you have to use special rounds to cut down a tree. a test was done with a vickers machine gun and it was not able to cut down a tree. simply do to recoil spread. now if you use specialized rounds then maybe. anything is possible, but general run of the mill weapons will not cut down a tree. its too hard to hit the same spot multiple times to do so.

FG 42 is interesting, basically a modern BAR in concept, but trying to find somewhere between LMG and SLR. I was told it had better portability than Bren but less reliability/durability/usability overall in comparison. Wound up being just too light.

@fartrage 7.62x39mm rounds will penetrate a 29cm concrete block. The only thing that might fly back and hit you would be chunks of wood from the tree.
Things like sandbags, with lots of cushion and absorption are the only things short of a tank wall or thick steel sheet that can stop this round.

In Russia what is often used by professional hunters is "Saiga" - a modified form of Kalashnikov yet more of a high-powered rifle for some precision. In fact if u live in the woods in Siberia all you'd require for a lifetime of hunting is 700-round supply (if u don't use it to mow trees down of course :-))

yeah. i love my saiga .308 but i can't find mags for it. i think i should have gotten the 7.62x39 so i could use other ak mags. And its harder to modify. I think i'm gonna sell it and get ar-10 put together.

sure the gas tube is in a simmilar posistion , but so is the m16's and so is the newer ACR's its the way guns are thats it.
to make it clear for you when hitler looked at the wat would be stg he turned it down and the company recalled it the MP44 so they could produce it MP meaning machine pistol. when hitler found out and he realised the troops loved the weapon he renamed it the STG44, wich meant storm rifle, (same as assualt rifle) primarly used by the storm troopers the ss. all facts

The word you're after is "Sturmgewehr", just as MG stands for "Machinengewehr" and MP stands for "Machinenpistole".
Next you're going to tell me that the Galil and INSAS have nothing to do with the Kalashnikov...or that the Siminov has nothing to do with it, despite an almost exact gas port/tube design.
The Springfield has nothing to do with Mauser?
And "Sturmgewehr" does not mean "same as assault rifle", it invented the assault rifle.

All I know is that they're both gas-operated automatics that put the gas port, tube, piston and spring in the same place and have much the same look and oh, one was used on the Eastern Front and the other came from the USSR shortly afterwards...
Not too hard to put two and two together and come up with five. Especially given that the Sovs had rifles and SMGs, but nothing that comes close to "Assault Rifle". Yanks at least had M1 Carbine.

well the russians had the svt -38 and 40 which was a semi auto battle riffle like the m1 garand and carbine. yes the russians wanted an assualt rifle and there were a few before the ak47 but the ak47 was the best. most gas operated assualt rigles have the gastube and the piston in the same spot to. the m16 does belive it or not. its jus more low profile.
its very clear that you are taking a simplistic approach by looking at the outside of the weapons. the ak47 is very diffrent than the stg

Semi-auto rifles firing full-size rounds are by definition not assault rifles. Garand and Tokarev don't make the list. As SLR/FAL doesn't.
No shit AK was the best. Never said it wasn't.
Eugene Stoner put the gas tube within the furniture of the gun. Kalashnikov didn't, just as the Sturmgewehr didn't. Stoner also built his at Fairchild quite some time after Kalashnikov built his. And quite some time after the Sturmgewehr made its debut on the eastern front. Where Kalashnikov was fighting.

No, what you tried to do was take a tangent from M1 Carbine to M1 and SVT
I know the Siminov has the same set-up, I pointed that out earlier. Used to own one. Put a curved mag in it instead of the non-detachable box and there ain't much to tell you it's an SKS and not an AK.
And I wouldn't classify the M1 Carbine as a battle rifle, more like a proto-assault rifle, just not as complete a package as the Stg was.
And my point was about M1 Carbine and its clipped round. Not Garand. Do read.

the point is is the m1carbine was just a carbine a smaller battle rifle version of the m1 garand. i dont know why we are swaying from the stg and the ak. non the less. the m1 carbine was a ground breaking weapon for america, but what for paratroopers the fg42 was a little more fancy

I tend to see it as a "pointer" to the future, whereas M1 kind of led to an eventual dead-end (M14, SLR now replaced). M1 Carbine mixed old manufacturing with "new" round.
FG 42 is interesting, basically a modern BAR in concept, but trying to find somewhere between LMG and SLR. I was told it had better portability than Bren but less reliability/durability/usability overall in comparison. Wound up being just too light.
Always wondered why the M60 was based more off the FG42 and not the MG42.

yeah, the fg42 was also quite accurate. however the m60 being based on the fg rather than the mg is a crazy concept. the mg42 was uncontested in its day it had such a high rpm. i honestly belive that the american goverment will never admit were they went wrong
