knew my daddy, a jazz musician, in KC, MO...Dad took me to New York when I was 11, Monk was at the 5 spot, and Coltrane was at Birdland...how lucky can a girl get?
Love him so dearly. My absolute favorite. Magical, mysterious, out-of-the-universe kinda musician. Good to browse thru and just listen to this for a good while. Monk is the man. Tank you ..been a long time since I listened to this-Im almost ashamed to say hehe! xx love and peace "Jenny"
I remember I had been playing the piano for about 6 years and was losing my interest my dad bought me a Thelonious Monk song to learn and It made me fall in love all over again.
@pohayer Just did some hunting and found it. It's from the 'Genius of Modern Music, vol. 1' album. George Taitt (t), Sahib Shihab (as), Monk (p), Bob Paige (b), Art Blakey (d). WOR Studios, NYC, 11/21/1947.

The sound quality is so good I can hardly believe it was 1947. This must be one of the early magnetic tape recordings.
