I think I'll buy the Transatlantic Sessions 3 DVD as this track is on there (programme four). Hopefully the DVD follows the same format as that shown on BBC4 in that the behind-the-scenes parts are interesting breaks.

The first time I heard this I hated Paul's voice and didn't even finish listening. My head must've been screwed up that day, because I don't know what I was thinking. About a month ago I gave the song another try and now I just can't get enough. A beautiful song, two amazing singers and a room full of musicians with more talent in their left pinkie fingers than I have in my whole body. What's not to love?

lol well I grew up here so I think I would know if it is a touchy subject. But it shouldn't be, if you are born here you are Irish, you can say you are British as well but you are still Irish, people may get touchy but they shouldn't. It has nothing to do with Catholic or Protestant.

Being British is all well and fine but if you are born in Ireland you ARE Irish whether you consider yourself it or not. You are still British as are Scottish People English and Welsh.

Yes it is but Legally you are Irish, you werent born in the republic but you were born in IRELAND, being born in ireland doesnt mean you are from the south, It doesnt mean anything. But Northern Ireland is Still Ireland. Think of it this way, Ireland the country is in two parts. Northern Irelnd and the Republic. But just like America which Has North and South America, the whole place is still called America.

As far as why it would offend people, try actually reading a little bit about Northern Ireland before you make that statement. It's a long and complicated history and there are 400 years of reasons to identify as EITHER British or Irish in Northern Ireland.
And I repeat, what right do you have to tell someone who they are?

lol it is not me telling you who you are.....its the country you where born in, Northern Ireland is part of Ireland.....You seem to think Ireland is only the republic, it isn't Ireland is the land which holds Born Northern Ireland and The Republic, don't confuse the two. And you are not British, you weren't born in Britain so unless you applied to have you nationality changed you are Irish.

Regardless of what wikipedia says northern Ireland is a state or a kingdom as described in the name united kingdom not a country never has been. On a map Belfast has a border around it does that mean I am Belfastian, not Irish, northern Irish etc by your reckoning the people of the Republic of Ireland are not Irish either there Republic of Irelanders.
