  • Why would anyone by a clarinet knowing they could make one out of a CARROT?!??? Amazing!!!!

  • Would this be considered a "foodwind"?

  • are you in a rain forest

  • It sounds so warm! *__*

  • You are god

  • wow this is pretty awesome! hey id love to see how to make the rubber glove and condom bagpipes and some of those other instruments. :-)

  • Thanks. I bought a 9/32" drill bit and will buy a 15/32" bit tomorrow!

  • Will the carrot sound out of tune if the measurements are off by 1/2 a millimeter or 1 millimeter? I would to make this, but I live in the U.S., and it's hard to find drill bits measured in millimeters.

  • @haddock929 a 1/2" drill (instead of 12mm) bit will change the tuning ( use a 15/32" drill bit if you can find one or buy a 12mm online) for the finger holes use a 9/32" if possible

  • Just to clarify, will it work without the funnel?

  • @Jsunmile yes

  • Amazing! Clarinet is my primary instrument, and this just blows my mind! It also gives me a great idea for instruments to make for a science competiton I have coming up. Thanks a ton, and your hat is awesome!

  • I heard screaming birds in the video. Anyway, this was cool.

  • 1.25 birds in the backgroung wtf

  • Abigaill of WA says it should be really called

    A Carronet.

  • oops i ate the carrot lolz

  • Wowwwwww!!!! Only with a carrot? Great!!!! I will check you other vidéos!!!

By the way: I love your hat! lol

  • a genius! simply a genius, compared to my humble brain: a genius, You are!

Really a shining intuition! Thank You

ps: i'm trying to meditate on how to build a clarinet since a few years! You are a really a strong inspiration!

  • SONG?

  • same way, but the measurements are a little different

  • This is awesome, just one question. I play clarinet and have an extra mouth piece and I was wondering How would you use a clarinet mouth piece on your carrot clarinet??

  • Next step: Register key. xDDDDDDD

  • How would I fit a tenor sax mouthpiece to it? any different connectors or something because i am a tenor sax player and i want to make one of these! Please tell me

  • @CinnamonStudios101 I'm not sure a Tenor sax mouthpeice would work, it's too big. You'd have to find a pretty big carrot lol There's a reason the Eb Clarinet doesn't use a Bass Clarinet mouthpeice.

  • am i the only one who noticed the parrots in the backround?

  • this was so cool, i just had to try it for myself. however mine was not near in tune. i think because i didn't have the exact drill bit sizes. try, try again, i'm determined to get it right!

  • bari sax mouthpiece too big to work?

  • @ieatwittlekids yes....too big for this length and bore diameter

  • could you use this same method to make a recorder?

  • a nice carrot indeed

  • How do you prevent the carrot from rotting?

  • Could you give some specifics how much you would need to shorten the carot when adding the funnel? Thanks!

  • @teno2tube depends on the funnel........just cut off a bit at a time and check the tuning of the lowest note

  • When will your book/cd/dvd pack be released?

  • @KingSevault was hoping by the end of the year...but it's looking like 2012 as I have a lot of touring this year

  • @KingSevault if myou subscribe to my channel I will post a bulletin announcing to subscribers....best wishes

  • It has got a registrer key as a clarinet or a saxophone (in this case, an octave key)?

  • do you think this could work with a Saxophone mouthpiece?

  • @wadsit2ya2 it is an alto sax mouthpiece

  • Comment removed

  • your hat distracts me.....

  • I have a yamaha 4C mouthpiece too! lol

  • Love it!!

  • is he in a pet shop?

  • @ProdigyStepper That "pet shop" is regular Australian wildlife ;)

  • What can you do with a pineapple?

  • is the overall length, WITH the funnel, 187 mm?

also, whats an alternative to the mouth pice

for a project, every piece has to be home made, so i need to make my own mouth piece

  • Would this work with a sax mouthpiece?

  • Can you Play Semitones

  • @MrTurnbull14 YES

  • is the mouthpiece needed?

  • how can i make a saxophone mouth piece

  • That cool

  • @jetflyer96 lol thats good one

  • We made this isntrument just five mins ago its sweet! I hope I get an A+ For school tommorow :)

  • Now THAT'S a knife!

  • So I made one of these.

    HOW DO YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY ;-;

  • do the proportions of distances between the holes work out on mr curly? ei; double the distance between the holes, and it become and octave lower? which of course means if its doubled again (because surly mr curly is more than an octave lower than the carrot) the note would therefore be another octave lower?

  • @5648213 too many variables I'm afraid......so it's not that simple, but........I will eventually post a Mr Curly tutorial, or even better I am releasing a book / cd / dvd combo with various instruments including Mr Curly, Carrot clarinet and other single reed instruments

  • mind. blown.

  • how much shorter would you make it if you wanted a funnel on the end?

  • @ishkabibble3296 depends on the funnel........just cut it off a bit at a time and see

  • @SquealyD where did you get the hat?

  • Holy head condom

  • you took "playing with your food" to the next level

  • WOW JUST WOW

  • Where do you store such an instrument?

  • @ProfBlahson1 about 6 inches below the surface of the soil. only problem is that you can't put it back

  • @AromaticDogwood Best. Response. Ever.

  • @AromaticDogwood Haha, brilliant :D

  • What would the measurements be if you are using a Bb Clarinet mouthpiece?

  • what is the hose ring you used?

  • im not good at math or the clarinet i jus thouth it was coo 2 c him play a carrot

  • Thank goodness... i was like HOLY CRAP?!?! I'm pretty sure my clarinet doesn't sound that deep and warm...

  • what kind of song is it at the end?

  • that's f*cking the smartest idea in the world. you are now my favorite person ever.

  • You do realize that you're using a power tool for a vegtable right?

  • wat is it that u put at the end of the alto sax mouthpiece????

  • lol I can't get over your hat! XD

  • you´re god

  • Oops... More interesting. Lol

  • This guy is really cool and different, I think makes his music even kore interesting.

  • best hat evah

  • Most epic vidio ever I want to make

  • thats hilarious!!!!!!!!! xD

  • do you have perfect pitch?

  • Yeah, yeah, carrot, holes, drill, whatever...

    Where'd you get that hat?

  • Tripper..

  • I think one of your birds is serenading the power drill. Don't leave them alone in a room together or it could get messy.

  • can you just put the holes anywhere or do they have to be exact and can i use a saxophone mouth peice

  • @BeastTamer1723 he used a sax mouth piece so obviously.

  • hello

  • I have decided that I am going to make a carrot clarinet and bring it to orchestra rehearsal as a gag on our director. :) This is so, so awesome. I love how it sounds!

About how many mm do you take off for the funnel on the end?

  • Actually, wouldn't it also be considered like a saxophone too, because there are straight versions of a tenor...etc.?

  • @CreemeOfCheese Actually, even though there are straight versions of saxophones, they are still conical; the beginning of the tube, the mouthpiece end, has a smaller bore diameter that gets larger throughout the entire length of the instrument. The clarinet, on the other hand, is cyndrical because it has the same bore diameter throughout the instrument and gets just a tiny bit bigger at the bell end. :)

  • @CreemeOfCheese Examples of conical bore instruments: oboe, basson, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba (other brass instruments)

Cyndrical bore instruments: flute and clarinet :)

  • Nice hat, are you trying to protect your brain from alien mind control?

  • Where did you even get a carrrot that size? My parents couldn't find one even close to something THAT Big!

  • I tried. Everything is OK except F note. C, D, E and the next hole is G. Which is the fingering for F. I tried a lot of combinations.

  • lmao u just saved urself about about 90 bucks XD

  • Could I use the tube from a childrens recorder instead of a carrot? Would the sax mouthpeice fit?

  • try it!....depends on the recorder and mouthpiece size

  • thats a funny hat

  • i just love this guy. ;) Thx for this info

  • is the 187 mm incleding the moouthpeice or the whole carrot itself please resond.

  • just the carrot

  • I'd like to watch you make a carrot from a clarinet

  • can I use a Bb clairnet mouthpiece?

  • yes, you can but measurements will be different

  • In what dimension? The carrot or the connecting tube?

  • @SquealyD - Would you please post these different measurements? Or just send them to me! I can convert to standard measurements, or you could baby this lazy American..... (After all, I was a music major - I can only count to four!)

  • i could go get a block of wood and do this, in order to make it last longer. the carrot just makes it cooler.

  • although the G is two fingers, you can call it A and just transpose like you were playing a Tenor Sax

o i just realized you kinda said that...

nevertheless ima give this a try some time

  • this is just amazing, im going to make 1 of these and take it out during my jazz band rehearsal and catch my friends' reactions, nice invention!!!

  • nice playing also

  • nice hat

  • This is tuned like a tin whistle/irish flute! I play both, so that's an incredibly easy way to get into reed instruments. I'm tempted to try building a semi-permanent one from wood or plastic.

Can you overblow them for a second octave?

  • no it doesn't overblow

  • omg!! i likes dat!!! i play clarinet 2 lol

  • im just starting to play the clarinet. but i know this is brilliant! btw love the hat lol!

  • new carrot and start again

  • that was great..one question: if the note is flat than you make the hole bigger...what if it was sharp? its not like you can fil the hole back in

  • how did you figure out the measurements ?

  • Delicious, fantastic i am definitely going to try that one, i play the clarinet have for about 15 years brilliant.

  • Amazing dude, I am so gonna' try this!

  • Whenever I find myself frustrated with my future major, (music performance) I look to your videos for inspiration.

    Thanks. :D

  • Brilliant stuff, thanks a million for posting this video, very helpful. I can't imagine I would have had much look myself fingering out the measurements!

Thanks again and keep making your immensely inspirational videos. :)

  • wow!

    awesome!!!!

im gonna try to get my mom to let me make one. i just need an alto sax mouthpeice and that tube. XD
