Post-It pad with the logo on it. Lindt chocolate, though, would still get me every time, lol.

  • Notice how Joe sounds like Ray Romano

  • Cool video just wish everyone had been a little more sober for it because this one really rocks. Please get more like this where we get to see inside stuffs, things being made etc! Go undercover and infiltrate these companies for months then bring back the report. Or just make another Spartan- that rocked! =p

  • yeah, more swiss stuff. got to love it!

LUNDOR chocolate? you know, that sounds pretty funny to a swiss guy. I want to to say Lindt&Sprüngli.

Greats from Basel ( Switzerland )

  • Awesome! I think I'm gonna have to run by Target and see if they have a decent deal on one. I think I want an AlOx scale one though.

  • I want my free spartan... *pouty*

  • awesome

  • I just had to tinker with MY Victorinox while watching this video.... GREAT TOOL, BTW. (mine is Rucksack)

  • My favorite victorinox is the victorinox soldier or soldatenmeisser. It got all I need from this kind of pocket tools, and it comes with a comfortable handle. Not to mention the genius serrations.
