You need hearing protection because all a so called "silencer" does is distort the gun shot noise into something that doesn't sound like a gun shot and there for it is less detectable. A gun shot from a suppressor can still be load and possibly damaging to your hearing. That is why you where hearing protection.

sound surpresser arent made to make a sound disappear, but to deflect the actual sound into different frequency, so its lot less noticeble as an actual shot from a distance.

@realomon Silencers are intended to reduce (muffle) the sound as much as the design will allow, the noise you hear is also a function of the velocity of the round...'suppressed' ammo is usually subsonic to begin with, hence you can (easily in my humble opinion) suppress most any subsonic round. Any round that breaks the sound barrier leaving the barrel is much, much more difficult to silence.

Here in GA you could get the local sheriff or chief of police to sign off on the ATF form each time you go and try an buy a suppressor, SBR, SBS, and/or AOW, However, you can also set up a NFA Trust depending on your state and bypass the local law enforcement requirement. The trust also keeps your dependents/beneficiaries protected just in case you are incapacitated or dead.

Its not illegal to on a silencer go to Advanced armament corp. U just have to take a test online and have the money $650 I think for the .45 Triant. Shit's awesome and worth the money.
