You have to do a very thorough scout of the farm. Sometimes it helps to hang surveyors tape on a branch or something near the hole so you wont forget where they are. Make sure the holes that you find are active or not by seeing if they are maintained or neglected in appearance.

I guess it depends on how far away you're going to be recording. Personally, I wouldnt go for less than 25x optical zoom, but thats just me.
I use a Canon 25x optical, but JVC makes cameras with 32x. But Canon makes a better product, so I went with that one.

you just have to do some good scouting, learn what times of the day they like to come out to eat, and be patient.
