I cried for the entire movie - not because it is sad but because it is beautiful, touching and moving. Anyone who loves animals, who loves people, who loves our world - see this movie.
Hey Cleveland! THE WHALE opens on November 4 in Cleveland, at the Capitol Theatre and in Chagrin Falls, too! Director in attendance for many of the opening weekend screenings. For more info check out our website, thewhalemovie(dot)com
THE WHALE is now playing in NYC at Cinema Village. It opens Sept 30 in LA at the Laemmle Monica. For more info and screening times, go to thewhalemovie(dot)com
Everyone, please do your part and make sure you tell everyone to go see this film as soon as it's out! The more money it makes in the first three cities, the more theatres it can reach around the country and the world, touching more people. I live in the midwest and would love to see the film show here in Missouri.
As someone who lived this, as a resident of Nootka sound, there were many mistakes made by everyone. Statements made in the trailer by both sides are foolish. First Nations were the only ones who had it right. On the first day Luna showed up at the Gold River Wharf, I was there, and at that time I was extemely sad as I stated then; "human/wildlife interactions never end up well for the wildlife." It is something that will never change no matter how much we want it to or try.
@ugvug you are right, the interactions that were made were wrong, he should have been captured and returned back to the waters of washington where his family still is, just like what the washington state government did for Canada with Springer (A73) instead of the First Nations getting involved everytime the governments made attempts to lure him into a pen to be taken back to WA and thinking that he was a reborn chief, everyone needed to realize that he needed to go home
@ugvug instead they intervened which cost him his life and freedom because he was killed by a boat prop of which many times he came too close to because humans interacted with him
There was just something extra special about Luna. Thank you for the original film and well done for getting a cinema release in the USA and Canada ... I can't wait for it to arrive in the UK. Heart-warming, heart-breaking, life affirming.
Just goes to show how overboard and crazy some conservationists will get to "save" an animal that is clearly bringing happiness and joy to a whole community.
@Necraeon Wow, really....so it is all about the happiness of the community who spend time with him and interact and go home to their family...so what about Luna's family???? They are in WA that is where he came from. Fortunately, the conservationist had it right on the money, it was not about what was right for the community but what is right for Luna and now he is dead at the hands of a boat prop because he always got too close just to make the community happy, he paid with his life...thx Luna
@untalan99 You are saying the whale was being friendly to people just to help the people? Really? Those are your own words "he always got too close just to make the community happy". The whale was lonely, and found comfort from all the people in the community. It was a mutual friendship. You act like the ocean would have been safer. How many whales beach themselves each year, or are are hit by boat props each year? Tons. The ocean is way more dangerous then a secluded fjord.
@Necraeon where are you getting that from ????? Luna was not there to make the people happy....give me a break, it was the people that were selfish and wanted to keep him there. If you know anything about orcas you will know they are a family unit for life and that is what he was longing for, people were mere temporary replacements...he needed his own species to communicate with and interact with the way he should have...can people speak whale??? Beaching is done all over the world and

@Necraeon it stems from either illness or misguidedness, yes things happen but the key is that it is done in the wild where they belong also I would rather see an animal die in the wild where they belong then to have them caged up and performing tricks to once again to please people atleast in the ocean they can swim hundreds of miles a day as whales and dolphins (orca is the largest dolphin) do..it is called freedom...Look up Lolita at the Miami Seaquarium see how happy she is.
I'm hoping to see this at the Omaha Film Festival in early march! Some of those involved should come and present it. Looks wonderful! Can't wait.

Why is this called The Whale? Orcas are dolphins.
zfinet3 6 months ago
@zfinet3 i think orcas are killer whales actually :L

Orcas are called killer whales but they are dolphins. They are not whales. I was just mentioning it because I found it humorous.
