People fear that the future of the space program is in doubt, that private enterprise won't accomplish the demanding goals that government funded efforts achieved. There will be setbacks for the SpaceX Dragon & other commercial rockets, inevitably. Financial losses and tragic deaths will occur. There is money to be made in space exploration, and the dream will continue. The spirit of adventure cannot & will not be held back. That is the American way.
311 the World woke up and decided NO NUKES NO FLUKES We ask for the END OF THE NUCLEAR NIGHTMARE ON EARTH. We DEMAND THE END OF TOXIC POWER SYSTEMS ON EARTH. Let us BAN HYDRO FRACKING IN AMERICA as this POISONS MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER Let us DEMAND THE END OF THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL CORPORATE COMPLEX NOW. Let us DEMAND THE END OF ENDLESS WARS ON HUMANKIND Let us DEVELOP IN UNITY the Energy of SOLAR, MAGNETIC, WIND TURBINE,GEO THERMAL& HYDRO KINETIC 4 ALL POWER
They are the giants that NASA are still standing on. Great men but It's sad we're looking back after 40 years like its something so one off. Mankind needs to be reaching for the stars Not because its easy but because its Hard. (And rather expensive) Lets hope we return to the moon soon enough for these guys to watch...
we need to go back to the moon, it would be a great place to test our latest equipment and train astronauts for mars walks plus it would give us confidence to take on Mars!!!
People, stop with the "manned spaceflight is over" stuff. We're going to have maybe a three year gap until Nasa astronauts start flying to the ISS on the Dragon, not to mention the other vehicles that are being built. There was a SIX year gap between Apollo and the shuttle. I guarantee the US is on quicker route to the moon than they would've been with the previous program which was already over budget and behind schedule. Stop with the doom and gloom, and get the facts. Great video!
It still seems that Neil is uncomfortable speaking in front of an audience...amazing.He is not afraid of riding a rocket as powerful as 10 atomic reactors...but he is afraid of speaking in public.
@MidNightRider2001 Not true at all. America still funds the ISS, so American astronauts will still have to go up there, and will continue, as they have been since the mid-nineties, to fly with the Russians on the Soyuz spacecraft. Two American Astronauts flew aboard the last Soyuz flight to the ISS! Shuttle was used for assembly missions only. And now that the ISS is fully assembled.. then there is no real need for it. There are five new craft being designed by NASA and private companies.
@MidNightRider2001 Next unmanned cargo mission to the ISS by NASA with a SpaceX craft will be in 2013. Next manned launch by NASA with a SpaceX craft will be in 2014.
Space programs end. Just like Apollo ended and started the space shuttle. Well we are done with the ISS so there is no need for the expensive shuttle when private company's like SpaceX can bring 2times the amount of supply's to the ISS as the shuttle at 1/10th the cost.
@MidNightRider2001 Hopefully the new SLS gets off the ground. Other than that, yeah...I doubt that anyone back at the end of 1972 at the conclusion of Apollo 17 could have imagined that nearly 40 years later that not only have we not returned to the moon, we haven't left earth orbit since, and we now are without any kind of space vehicle.

I am forever grateful that I lived through those wonderful times of Apollo.
Now, when will we be going back, and who will that be ?

The gold prospectors during the 1848 gold rush didn't quit when one guy drove his stagecoach over a bridge .
Oil well drillers don't quit when one of the rigs comes up dry, etc.
Plane crash, sadly, but people keep flying.

@stevehislop He's not "afraid". He just doesn't want to talk about himself. He was happy to speak for a tribute to his fellow astronaut Tom Stafford.

You could have claimed Mars already Yanks, shame on your recent presidents
NazarovVv 7 months ago 11
@NazarovVv recent? The Outer Space Treaty prohibits the claiming of any celestial body. It was signed in 1967. That was the day the space race ended.
quantumG 7 months ago
@quantumG I didn't mean claiming it as a territory, just landing the first human on another planet
NazarovVv 7 months ago
@NazarovVv first step is to take the moon then we go to mars.

They will fly in space again though. It will just be a few years before they launch from the USA. :-(

Thanks to Congress, Bush and Obama, all NASA has is memories. You don't fly into space anymore. JFK is rolling over in his grave.

@nickyp28 Ok, what's the date for the next NASA launch? Last report that I had, it won't be until the Roaring 20s, if ever.
