I've tried both metal tracks and pure rubber tracks, and I have to say, if I was to make tracked vehicle today, I'd go with pure rubber with a mighty aggressive pattern on the track, they just perform better in rocky terrain and on asphalt.
You know the apparent fail in getting out of the icy water, has as much to do with the experience of the driver as it does with any proposed modifications to the tracks.
Even Army tracked laying vehicles can get stuck when they try to ride over or through something that was not inside 'The Design Envelope, right?
I wish you luck with this whether it goes forward to a commercial application or just used for your own vehicles.
Take care, and try to find the 'Envelope' for this machine OK?
I can see one problem on both times when truck was stuck. Second front wheel should have bigger clearance for movement upward. So it will not rice the front wheel in air, but by moving under pressure upward it will lay the front wheel on the ground providing more space to grip. That is how they do on thanks each wheel has independent suspension so it will not pick the whole tank up on each rock.
Respect! Do you have the available DIFFLOCK Lock System for Haegglunds BV206? I have no relation to product or seller. But I can tell from your perfectionism in the video that Your gonna want one :) /watch?v=Sk6kOV1hAB8&feature=related
One Question, the vehicle under it's own power could not remove itself from the water, @8.55 why was the recovery method not shown?, seems the first serious test was a fail and not truly documented here?
@hagrid1796 - Watch the video again @ around the 6:40 mark, you'll see the truck encounter a similar situation however, THAT particular time the truck did make it out. Thus, common sense would tell me that at the point in time you refer to, that the truck did make it out under its own accord and thus, to keep the vid under 10 minutes, which I do believe is the max amount of time, that 'some' editing needed to be done! I highly doubt that in the situations presented, this truck could not get out!
@roadkillrob1 if you look carefully from 6:25 you can see the rear left track moving, without the cab dragging it, there must be power delivery to the rear..
@roadkillrob1 it would make no difference since any movement of any wheel will move the whole length of the track so in effect , the track itself is the transmission that powers all wheels
@roadkillrob1 @6:30 onwards you can see the trailers' tracks turning even though the vehicle is stationary - so yes, it looks as though there is a drive line.
