I Adore This Film But Comedys Nowadays Lack In Intelligence If Chaplin Saw Some Of The Comedys That Mainstream Hollywood Is Producing Now I Dont Think He Would Be Pleased. But There Are Still Good Comedys Nowadays Just Not As Many.
@AlwaysDreamChaser I understand how you feel, really I DO, but I don't think you should just bash other people who regardless of his / her grasp of the film but nevertheless makes a positive comment. That's very immature. People have different interpretations - some are skin-deep, some a little bit more. But as long as they show respect for others, you really can't be angry with them.
Yes. This is considered his first full "talkie". It caused near-riots when it first came out actually because many cinema goers didn't like the fact that Charlie would be speaking for the first time.
Field Marshal Herring: "Weve just discovered the most wonderful, the most marvelous poisinous gas. It will kill everybody."
The film was released 1940.
Chaplin prepared the story throughout 1938 and 1939, and began filming in September 1939, one week after the beginning of World War II. He finished filming almost six months later.
collectivley what ancient karma caused those effects??. Are some large groups kinda repeating them today??? I guess that's were James Bond Moonraker came from lol LOL
I would recomend you to studie a little bit further WWII. Not all Germans where Nazis and not all people in favor of Nazis knew what it was really happening.
If you knew how much hysterical fear there is in Germany of everything that could bring them in connection with Hitler or his thoughts again, you would find it sick. Call them Nazis and they do everything you want.
This was the first movie I ever saw in the cinema - age 7, 64 years ago, and I never knew that the sound track was the Prelude to Wagner's great opera "Lohengrin"..

Charles Chaplin has great courage when making this film. But I love it, you know his brother was Jewish...
Charlie put magic into the films.
Overratedboys 3 years ago
wow... that makes him a jew to..jackass
mendezfocus 2 years ago
Dumbass, they had different father's. They only had the same mother, Charlie had a different father which makes Sydney Jewish and Charlie not.
Who's the jackass now?
Overratedboys 2 years ago
According to jew law it is Mother not Father that is the defining parent.
And two, genetically your genes (that make you you) come from either parent.
So you're wrong times two.
fitzpatrick2005 2 years ago
Haha who's wrong? Maybe, according to Jew law that is how it is, but Charlie and Sydney's mother was not Jewish.
Sydney's father was in fact Jewish and Charlie's father was not Jewish. Charlie had even said himself "I do not have that honor" (of being a Jew).
In order to become a Jew you must have one parent who is in fact Jewish, Charlie and Sydney did not share the same father.
