My little Gabby LOOOOOVES watermelon! I can't even get any for myself!!! She likes all kinds of fruit , but she loves her watermelon best, we even get it in the middle of winter so she gets her fix! ;-)

dachsunds love to eat anything you have eaten, and lick your plates, etc. maybe other dogs do that too but the only dog i had was a dachshund.

Ee, gross conversation but perhaps part of the reason has to do with grooming and socialization: ie. They would clean themselves or their puppies of either of those two fluids to keep clean. It would make sense that they would be wired to "clean" or "groom" that stuff away when it's found... especially if it's from "someone in the pack" (owner/family).

My friend's dauch got caught stealing Junior Mint miniboxes from the Halloween bowl on the table. (A chair was left too near and up she went!)

It's not uncommon. Dogs are just attracted to our body fluids for some reason, especially mucus and menstrual blood, and will try to eat things items that have it on them. I fold my garbage bag over so my dogs can't get at them.

I think it's a dauchsund trait because ours were the same way - even stuff that should have been toxic to them...chocolate, sea urchins, beer (blame my uncle)....never phased 'em.

if chocolate is given in moderation, I find it to be fine. I often give my dogs a chocolate chip or two, and it's never hurt them. It's only in large amounts that those foods are really harmful.
