I think you thought you were going to grab a chicken finger fast with this move or something because your palm clearly hit the board. there is no excuse for that. period. if there was any discretion the board and people would have moved back. you should have "lu ling saoued "it. you wouldn't had have to even touched it!
WOW You Guys really think you are video wizards and are so smart.. If You notice the first time.. Much to my suprise I failed the break. and not to make myself look Super Human... I left that try on the video... YEA I HIT IT WITH MY PALM THE FIRST TIME... My Index Finger collapsed and may palm hit... Then the second time I was able to make the break. I have been doing this for about 8 years now and EVEN I DON'T Make it everytime.
I understand that there are fakes ou there... But you can Slow mine down... I do the single Finger with out fakeing it. Please don't think just because some people fake it that all are fake.
Yes, I agree, 99.9% of them are fakes- until you watch a real master. Watch my videos as slow as you want....it is a true one finger break close up, no tricks. (Sabomnim888)
What were the three guys behind the board holder for?
If you can hold a board by yourself for a fist break you can hold it yourself for a finger break. The amount of force required to break the board is the same.
Yes you are right... LOL the reason they were there is they had nothing else to do.. LOL My One student in front was to be the only holder.. The others just jumped in the shot... OH well
Not true... A self held board is called a speed break and as I have done a few of them they are much harder than a supported break. As for the 1 finger break I haven't tried a speed break with that yet maybe in the future.. But as for the Mass of Students holding..... I asked one to hold the others just wanted to get in the shot. LOL
Hi sokecatkins,, great vid, i love it!! It always amazes me how strong these guys are lol. I just hope onoe day I can be like this. btw I do wado ryu karate, check out my kata vids!!!
No Disrespect taken but... You should take time to study the human body. There are minute pressure points over the entire body. The Cheek Strike or Just under the nose is very painfull and fully used in a self defense reallity. Our system is based totally on reallistic combat. No fancy tournament. You check out these points they really hurt when done right. LOL
sokecalkins, I see what you are saying. However in a real world environemnt the ability to target tiny spots should take low priority to striking areas of high priority. I am not saying there may not be some situations that will allow such strikes, but I can say that they don't always have the expected results and specially if you are facing a crazed druggy or somebody in an adrenaline dump.
Again with respect I hear you but... When you are in close and someone is grabbing you in an attack is exactly when you can hit those small spots. Attacking the Temple, Eyes, or other pressure points are much easier then causing enough damage with a wide area hit. If the attacker is on something the nerve shots are more effective then large area hits as well.
I hear what your saying too. You just do things differnetly. I respectfully disagree that nerve shots are more effective against a drug crazed attacker- just the opposite. I will go for his mobilty (knee, leg kicks), balance (sweeps, takedowns), knockout strike (punch to jaw, strike to the nose), or choke out. Well, enough with this all.. have a good day and until next time:)
you know I would have to agree with you.. IF this strike was only used in the eyes. But the Mantis strike in our system is designed to hit not only the eyes but the cheek, the hollow of the neck not to mention the hundreds of strikeing and pressure points to aim for. I is good to make it strong.. Even when aiming at an eye you might his the orb of the eye and that's bone.
Well, a power strike with the finger is still silly. An eye jab or finger jab to throat should be launched at close distances, less likely opponent has time to change position. Also, a finger strike to the cheek? Come on, in a real life or death situation I doubt you will be attacking such unimportant targets...
No disrespect, I just challenge others to think and train more realistically. No biggee as this is near a moot subject when it comes to more important things. Take care.
yeah but dude if you get a solid finger like this you could literally immobilize someone, the pressure point hurts way more if it's a fine object striking it, a fist wouldn't do anything to some pressure points, now by complete accident it might but with the knuckles you are hitting a wider surface around the pressure "point" that's why a finger is better, it really digs into that pressure point way more than a fist ever could, maybe that why lots of gung fu artists use the edge of their hand
The likelihood of a properly placed finger strike against a moving and resisting opponent renders the method near impractical. I am not saying that it wouldn't be effective if it hits the right part of the body at the right time, but I am talking about training more reliable and actually more effective methods. I have never experienced nor seen a scientifically verified occasion of pressure point strike knockouts but I can share tons of punches that did!
i understand...but if you wanted to be the one to hit first because he said something fucked up then this would be good only if you perfected it, if not you will end up looking retarded
The Finger strike I am using comes from A Kung-Fu System of Mantis. The Mantis strike is very quick and accurate. Hitting pressure points is only a matter of pratice.
WOW. That was impressive. I have studied Martial Arts for over 6 years and I haven't seen a better break. There are a few on here but most of them look fake. One guy even uses his hand and claims it's his finger. Why did he hit is in a downward move and not straight on like Soke Calkins?

I find this silly. Poke an eye with your finger it is a soft target. targeting hard targets with fingers are a recipe for disaster.
