The dispute was between the ELR driver who was booked to drive the loco, & a SVR driver who wanted to take over. I rode with the ELR driver some time later during an ELR gala & he related the story to me. On the occasion that I spoke to him we were riding on D1041 (masquerading as D1013) which was double-heading with D1023 to recreate one of the final railtours. The SVR had refused to allow the D1013 to visit so D1041 was repainted/renumbered DURING the gala. I recall the smell of fresh paint.
That's the 50 roadshow hear a plymouth resident still working out his moves on preserved line...lol. I think the driver shut the loco down by accident (happens some times) more than it failing, but he might have overloaded the generator though?
The truth is sometimes stranger than fiction... The 50 was shutdown but it was no accident? cos of a dissagreement with the Driver & the loco owners about something?? the driver was not prepared to take the loco any further so he shut it down and got off and as no-one else was availble to take the train forward the Class 27 was summoned to pull the train to Kidderminster.
That's interesting to know.. I was refering to the 27 but after watching a couple of times I think he overloaded the thing trying to drive it like a hoover and it shut down hehehe
Thanks for that information. I was wondering how a diesel/electric can stall its prime mover, when the whole point of a diesel / alternator set up, is to allow the diesel to maintain full power revs under full load conditions.
What an utter bunch of pricks those blokes on the audio are. The best thing is they think they are so cool and witty but in reality anyone listening would have been busy making "w*nker" signs behind their backs.
They're just ahaving a laugh, something that we all do when something goes wrong at Heritage railways. You just take the joke and have a laugh about it later.
Bideo is good, but the annoying voices spoil it. It specially the one with the that got you far remark.. Personally would have loved to smack him in the mouth with a spanner!!!
I think that this clip should be included in Carry On Clagging #3 :) just for comedic effect if nothing else... I have the original footage if Visions international want it ;)
Why did it stall? is it because as the wheelspeed increases the excitation goes up, loading engine more, so when grip comes back, similar effect to too high gear on mechanical transmission?
The people talking sound like annoying people, militant almost!
what a bunch of nerds on the platform!!!
