I think some of you miss the point of this upgrade. The new wheel upgrade will let the car pull to 7400 rpm's, the factory turbo runs out of power at 5500rpms. This will translate into a higher trap speed in a lower gear with the rev limiter bumped up to make that power THROUGHOUT the entire rpm range, not just to 5500 rpm. I'd be happy with 30-50 whp with this modification and pulling all the way to a higher red line. Dyno queens don't always mean faster at the track.
@PoppaSnipe only if that were true, my numbers fall off at about 6K, not much power to be had above that. Mind you i have full bolt-ons and a progressive water/meth kit too.
@hiltu63 So your barely making more power to the wheels @ 500 rpms then stock? Something doesn't seem right, why would you keep this turbo on your car since it doesn't show no real improvement over stock? On top of that you say you have all these problems tuning it. Why not just go back to stock or a proven turbo upgrade then?
@PoppaSnipe and waste the time swapping turbos? besides that im able to safely run more boost because of the lighter wheel. My car, and only my car has run into these issues. I have recorded 33 pulls on Bald Turbo Freaks personal dyno, hes stumped. My car is "weird". im the exception to the rule. My car is a strong runner and because of the turbo i feel safe to beat on it and not fearing what i would if i were still stock turbo.
@hiltu63 Ah, so you are the black sheep of the cobalt ss/tc world as far as the BTF turbo wheel upgrade goes. Sorry your having so many problems and others are having great success, thats how luck runs some times.
not ragging but thats a really low number when stock turbo balts putting down 345 to 350 hp with 400 tq with trifecta tune im trifecta with infiniboost at 26 psi relocated maf dejon piping dejon intake 3 in turbo back and no cat no muffler and synapse bov, but i no im above 320 getting dyno when it warms up but i didnt want to spend 8oo bucks for 10 hp tho you no why i was wondering
@09slowbaltTC all cars come stock on a bell curve, the average is 240WHP but some come higher and some come lower, mines on the low end. It took the upgraded turbo (without tuning) and before the learn down feature took hold to get i believe 247WHP. On BTF's site that setup should be close to 275WHP. So ive battled that handicap through my whole build. Also i'd like to note ive driven my car 15K miles on current setup (322WHP and 360WTQ) and the only breakage was BOV spring.
dude is it worth the money for this upgrade. its close to a grand just for a wheel correct? and how much final whp and tq you putting down looking into this more. but zzp making a kit that has 500whp with stock motor.
i paid about $600 for the turbo (military discount). My final numbers are 322WHP and 360WTQ. Also want to state i've put almost 20K miles on this setup with the only breakage/maintenance being the spring in my BOV. So i think im doing good
Both a different dyno and different style of dyno. WTQ was up 25 and WHP was down 13. I added the pill, vacuum tank delete. I ended up richening my A/F a bit. A more aggressive MAL torque table. Its weird too cause power and torque fell off bad at 6K.
360WTQ and i don't wanna talk about WHP :( made 13WHP less than before. SAE numbers, Synapse doesn't have the STD correction which would have inflated my numbers to ~375WTQ and ~336WHP. Was in the car the whole time logging on my computer so no video. Used a dynapack dyno this time. Requires removal of the front wheels and the dyno attaches to the hubs.
yeahh im sure you could break twelves...i was just thinkin with a bigger turbo and what else you have that you should be pushin more than 338? if im correct on your hp numbers
dyno scheduled tomorrow at 10AM at Synapse Turbo. I have a more aggressive Max Air Load table. It seems the vacuum tank delete and pill mod cleared up some surge that i experienced below 4K. Should have a flatter torque at bare minimum, and at best 350+WHP and 365+WTQ
yeahh man some are factory freaks. but you gotta have a tune to go wiht the parts you have or else you wont get any hp out of the parts w.o a tune...and he was runnin 13.9 stock so he should be runnin low 13 high 12 easy now wiht his tune. i would say that is pretty damn good for stock
All my parts are tuned for. The last thing to go in was my water/meth. Did 24 pulls on the dyno to get all the tuning tweaked right. When i said i ran a 13.45 at 109 on my 3rd pass, i meant 3rd pass ever in any vehicle. My first pass was a 14.15. The only reason why my car hasn't hit 12's was that ive only done 4 passes, im a noob aka need to practice launches, and better tires. 12's next spring for sure.
as much as me? well are his numbers SAE or STD corrected? mustang dyno or dynojet? An intelligent tuner/car lover would understand that different dyno and correction factors can affect horsepower/torque by large %'s. Some guys put down over 260hp and tq stock. From the factory at the crank these cars are only good for 260hp and tq. So obviously they have a more than generous dyno. Im more interested in 1/4 mile times. Im an amateur and with my 3rd ever pass down the track i got a 13.45 at 109
Dude for all the money that has put in this car... it blows seriously... u need to cut ur wrist vertically, sell the car, and buy another car... lika blue prius... as for the yellow cobalt w/the huge hole... nice man sounds good... jus tint ur windows or sumpn ur ugly we wanna c the car, not the driver!! hahaha
You going to get the GMPP tune when it comes out then try tuning over that? The K04+ should be able to hold more peak pressure once that comes out. I would like to see this kit in the 350whp range...Then its definitely bang for buck
Its a hard call. As of now my plan is to let other people run their cars with it. I have a dejon intake so i would be buying another intake for no reason. I need to see if the sensors are worth it because the tune that comes with the kit is prob. likely to lower my power. So all i see thats beneficial to me are the sensors. Anyways BTF has given me a better tune file, made 306WHP and 335WTQ. Thats up 5WHP and 25WTQ. He's looking to squeeze more out of it yet
You have to be on a heart break dyno :(......The idea behind the GMPP is taking that turbo higher then the 22-23psi its running now....The only map I saw showed it cabable of 28psi, and holding 25-26psi w/o issues.
Well either way i have more of a traction problem than power. I've been on 2 dynos now, a dynapack and a dynojet. I believe my tune is whats limiting my potential. I think HP Tuners is coming out with a solution to our max boost limit. I already spent $500 on HP Tuners so i'll see what happens there.
really??? like if you read all my mods, you think i skipped getting it tuned? also the 08+ SS's have a learn down feature. Don't worry champ, i got a tune. But i should be getting better numbers. I have a factory freak, ive had my tune looks at several times and no one knows y my numbers are so low. should be around 325WHP and 360WTQ
What types of flow are you getting across the MAF? With your setup you should be hitting 40lbs/min easily...If I do anymore beyond tune, intake I plan on doing this upgrade or the hahn k04 upgrade depending on the pricing. After tune it seems the best "bang for buck" just the numbers are not that promising lately. I would hope this turbo would put us into the 350whp range
im pretty sure i was more toward 38lbs/min. I had the stock 2.5" exhaust than but now im with a full 3" catless muffler delete set up. Should be optimal flow from intake to exhaust.
Yea but I figured the DP was the major restriction, the exhaust flowed pretty well according to bench results from CIA. Do you have the new Dejon pipe setup w/ the welded on breather hole? Its been mentioned before the older ones leaked which could mess up your numbers as well.
I had the catless downpipe when i had it dynoed, but yes 2 cats = major restriction. I do have the Dejon intake with a recirc fitting but had the breather hole capped. I upgraded to a K&N filter (really small in size) and an inline check valve. The standard recirc fitting he offers is 1", but for the Synapse Engineering BOV, you want 1.25", so i had it "custom" ordered
