  • How dope would that double knock out of been ! 9:37

  • 15 rounds true boxers

  • Much holding by Leonard. The referee let him get away with it so I don't blame him but it turned much of the fight into a wrestling match.

  • these fights r better than pacquioa vs mayweather anyway who needs em i say

  • ROBERTO DESTROYED RAY HE MADE HIM HIS BITCH HERE :D

  • Again, Duran made Leonard fight his fight. People keep saying that its Leonard's fault he lost and Duran had nothing to do with it. Such a crock of shit! These are the worse kinds of boxing fans.

  • this kind of duran will knock maywe3ather out. no doubt

  • leonard is just for money a greedy clown nigger.

duran desreves an much bigger purse

  • @EverydayNormalDude its not that they wouldnt give duran a purse like leonard(5 million etc) its just that duran only wanted a 1.5 million dollar guarentee. i like leonard but duran is the man

  • THE WAY I SEE IT IS DURAN REALLY WANTED THIS FIGHT AND HE WANTED TO WIN IT BAD.RAY WANTED IT SO BAD AS WELL AND WANTED TO BEAT DURAN AT HIS OWN GAME TO SHOW HE HAD MORE THAN MOVEMENT AND A GREAT JAB.TO BE HONES I ONLY NEED TO SEE PART 1 AND PART 2 TO SEE THAT RAY WAS NOT BEING WHO HE TRULY WAS.HE WAS INSTEAD TRYING SHOWBOAT BY TAKING ALL THOSE SHOTS AND TRYING TO KO DURAN WITH ONE GOOD SHOT.TO ME DURAN WAS A GREATEST WHEN MATCHED UP WITH A SIMILIAR STYLE.RAY HOWEVER COULD FIGHT ANYONE WITH 1 PUN

  • @dru713281 AND HE HAD SUCH REFLEXES AND QUICK LATERAL MOVEMENT YOU HAD TO BE EXCELLENT AT PURSUIT AND DEFENSE AT THE SAME TIME JUST TO CATCH UP TO HIM AND LAND WHEN RAY DECIDED TO FIGHT YOU USING ONLY HIS JAB AND MOVEMENT

  • pacheco says it best...

''Duran will never punch himself out.''

  • spics so weak lol

  • Ahi hay tres boxeadores, Roberto Duran, Leonard y el referí me parece el peor referi de la historia como golpea las manos de los boxeadores cuando se enganchan

  • BOTTOM LINE....Ray beat Hearns while Duran was put to sleep. Hagler beat Duran while Ray beat Hagler after a 5 year layoff of COCAINE, WOMEN AND ALCOHOL

Duran fans ignore 2nd half of this fight where Duran is tiring. Late in the fight Duran is coming forward but not landing while Ray is landing body shots off the ropes and counters. Duran fans just look at your backing me up.

If thats the case than Oscar beat Mayweather...SRL OWNED the 2nd half

  • Also holding in close range is part of boxing to the uneducated viewers. Holyfield held Tyson, clinched and combos. Muhammad Ali held close range and combo. Its a strategy close range. Bottom line is when SRL boxed Duran quit like a little BITCH

Ray fought Duran at his fight and barely lost a close decision

  • Post the 2nd half of the fight. Funny how Duran fans only post the early rounds. Ray actually came back strong

  • When Duran trained for a fight he almost couldnt be beat. He wouldve beat Hagler in his prime and almost beat him when he was older. He only lost fights when he wasnt serious

  • Leonard was great...but it's annoying how badly he held in this fight, especially the first few rounds

  • agarren su campeon olimpico...leonard olimpic champ..but duran is the man the big boxer the all time..duran no noquea a leonard esa noche fue por tenia dos categorias encima de su peso y leonard es un welter natural

  • agarren su campeon olimpico...leonard olimpic champ..but duran is the man the big boxer the all time

  • These fights did matter back then. I remember watching it live "via satelite" in Chile in june 1980 on open tv. The press talked about weeks before and the whole family got together watched it.

  • i think duran 2nd best of all time behind sugar robinson. leonard maybe low top 10. like leonard's ability but love duran's whole career.

  • Duran took a Hell of a beating at the end of round 5. Amazing he wasn't stunned badly by it.

  • these were true men figthing for real, unlike the sissy shit going on nowadays...

  • This was the real Duran, well conditioned, in shape and at his furious best

  • Damn Duran was doing it to him, excellent use of body punches.

  • Mano de Piedra Durán, orgullo de latinoamérica.

  • great fight

  • leonard fue bueno.

  • rays speed was overated,i thought duran n hearns were much faster..ray introduced the running stance at welter thats why they called him slick n quick..duran is the all time beast!

  • duran lookd like teenwolf

  • I did not comment until i saw the comment that says Duran will eat Pacquiao for lunch. I am not new to boxing dude, believe it or not. I have friends that are boxing

sports commentators. I can talk about boxing in all eras, in all situation at all times. Olympic/Random testing? Never been done b4. Only with Monkey May , why, because he is scared plain and simple. He does not care about destroying one's legacy just to cover his cowardice. This is why I always defend Pacquiao and hate the Monkey

  • @gudlakpo i know. why now all of a sudden??? he has bad advice tellin him what to do. simple as. why now is drug testing suddenly an issue?????? it's pathetic and i'm ashamed of floyd over this bullshit drug testin issue!

  • @gudlakpo LoL the monkey is pretty annoying especially when it open its mouth... im sorry ppl i dont give a shit about race, but people like May Monkey is why the word nigger lives on

  • I will STOP talking to you now. You are a bigger idiot than I thought. A boxer who loves to talk about what to do with a dick. I tried to equal your ignoramus thoughts and opinions but you are just WAY below me. THIS WILL NOT CHANGE HOWEVER. DURAN IS A LOSER FOR QUITTING. MAYWEATHER IS A COWARD AND YOU ARE JUST PLAIN UNEDUCATED. ANOTHER NOTE: PACQUIAO IS IN THE TALKS BETWEEN ROBINSON AND ALI NOW. No more Duran and definitely no Monkey May. Now go back to sucking and riding dicks. Adios!!!

  • @gudlakpo hahaha i like manny paquiao but his fans like you are fucken rats they go around every boxing video saying manny paquiao is better and manny paquiao this and manny that come on dude get a life u cant insult an old school boxer like that and yes duran did quit he wasent ready to fight that dosent make him a loser after that fight leonard didnt give him a 3rd rematch lol ur all over manny paquiaos dick dude ur new to boxing just admitt it all u ever watched is manny paquiao fights

  • @gudlakpo hey man look Pac got hit more in Morales, and Marquez 1 and 2 than Duran in his life time. check out the highlights in those 3 fights and check all Duran's fights all together and Pac got hit way more in just 3 fights, and Moralez and Marquez are not even close to SRL, Hagler , Barkley Moore, de Jesus ect . Duran got KO by hearns 3 weight class above Duran and a legent, Pac Got KO by an unknown Boxer on the same weight class.

  • Pacquiao does not fight like this. He fights intelligently circling the opponents and throwing 5, 6 combos. Honestly, I think Pacman will school both Leonard and duran.

  • @gudlakpo dude get the fuck out of here with that gay shit iu aint no boxer

  • @TheRight2BeWrong1. And you are a boxer, right? That explains why you come up with this hallucination theories about Duran schooling Pac and Steroid stuff wich only Monkey May would think of. Dude get a brain scan. That may extend your life a little bit. Duran is a loser.

  • @gudlakpo yes sir im a boxer i been in boxing since i was a kid i can tell that ur new to boxing cuz ur all over manny paquiaos dick lol and manny is on roids he did take a drug test but he didnt wanna take a random drug test a random drug test sir and humm accusing duran of being worthless boxer no no no duran has heavy hands and if duran was taking steroids he have a very diffrent looking body...but keep on sucking mannys dick its funny how he started getting bigger and hit puberty at 30 lol

  • @TheRight2BeWrong1. Dude, for a boxer who is NOT "gay", you certainly get a kick out of mentioning riding and sucking dicks. Get out of the closet and talk intelligently dude. I assume we are all straight here but i dont know about you mentioning what you'd do with a dick all the time. And just bcoz ur a boxer doesn't mean u know better than everyone. I am no boxer but I am an enthusiast. I was responding to your comment that Pacman needs steroids to punch hard while duran is gifted.

  • @TheRight2BeWrong1. Unless you are a Monkey May fanatics, you very well know that Random Drug testing is not a norm in boxing. How about this boy; in 2005, Pacman revealed in an interview that taking his blood near a fight makes him weak (Dude you want me to send a link to the interview? its only all over Ytube man). He lost to Morales. Monkey May picked up the interview, accuses Pacman of PED use, then asked for random testing to get an advantage! Duran was certainly lucky the Monkey Mays

  • @gudlakpo and no theirs no random drug testing in boxing thats the olympics get ur facts straight dip shit and i have respect for mayweather hes a great fighter he dont need roids lol :D u dammmm paquiao fans every time someone from another country beats a few old fighters u guys get over whelmed and shit lol and quit making excuses paquiao is on steroids its obvious u and him need to quit lieing to urselfs

  • @gudlakpo And i never said duran would school manny paquiao or did i say manny paquiao took steroids u said that urself hahahahaha deep down inside ur heart u know paquiao is on roids :D read the comment i just posted in the bottom as well i left it for u for bringing up steroids :D

  • @TheRight2BeWrong1. were not born yet (exageration) when Duran ruled. The way Duran holds his ground all the time, he would have given the monkeys reasons to buy false teeth. I said Duran is a loser for quitting the fight against Leonard for whatever reason man. You have to admit that if you are true boxer.

  • @gudlakpo and dont leave so many comments for me next time and now that u mension paquiao in his first fights he got knocked the fuck out twice or was it three times i dont remember but hes on roids and u get mad cuz i say hes on roids goes to show that you actually belive hes on roids ur mensioning weight devisions and what not its obvious u think hes on roids hahahaha

  • @TheRight2BeWrong1 Just in case you didn't know, Pacman is 10th in the list of Champion boxers who went up in weight and still dominated. He is not the freakin only one. Duran went higher in weight than him. Pacman was too skinny and malnourished when he started boxing. This explains the 2 knockouts he suffered early on. His performances in lower weights were meager bcos this is not his comfy weight. He is naturally 140-145. Btw, puberty dont dominate boxing boy, 25 to 30 ish. Pac is on target

  • @gudlakpo hummm ur comments dont make any sense he went up in wieght with the roids :) and duran quit the second fight against leonard cuz he was tired after he beat sugar ray in this one they quickly wanted a rematch cuz they knew duran would be out spending his pay check and no he aint no loser cuz this guys a true champ.. ur new to boxing cuz u come in here saying things about an old champ and saying paquiao is better that goes to show ur a complete dumbass

  • @gudlakpo paquiao need steroids to punch hhard duran is god gifted

  • @TheRight2BeWrong1 . You must be Ms. Paulie M or his bitch Floyd Sr. to believe this shit. Dude Pacman was tested each title fights there's no steroid, negative, nada. Duran? I dont know man. In the 80's testing is not proven effective. He most probably is not only a Quitter but a bigtime Steroid user.

  • what a coward this leonard just holding duran s arms... he was afraid of losing by kto... duran forever...

  • look at 5:48 to 6:05 nobody was going to beat duran that day

  • Duran showed the world that showboating is NOT boxing.

  • Duran = Pac

    SRL = Mayweather

Mayweather will hold, get beat up and lose....

  • @thinkbig727 duran was physically stronger than srl though shorter.pac's not quite the swarmer duran was and mayweather is stronger than manny.he also won't fight pac's fight no matter what.it's a toss up fight imo but i lean toward floyd.

  • sugar le agarraba las manos es un puto tramposo! hahaha

  • Duran would have eaten Pacquaio for lunch.

  • The commentators were saying the ref can't break them, Leonard should be fighting from the outside....Duran didn't let him, this fight was a Man against a soon to be Man. This fight cemented Duran's legacy and was the beginning of Leonards.

  • Duran was a much better fighter than leonard in my opinion, he wasn't as fast but he sure could take a punch. Leonard was a better boxer but lacked the power that duran had. (just an observation). In their second fight when leonard won it wasn't like duran to just up and quit. He complained of severe obdominal pain before and during the fight. if you watch close you will see that his punches lacked the power and sting that they had in this fight. Awesome fight to them both.

  • why the hell did Ray go out and fight durans fight???

  • @onlyjoetee Duran made leonard fight Duran's fight.

  • SRL lost by not fighting outside and in his style. To SRL credit he showed what a tuff dude he was. Duran got hit hard too. The 2cnd fight is SRL figihting his way and Duran couldn't hang

  • @tellthetruthg in a 22x22 ring for SRL advantage, WHAT A SHAME! a boxer have to maneuver thing out of the ring to fight another boxer just like him. THAT WAS SHAMELY.

  • 3-1-1 Duran I have to applaud Ray for his effort in 5 but Duran is just relentless and ferocious in this fight. Hes not letting off on Ray

  • a 36 -3 ray leonard you can make that 36 -5 because he lost to hearns and haglar never gave anybody rematch way overrated he was never the same after this fight

  • @3232rams Leonard was never the same after he retired for the first time, but before that, was probably the most complete fighter to step into the ring. He had everything, did everything well, and was an amazing fighter. He beat more all-time greats by 25 than most guys do in their career. I don't count Hagler - he was too old to matter.

  • that bitch of a ref is scared to fucking break them apart..DO YOUR GODDAMN JOB REF..you fucking pussy

  • i love robertos hard hitting :D and he cud swingggg

  • Duran hurt Leonard more than a few times. A close fight, but Leonard got schooled in this fight.

He didn't make the same mistake in the 2nd fight. Leonard fought a good 5th round here, but did not give duran a "beating".. Little pitty pat punches an a lot of misses.

  • He bragged too much without backing it up......? OMG how old are you, i would like to know who or what you consider is a great fighter.

  • leonard didn't even fight that much until later on. where were his great boxing skills? he tried to slug with duran and that was crazy. ali was over rated, but he had a good jab and cross, good combo punching for a heavy weight, and nice ring movement. at 56 wins, 5 losses with 37 kos he had good ko power too. his faults were keeping his hands down, he got hit too much, and bragged too much without backing it up.
  • @bigkittysmile I'm not a boxer but a fan and I thought I was the only person who felt ALI kept his hands too low. I think it had something to do with his arrogance. He was too cocky to remember to protect his neck. I saw it as his hands down was a message to the opponent. It's like he was saying, "Yea, give me your best shot. I can take it" or "Try me".

But Ali was a beast in my opinion. But my all time fav boxer has to be either Joe Louis or Jack Johnson.

  • @PAASNC It was not arrogance, it's just that his defence was his legs. He could run circles around you with his hands down and not get hit and after he lost his legs he put his hands up.

  • Duran took a real beating at the end of the 5th, but give him credit for taking the shots without getting stunned. His defense failed, but his chin held up.

  • Comment removed

  • Roberto Duran wins all the first 4 rounds..............

  • He lost the first time easily. Watch it again. It's not even close. I gave 2,3, and 4 to Duran though.

  • due grandi della boxe

  • Ray Leonard was a Muhammad Ali wannabe. No style of his own, even did the Ali shuffle. Come on man.

  • Ray Leonard was a much better fighter than Ali. Ali didn't throw to the body, had no power, got hit by way too many punches, and made a lot of mistakes.

Leonard did everything well. He was fast, had decent power, had perfect left hooks and straight rights, and a perfect jab. He threw well in combinations and could back a fighter up.

Ali had a lousy left hook, and didn't like to back guys up, and didn't like to exchange either.

He was very talented, but much more limited.

  • @TA152H01 Finally someone else who can see thru the hype! Ali was always overrated, with limitations pretty much as u just described... not enough power, not very good at making the fight by coming forward.

  • Ray is a natural welter, Duran a lightweight. Ray top ten welters in history. Duran strong argument best lightweight ever. My opinion Duran best PFP from 1970 up till now. This is a showcase fight. Rays bigger/stronger but Duran is complete package. Duran trained for the fight and it shows. Both these guys are great fighters. Excellent fight.

  • Most notably his boxing was recognized in Dejesus III, where he chose to box instead of slug with dejesus, whom until hearns, had been the only fighter to knock him down, in first rounds of the first two fights. Third fight in vegas to unify the lightweight crown was considered masterful, and considered his best performance til this one. he trained pretty much depending on his respect for his opp, and it showed. Check out that fight, he was as trim n ready as he ever was, as in this fight.

  • he shoul dof respected hearns and especially Sugar because they made him look silly

  • Spoken, all u really have to do is watch how hard it is to hit roberto,..his footwork,..reflexes,..he could box,..grew into a fine 'boxer', through schooling by ray arcel n fredie brown, between them 80 yrs of experience. They took a young brawler, and gave him style, ring savvy, smarts, & the knowledge of 'timing' punches, in deflecting their power. he was a complete fighter by the time of Dejesus III. The WORLD got to see all this in Montreal, finally got to see the 'world's greatest' fighter.

  • wasnt hard to hit him at all leaonard make sit look quite easy really roberto would of better fit UFC thenhe had a real street fighter sorta style like he would rather just wrestle and try to over power u then strategize and box big right hand but thats all he was his jab was weak and he was slow gettina roudn the ring he was also a quitter so yeah het gers my respect as a puncher but a boxer he loses points for quitting regardless of the reason "NO MAS" is not acceptable

  • duran never was a real boxer he was a brawler he did alot of wrestleing and pushing

  • If you watch the fight, Leonard is doing all of the holding "wrestling " if you will.

  • Durand is the superior fighter here. He schooled Leonard in this fight. Talk about the school of hard knocks lol.

  • Holy Shit

  • This is actually how infights are supposed to be refereed.referee Padilla didn't break the action instead he pushed both fighter's arms from being tangled instead of breaking them and pushing them away from each other. nowadays, referees are so keen on pushing fighters away from each other in clinches to the point that it becomes impossible for infighters to fight in their style.

  • Ray Leonard made the mistake of trying to brawl with a man that was king of the brawlers. Leonard had superior boxing skills compared to Duran, but he didn't try to box. He didn't use those skills. He tried to brawl with one of the hardest punching welterweight's ever. Not saying Duran didn't have boxing skill's as well, because he did. You just rarely saw them because he fought to often more like a street fighter. imo.

  • just like duran told howard cosell one week after fight,,,,,,leonard held me like a spider all night long,,,he wouldnt stop holding,,,,,,,,,,leonard told cosell the reason he didnt move and dance is because duran wouldnt let me,,,this is a quote,,,years have passed and that piece of shit leonard now says he wanted to fight inside which was a mistake,,,,,try looking at the tape leonard when your memory was fresh,,,

  • why do the majority of people think leonard is such a great boxer? I never liked him, something so fake about him

  • Leonard was great, but he was somewhat overrated, part of that was because he was kind of a wanna-be Ali. That might cover the "fake" you are referring to.

  • @bishop92882 I dunno about that, Leonard-Hearns 2, he put up a good fight. Last great fight he had. He looked pretty good at the Mosley vs. Mayweather fight too. I think he could come back and easily beat some top fighters today.

  • @bishop92882 leonard overrated...??? ive heard it all now

  • @SmackNcrack01 There were moments where Leonard was favored because of his name alone, for instance the second fight against Hearns, where Leonard himself states he clearly lost the fight, but the refs called it a draw..... Sugar Ray knew that he "stole" that win against Hagler too in '87, that being the reason why he was "retired" until Marvelous officially retired himself, then he fought again.....

  • @bishop92882 i disagree i think leonard was a great boxer. one of the best all time. Watching his fights he has a lot of heart, toughness, speed, power, and skill. I see how he tried to be a little bit like ali but leonard definately was an awesome fighter no doubt about it. Overrated no. He deserved all the praise he got.

  • @bishop92882 Well he was easily out boxed by a fighter who was suppose to be an inferior boxer in Tommy Hearns. Well when Hearns wasn't hurt he made it look easy against Leonard.

  • Dude, no reason to insult the man, Sugar didnt lie, Duran didn't give him or many other fighters a choice on fighting any other way than his style, but watching this from the beginning, Leonard did try (key word) to go toe-to-toe with Duran the whole fight, the commentators point it out at the start of the fight and repeatedly during it (ex, 2:19 into the vid here). Maybe you should watch this again yourself. If you don't like Sugar, thats fine, we all have opinions, but don't make up shit.

  • the referee did a very poor job, too much hugging and inside fighting!, plenty of times were the ref should have split both fighters up

  • Nothing wrong with infighting, I say as long as the're still throwing leather, let 'em go for it!

  • Not at all, this is how it was when the sport was a lot more de-sensitized. Boxing is a lot more "show" than "sport" nowadays.

  • round 3,4 to Duran. 5 to Leonard

  • Duran is by far one of the greatest boxers of all time...turning pro at age 16. look at some of his older fights...man he destroyed his opponents. what a body puncher.

  • in the midst of a dramatic and intense moment, the commentator gets excited and says' you know that Leonard is pulling an Ali'? And the other commentator comes in to say 'only Ali has been able to pull an Ali' haha.

  • Leonard was a big sissy

  • If he'd stood toe to toe like that with Hagler he would have been on his ass in two rounds.

  • That clueless little beaner would (and could) fuck your mom's ass in front of you and make you clean up the mess afterward, faggot.

  • Ignorance aside, do you honestly think Duran couldn't kick ur ass and put you in the same situation? He would probably put a hurt on most of us commenting here, I'm man enough to admit it, he had been trained like a machine to do so. The racist and ignorant comments just highlight your insecurity as a man. It's sad, really. LOL.

  • What a fight. Duran showed what a tremendous fighter he was, but Sugar Ray must be gutted he didn't dictate the fight on his terms. He could never "out-brawl" the animal, Duran.

  • 6:49 Duran's trainer pushes him off into the ring at the sound the bell. One of the many ways, I'm sure, his old-school trainers enforced the mentality of an animal....

  • doggolex, you just repeating what these comentators are saying, they are sooo against Duran. going toe to toe means "come lets exchage ponches" whent did you see that? NEVER Leonard was reacting and running every time Duran fainted. Duran was outboxing Leonard and landing hard before the 4th round when Leonard was trying to box, then after the 4th round Leonard got closer to Duran using his body weight to hold and hang on Duran's neck to survive. And I bet his corner adviced him to do that.

  • Dundee such an overrayed trainer and tactician. Became a 'great trainer' cos he trained the 2 of most naturally gifted fighters to put on gloves. Leoneard and Ali would've been greats whether trained by dundee or not. What sort of trainer tells their more skilled, quicker handed boxer to go toe to toe in a macho brawl with a puncher /brawler ( he could box damn well too) like duran and then doesn't adjust during the fight. foolish tactics

  • Sugar Ray went toe-to-toe with Duran because Duran actually intimidated him. Leonard admitted years later that Duran had got inside his head by insulting Sugar Ray's wife and family. Also, at the weigh-in, Duran had made several remarks about Leonard's masculinity. He totally outplayed the champ in the mind games and showed some real heart to win the fight, despite Leonard's late comeback. As the man himself put it, it was down to "corazón"

  • What an animal duran is.HIs head movement was unreal.

  • Angelo Dundee was there when Duran beat Leonard and Davey Moore. You know Angelo probably was like, damn I can't come up with a strategy to beat this guy. Duran wasn't a spring chicken. He was well seasoned. He had probably seen everything style and more buy this time. I can't see how people who have only fought 40 times can say they are the greatest of all time. Shit is ridiculous!!!

  • hattons idol and you can see why he tried to emulate him. durans lateral and head movement makes the hitman look like an ornament. Durans as perfect a brawler your gonna get at this weight with some awsome boxing skills aswell. love to see another fighter like him one day.

  • I agree with wyswyg248,the stupid american commentators were partially against Duran, like they never saw Hands of Stone destroy other fighters.

  • eat shit leonard

  • In point of fact I have no problems what so ever with Ray Leonard's actual boxing technique. Its Rays "holier than thou art" allied attitude towards others than grates on me. He would commentate at Tyson fights and show the current (at that time*) Heavyweight Champion of the world 0 (ZERO) respect. Accuse Tyson of being a flash in the pan, bully boxer with no real skills in the sweet science. Frankly, Ray Leonard is or was an egomaniacle ass. sorry to sully his legend status.

  • You're an idiot.

  • What's your problem Steven? Daddy doesn't love you,

  • Considering steven's comment, maybe Daddy loved him a little TOO MUCH. ROFL.

  • It surprises me that people criticise these guys....

they r geniuses...i prefer Duran..but Leonard is phenemenol!

But i do think Duran wins this fight easier than the commentators think and the judges i have him winnin easily 7 of the first 10 rounds!

  • The commentators were terrible partial here, they thought Leonard was going to win easily.

  • @rajinderdhesi10 You are 100% correct, the fight was not as close as the commentators and judges had it.

  • i like Leonard but i think this is the only time two p4p top 10 of all time fought each other??? Robinson Ali Joe Louis Duran Willie Pep Greb Henry Armstrong Ray Leonard Benny Leonard Gene Tunney
  • round 4 Duran 10- 9 ( 40-36)

  • Duran 10-9 (30-27) round 3

  • round 2 duran 10-9 20-18

  • Leonard is overrated by many. Only 30 or so fights in his prime, capped by a few skin of his teeth or controversial wins over the above, without relevant rematches, does not an all-time great make.

  • the duran rematch was relevant. he fought in the best welterweight/middleweight era of all time and came out victorious in each weight division. he's not the best of all time, but is in the top 10. what makes a great fighter is not how tallented he is alone but his ability to overcome great obstacles and and challenges and adapt to different kinds of fighters. that's something that muhammad ali also did.

  • @Aurelian147

I can tell that you are a true fan of the sport by this analysis. Many would argue you down not understanding your in depth point of view. What do you think about Mayweather's legacy?

  • @Aurelian147

Ray Robinson would have lost to Duran in this first fight also.Robinson would have gotten the better of him him each time after.

  • @Aurelian147 shut up u nob head

  • @Aurelian147 Man,if you don't know ,that Ray Leonard is one of the greatest technical boxers there has ever been, despite this performance. Then you can't know anything about boxing at all,at all...

  • I believe this was Duran's 70th pro fight and two weight classes above his prime weight. Great fight by Duran and Leonard is also a great fighter but to say that he beat Duran in his prime is historically and factually inaccurate.

  • I believe this was Duran's 74th fight. Going into it he was 72-1, I think.

  • Why everybody talks so down of SRL. he was the THE BEST

  • A BIG thank you to hyenachase for taking the time to upload this fight.

  • "That's 12lbs over his natural weight; simply the greatest overachieving little man in the history of the sport."

Shane Mosley did the same thing moving to 147 straight from 135. And the greatest overacheiving little man is Henry Armstrong who held three titles in three divisions at the same time. And that was during a time when there was only one champion.

  • good point; but to compare Mosley to the likes of Armstrong & Duran is ridiculous! Armstrong was an all-great no doubt but arguably the 70's produced the greatest fighters of any era. You had Ali, Foster, Foreman, Monzon, Duran, Arguello and even Hagler & Leonard.

  • Please don't compare Moseley to Duran. The former is not in the latter's class. Duran is an all-time and ranked No. 1 all-time by Ring Magazine in the lightweight class, which is loaded with great fighters in its history. But you're right about Armstrong; Hammerin' Hank was fantastic and the greatest fighter under 160lbs in boxing history. Just an absolute machine...what a fighter.

  • not only was Duran a lightweight but he completely leapfrogged the 140lbs. division. Where so many of today's fighters make a pit stop to pick up and extra belt for their board of posterity. That's 12lbs over his natural weight; simply the greatest overachieving little man in the history of the sport.

  • WOW! They almost KO each other at 9:38. This was a street fight.

  • Jesus, the stupid commentators are always saying Duran is hurt, Duran was NEVER hurt in this fight

  • ferdie pacheco, a guy who was always part of the dundee team. fuk him

  • duran was psycho focused in this fight... his anger is seething towards leonard.

  • duran was not a lightweight in this fight and i get tired of seeing ignorant comments claiming that. he was a welterweight who had previously beaten ex welterweight carlos palomino prior to this fight. Duran was a welterweight for this fight, not a lightweight.

  • a natural lightweight is what people should be referring to.

  • wow. fighters nowadays can barely compare to these guys.

  • Man, what a fight, I never get tired of this fite. Two suerior fighters at the peak of their powers. Laying it all on the line. These two would steam roll mayweather, DHL Cotto etc...

  • i totally agree

  • Duran was good, i mean how can anybody talks bulls%&$ of Duran after seeing this fight.

He was the challenger, do looks like a champ. He was the Lightweight going up to beat the middleweight champ.

Thats why Duran is considered to be a better boxer than Sugar (and sugar was good)

  • this fight was brutal.duran was awesome.sugar ray should never of fought like this.

  • Mayweather would never even fight Duran. He'd turn down a career-high payday to face Duran in favor of padding his resume with a Gatti-type alphabet champion.
