  • How do you 'burn' frets?!

  • what about intonation and shizzy

  • im so gonna build one, what 3 strings did u use?

  • Thats awesome dude! I want one!

  • Excellent music! I've recently collected all the supplies to build my own cbg. Most of them for free! I did break down and buy a pezio at radio shack instead of winding my own pick up. Would really love to see some playing tutorials from you. Thanks!

  • what tuning is this song in?

  • what do u use to burn the frets on the guitar neck?

  • @funnyrocker13 A wood burner? I also would consider a soldering iron suitable.

  • @ogznog

The song was made by a man named Shane Speal. He has a website for Cigarbox Guitars that has a lot of different musicans that all love the Cigar Box Guitar.

  • your a frecan genus

  • HOW DO YOU ADD PICKUPS?

  • @hairysaccs

    I use Piezo pickups.

  • @anomoly40 A Piezo transducer?

  • A++ cool

    Vid!

  • mmm... it can be a 6 string guitarr ?

  • I would like to thank you for bringing back my heritage for me I have forgotten about these and how we made them, because of Y'all Cigar Box Guitar Boy's I am now building my own as we speak THANK YOU AGAIN

  • Damn! i want to make a fucking guitar. I have no drill, i have no metal frets i have no a damn guitar in my hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • yeah,i think i understand now...your showing many dif. ones.thanks,as i can look at one style,and play around.However,my last Q-the "hole"...on a non-E,how do i place the hole for sound resonance,how big?...no hole,no richness,...you know?...thanks for any,and all help

  • i thought the neck only went down as far as the box,but at about 2;24,I think i see an inch or 2 out PAST the bottom...can you please explain?thanks,as i REALLY am going to make one,NON-ELECTRIC soon.also at the vids glue the neck part, you show a reg.guitar back gluing....??...?

  • are those screws (2) at what "looks" like the bottom at 2:03?for the neck?,becides glue.......?

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • whats an open chord?

  • this is cool as hell. I gotta make me one of those

  • cool

  • I bought one from rmktguitars. Com for $50 and it's so cool, you have given me some ideas to mod it out a little.thanks

  • what kind of wood should I use?

  • If you were going with an acoustic CBG then it would make a different sound to keep the sound board unsupported. Since all of mine are electric i just make it as rigid as possible.

  • @anomoly40 i have to make mine electric becuase all of my six strings(unused) are electric and only three of them go either way.....electric or acoustic

  • how did you put the neck on? glue?

  • just a cuple of Q's

what size strings did you use

    what tuning

and would you recmend piezo or guitar pick up

  • @wilkinsongrj

    I use the 3rd, 4th, and 5th strings. But I'm me, and you're you.

I just tune it until it sounds good.

And I would reccomend you figure out how much work you want to do. Guitar Pickup would be a little harder.

  • wait your going to fast...

  • what tuning is this in???

  • AWESOME amount of info for a short video! I wanna BUILD one now... sorry Red Dog, but this adds a certain amount of MOJO when you build your own... like the greats did themselves!

Shane, what can I say but KEEP EM COMING!!!

  • love it, great build

  • amazing video! the only question i have is how exactly did you install the pickups? (what kind, where on the guitar... etc.)

  • @boudy077 I glued piezo elements to the inside of the box then soldered the two wires to a 1/4 female audio plug.

  • I am considering doing this. I am going to try and do a double-necker (6 strings and a four string). However, I don't really think that I would want a bolt on there (ingenious btw) for a nut, (I am a shred head I like my action looooowww) you wouldn't happen to know of any suggestions of what else I could use by any chance?

  • @Ghostman7777 a smaller bolt?

  • I burnt in the frets into the fretboard with a wood burner. They are not raised just there for referencem

  • what do you mean you burnt in the frets?

  • what do you tune the strings to?

  • can i use something different instead of the machne head things?

  • @MrJofy umm... yes, but machine heads are better for making a higher quality CBG

  • what string do u use

  • how did you fit the pickup?

  • awsome dude!

  • great sound man, really cool.

Definitely a future project for me

  • I like it.....because you made the mastil, and all pieces.....

  • what to you finish the neck with?

  • what kind of fret scale are you using

  • yay! together we bring the guitar companies out of bisness and make the guitars they already made 80% or more cheaper :D

  • What wood did you use for the neck?

  • He said poplar.

  • how do u make it electric?

  • basic ly wire up a pick up with tine and volume to an output jack. sounds easier than it really is

  • You either wire a pickup to an output jack or you buy a piezo pickup that already has a jack and tape it to the inside of the box under the bridge (usually under the bass side)

  • Nice job, I want to make one myself now. thanks for sharing

  • think'n bout mak'n one fo' sho.

    best wishes

  • im getting goosebumps from the music

  • A good hardware store or autoparts place like Napa. They call them "roll pins" where I come from.

  • Where can i find the "tension Pins" or hollow dowels? i checked out Home Depot and other craft shops and can't find any.

is there a special name for them at all or special section that they would be in?

  • niceeeee... alotta ppl make 'em electric :)

  • What song is that in the background????/

  • Nice job!

  • NICE ^^ thanx for showing this

  • I always wanted to make one these

  • wow, nice one... good job man!

  • Could You play Rock on it?

  • Yes. You can even play nick nack paddy-wack on it if you'd like.

  • near the bridge where you hold the strings would three pins work? ( the white pin things on the bridge of an acoustic guitar)

  • Speak about t strings and about tuning, I will be made this guitar over one week. Cool! Cool! Cool!

  • Thanks. This is a great video.

  • do you use electric strings or reg strings?

  • The piezo can pick up both equally. I use Earnie Ball's blues strings.

  • how much does said piezo thing cost? And where would be a good place to get cheap machineheads?

  • Radioshack has piezo buzzers I've made into a pickup. 273-073A is the part number, you'll also need a 1/4" mono jack from them. "Prepare" the piezo as shown in my "Wal-mart amp" video. Solder the wires to the jack with longer wires to place it anywhere you want. Glue it down or use double sided tape. This is a cheaper version ($3) of the commercial piezo pickups availabe.

  • yes, but the commercial piezo pickups generally have a better tone... I bought one recently, and it sounds much better than the radioshack piezo

  • Machine heads can be found at a decent guitar shop. Ask for them in the spare parts bin if there is a repairman.

  • Instead Of Using 3 Strings Couldnt You Buy 3 More Machine Heads And Use It As A 6 string

  • No. There is no such thing as a 6 string guitar. :)

You're pretty much limited to your imagination.

  • Did you add a pickup, or is that input just for fun?

  • It's all for fun, but it does have a functional pickup.

  • does it have to be a cigar box? or can it be just a wooden box?

  • it does not matter

  • I acutally just found it nvm

  • What song is playing in the background? what tuning is that?

  • He just breezed over the fret placement. It's a little more complicated ta that

  • If you want to get technical you can take the scale length and divide by 17.817. Thats your first fret. Then take the distance from the first fret and divide again. Keep doing that as long as you have neck to divide and bam you have a fretted neck.

Or you can look up a fret calculator program on the internet that you can print off just like they did back in the old days.

  • or you could just rock fretless.

  • i like your style

  • omg is that the guitar playin during the vid? Sounds better than my taylor!

  • No it's Shane Speal on his Cigar box guitar.

  • cool.

  • could i use a tin body?and if im going to make my own body, what measurments should it be in milimeters?and what should i use as a pickup?thx.

  • The directions are loosely based on what type of box you have.

  • could i make a cut, not in the lid ? sry for a dumb question.

  • There aren't any stupid questions. You'd have to cut the side of the box for the neck to slide through.

  • well for pickups, id

    suggest standard pickups.....

but if you want to give it that more

    "flashy" look id choose Humbuckers

  • nah dude real coil magnetic pickups are to pricie, so i went and bought a piezo.

  • i made one at school last year(yr 10) but it broke a few weeks later because of the tension. i went to open my wardrobe door and it only took a little knock to break it. hahaha. it worked though and i had alot of fun making it too.

  • Awesome vid man,,,and even better sound track

is this you play'n the featured CBG, luv'd it

  • No it's Shane Speal.

  • im using ur vid to build my very first one ....but i have a ? ok i have the box but for the neck i was wondering if i could just use a neck off of an old guitar cuz i have many old ones laying around so im woundering if it would be fine i just dont know how to mount it and it might be too front heavy

  • You are one skilled dude! my electric slide cbg plays so sweet and never misses a beat! thanks so much! Nice video too!

  • nice guitar anomoly40
