Reasons why they also changed the gameplay is that they wanted the players to feel as if they are actually more into the stealth of a ninja, sometimes you don't even need a sword to kill someone, hell rikimaru can just snap their necks and kill them still. Ayame can just use her advantage of her own flexibility just to kill them. Im guessing they changed it so they can try to take the players more into the game. But really its mainly just about the storyline.
@herpasivalitus I respectfully disagree, K2 was driving the series into the ground. Fatal Shadows being sub-par and Tenchu Z was the final nail in the coffin as it had no story, no Ayame, very little Rikimaru, overlycomplicated controls, glitch ridden amateur graphics, terrible and few boss fights, and annoyingly repetitive missions. (Notice: I don't count the DS and XBLA games, those are not video games... they are the Wrath of Hell).
While its true Tenchu Z really had no story, I thought it was pretty fun compared to Tenchu 4. It had combat skills from earlier games, which made the game both entertaining and challenging to play. Its' controls also gave a lot more control over character and generally made the whole experience smoother. The only downside I'd say would be the missions. Though, I really would like to see a cross between Z and 4, Z's gameplay with 4's story but definitely not for the Wii.
I have mixed feelings about this game. Never played it, probably won't either. They've changed the character personalities a little too much maybe? You don't carry weapons? A very important character that's been in practically all of the Tenchu's has decided to use swords instead of kicks really irks me too.
I would suggest renting it, it's actually a pretty good game and it's gotten solid reviews mostly. However, complaints about the change in gameplay are legitimate. What I do like about the stealth kills is that they are context sensitive (rather than based solely on where you are when the enemy is near). Like if you're hanging from a rafter you can reach down and snap an enemies neck, or if you're in the water you can drown them.
Interesting point. I can't blame them for changing the gameplay but I also can't help but feel as if they lost part of their replay value in making it the way it is. The old Tenchu series could be played in a run and hack and slash manner, go undetected and kill everything, or go and not get seen at all and beat the level. I've always felt that fights are a very fun way to enjoy Tenchu and if it's absent it's just missing a big portion of the game for me ;p
finally this is the TRUE sequel! it definitely has a feel of the original tenchu games even w/ the music. this game is almost really a masterpiece if it only wasn't for the story mode that has only 10 missions. it's quite short compared to the other games. but everything else is so well-made like the music, graphics, plot and gameplay. it has multiple endings and tenchu fans should definitely check them out.. when I finished this game, I couldn't wait to see the next sequel.
short stroyline? dude have you even played the game? it takes at least 1 hour just to complete 1 mission, if you want to kill all the enemies, + it has sub missions which you can unlock things
you're talking about the gameplay dude. the main plot happened only within 2 days or so. unlike the first 2 tenchu games in the PS1 it was months or even years.
And I'm pretty sure there will be more sequels on the Wii, or at least that's the rumor. It would be nice to have it on 360 though... the series hasn't been well represented on that console.
Activision published the first 3 games in the US, but the only hand they had in giving the game life was hiring the American voice actors, (& promotion). The voice acting was something people cringed at, but under the circumstances I have heard much much worse. At least they had actors who delivered the dialog with conviction and a voice director who cared. And they actually had a few Japanese voice actors for a game set in feudal Japan, which to me is like... duh! No one else did that.
I personally think Tenchu 2 is a great game (story, gameplay, atmosphere) all around, but it seems to get a lot of flack for some reason. Maybe it was because of the lack of music.
One of the main complaints so far on this one is that they haven't shown the grappling hook, but did such a tool exist in feudal Japan?
I don't think so. And this is the main point of choosing the Wii instead of 360 again or PS3, they've made the controls easier to understand to bring in more players. To balance it out they've added more variety & strategy to the stealth kills, so hopefully we Tenchu fans will find depth of gameplay as well.
I don't know, but 6:07 doesn't look too good for her. And considering that Ayame and she have been close for 4 games (and for all intents & purposes are sisters) she has a reason to scream and just completely lose it.
The main thing I'm not to keen about is that they might kill off Princess Kiku. It would make quite a dramatic effect on Ayame's state of mind, but it also might change her character dynamic too much so that she ends up dead herself... but that's all speculation. Purple is not her color, but I love real Tenchu games, not the crap being passed off as Tenchu that's on the DS and Live Arcade.
While it was cool to see him in Tenchu 2, the fact that he can't really die does indeed make him annoying. I know how Rikimaru feels whenever I see him.
"Professional" reviews bother me, some say that the first game was the best one, some say Wrath of Heaven (Return from Darkness) was best. Some of the games that they scored low I thought were damn good games! Oh well.
Slitting throats has always been awesome, but in Tenchu 4 there are a lot more ways of taking out enemies, even without weapons!
If Tenchu Z were with Main characters and continue of Story Line it would be the Best Tenchu in History. However, Gameplay in Tenchu Z is really something else! About Tenchu 4, it don't looks like even compare to Tenchu Z so far. Maybe it's poor Graphics of wii or trailer made me bad feeling about this game. Why did they choose WII so far ?
I just got Tenchu Z, and the first thing that I noticed was the graphics. The graphics looked really smooth, and I swear that was every reviewer's complaint. I think the game looks great.
While this certainly doesn't look as good, (even in HD trailers which this is not) it can't look as good as a 360 game. I'm more concerned about the gameplay though, and that's what I've been focusing on in the videos I post. Why did they choose the Wii? I think to both reach a new audience & experiment.
What I like about Acquire is that they focus on gameplay first and graphics last. Other games they've made like Way of the Samurai & Samurai Western play great, but have terrible graphics lol.
Anyway I would complain about them choosing Wii, but the Wii really needs a good Mature game from a third party and it doesn't really have on yet (RE4 doesn't count). So between this Madworld and a few others, maybe the Wii has something to offer afterall?
The PSP Tenchu is probably as good as any of the PS2 games, but I've never played it. The reason for that is that it was never released outside of Japan. You'd have to import it if you want it. And although all handhelds are region free for video games, (meaning you don't have the mod the system or anything to play imports) I have no idea of any reliable source to import the PSP Tenchu game from.
I would think so, in fact I would much rather have that game than the abhorrent DS game that we got instead. Worse yet, they remade the DS game for Xbox Live... someone should have gotten fired over that.
I think Tenchu 2 was good also, but I guess not many people like it. 3 aka Wrath of Heaven or Return from Darkness feels like a remake of the first game sometimes.
Except for the fact that the PS3 isn't backwards compatible anymore, and the 360 Live Arcade just got a downloadable variation of the horrible DS game.
Sony is doing a fine job screwing themselves, they don't need any help. Besides which 4 out the last 5 Tenchu games have been on systems other than Playstations.
hey you no what would be awsome is if they remade tenchu 1 or 2 with enhanced graphics and just remake the hole game and make it look cool and real like what they did with tomb raider anyversay but with tenchu that way they could bring back ayames sexy red outfit and they could bring back tasumaru and that would satisfie all of those fans who miss himm that would be cool who agrees reply
Okay hold on. You have a point, but maybe he should try 3rd party controllers. I'm sure they have all kinds. I think that would be better advice for him.
I don't own one, but the only complaint I've heard about the 360 controller is regarding the D-pad. But I heard that in Europe they've released a better controller.
thats whats wrong with u dumbasses now, your never satisfied .... well you know what... fags like u dont need to play the fuckin game....how about that homo
Okay, I'm butting in on this to keep insults out of this discussion.
It's okay not to like every aspect of a game. Most of my favorite games have some flaws that I don't mind talking about, but just because a game was a part of my life for a time doesn't mean that criticisms about it should be taken personally.
If he's really not going to buy the game because of costumes, then it's his loss because the gameplay is becoming way better that what's being shown here.
cool but ...i hope they make a tenchu game on ps3 that would be a whole awesome ..cause the first tenchu game was on ps1 then ps2 and now they must make atenchu game on ps3...with rikimaru.....
i hope so, maybe after of trylogy of tenchu series until 6th series on wii. probably they make tenchu 7 on playstation 3 or 4 or xbox 360 720 lol! yeah from know im just starting to enjoying this game..
It would give me the best reason to buy a PS3 than I've ever had, but the stealth kills in this game are awesome, I'm gonna post a video of those pretty soon.
Well, it really is a good game, i have had it since 06, and im still figuring little things out. I like the custom characters. I mean there is a LOT that i could suggest to them but, if your a tenchu fan, you would like tenchu z, im glad to see that tenchu is still rolling, but i hope they put another out for the 360. so much potential!
That's the Japanese release date. We may not get it elsewhere until next year. Why the Wii? The Wii needs not just good games, but cool ones as well. Plus the 360 game bombed so I imagine that it's cheaper to make a Wii game. Even as well as the Castlevania series does, I don't think that it's team can afford to make a PS3 game (maybe because Konami's too busy with DDR remakes, YuGiOh and suing the creators of Rock Band and Guitar Hero).
i wouldnt say the 360 version bombed, i still play it till this day, its awesome, could be a lot better, but the game is great, so r all the other tenchus.
Sales of the game didn't meet anyone's expectations, even with a mild push from Microsoft themselves. The game itself has gained a following, but most people I hear from didn't like the game and as a result even more didn't buy the game because of it's poor reception. The only Tenchu game I didn't like was the DS game, the 360 game I never played.
And the 360 one is great you should really try it.U always get a bunch of Tenchu fanboys complaining about every little aspect of the game, but the truth is all of them have flaws.Tenchu Z is a better game overall though the English title of it is retarded lol.
Rikimaru looked pure evil in WOH, so did Ayame(..and yes she was made to look lame now)...let see if they transfer the WOH ideas over to the next PS3 release bu tin a newer improved form.
Tenchu 1 and Tenchu 3, the best of the series, are indeed very playable on PS3.
They aren't evil, but I know what you mean. Ayame's breast size seems to fluctuate up and down between games haha. I've seen some new footage, and there are a lot of new ideas in this game. There's more to it now than the old stealth kills.
Someone told me that the older games don't play with any sound. I have the Greatest Hits version so I don't know if that makes any difference. But right now I can't afford a PS3 nor a 360, so having this on the Wii is very convenient for me lol.
You know I'm having trouble finding a backwards compatible PS3, I honestly think that Sony is phasing them out. Even the newer 160g model coming this Fall will not play PS2 games at all, which irritates the hell out of me!
I see what you mean, to be honest I didn't notice. I was too busy disliking Ayame's shorter hair and uncharacteristically purple outfit. But I'm not going to write the game off for those reasons.
As for the PS3... they're making Way of the Samurai 3 for PS3, so maybe afterwards. At least that way they'll know the hardware better. But I've heard that PS3 can't play the old Tenchu games very well, so I'm reluctant to upgrade personally.
I've been avoiding talking about that clip because A: they shouldn't reveal stuff like that in trailers imo, and B: if it is true it would turn Ayame's world upside down because Kiku is/was everything to her. In this instance, I'm glad that I don't understand Japanese as well as I should. However, a lot of people have returned "from the dead" throughout the Tenchu series, so we'll see.
I noticed that too, it could be a cheap ploy to lure in... someone, but none of these videos throw her chest in your face. That said I think it's more of a psychological intimidation factor when playing the game than anything else.
I have unusually high hopes, but we in the US may not get the game until next year. At least with Ubisoft publishing the game here we might have good English voice overs for a change lol.
what do you think after acquire making way of samurai, samurai western, shinobido, and kamiwaza (japan only), he put again to Wii exclusive, why he changed the console after in famous game on psx??? i really disagree to this point!!! but whatever i hope this can be moderns game for this console and this generation!! and many gamer loving this series!!!
My best guess is that since Fatal Shadows on PS2, (one unmentionable DS game) and Tenchu Z on 360 weren't very big sellers in the US, From Software wanted to do something different with the series and appeal to a new market. K2 was bought by Capcom, so From Software went to Acquire to re-invent the franchise. Wii is the logical choice for both reasons. It would have been nice to see Tenchu with PS3 graphics, but Acquire aren't graphical wizards, and the Wii is inexpensive to make games for.
I heard about that. Well then at best Acquire can use their knowledge from creating Way of the Samurai 3 towards a PS3 Tenchu. That is unless, perhaps Tenchu 4 is a hit... then I think there would be demand for Tenchu 5 on the Wii as well... or maybe the Wii 2 lol.
They've worked really hard the last gen, so I hope that I get to see everything they make in the US from now on. Of course PS3 has no regional lockout, but I'd rather buy it in my country rather than import. Now if PS3 would only fix it so you can play the older Tenchu games without errors...
Tenchu 3 > All.

i hope so, maybe after of trylogy of tenchu series until 6th series on wii. probably they make tenchu 7 on playstation 3 or 4 or xbox 360 720 lol! yeah from know im just starting to enjoying this game..
FaithHoli 3 years ago
It would give me the best reason to buy a PS3 than I've ever had, but the stealth kills in this game are awesome, I'm gonna post a video of those pretty soon.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
Well, it really is a good game, i have had it since 06, and im still figuring little things out. I like the custom characters. I mean there is a LOT that i could suggest to them but, if your a tenchu fan, you would like tenchu z, im glad to see that tenchu is still rolling, but i hope they put another out for the 360. so much potential!
CarolinaBloo 3 years ago
yeah its awesome...
area3232 3 years ago
The only thing I probably wouldn't like is not being able to play as Rikimaru nor Ayame, (and god I miss Tatsumaru).
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
Speaking of the 360, stay away from the Tenchu game on Xbox Live Arcade, pretend it doesn't exist! You have been warned.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
why are they putting it on wii and the day before my birthday it 's just wrong i hope it comes to ps3 or im going to riot

AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
i wouldnt say the 360 version bombed, i still play it till this day, its awesome, could be a lot better, but the game is great, so r all the other tenchus.
CarolinaBloo 3 years ago
Sales of the game didn't meet anyone's expectations, even with a mild push from Microsoft themselves. The game itself has gained a following, but most people I hear from didn't like the game and as a result even more didn't buy the game because of it's poor reception. The only Tenchu game I didn't like was the DS game, the 360 game I never played.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
the tenchu DS sucks!
dejikirikakane 3 years ago
Don't even speak it's name! Worse yet, they remade it for Xbox Live Arcade! Don't even download a demo of it, you'll be scarred for life!!!
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
And the 360 one is great you should really try it.U always get a bunch of Tenchu fanboys complaining about every little aspect of the game, but the truth is all of them have flaws.Tenchu Z is a better game overall though the English title of it is retarded lol.
AgentSpiral 3 years ago
Actually I stand corrected, they are making a Castlevania for PS3 & 360 (I posted a video of it)... so what do I know?! lol
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
Rikimaru looked pure evil in WOH, so did Ayame(..and yes she was made to look lame now)...let see if they transfer the WOH ideas over to the next PS3 release bu tin a newer improved form.
Tenchu 1 and Tenchu 3, the best of the series, are indeed very playable on PS3.
Try em' out!
jDemegod 3 years ago
They aren't evil, but I know what you mean. Ayame's breast size seems to fluctuate up and down between games haha. I've seen some new footage, and there are a lot of new ideas in this game. There's more to it now than the old stealth kills.
Someone told me that the older games don't play with any sound. I have the Greatest Hits version so I don't know if that makes any difference. But right now I can't afford a PS3 nor a 360, so having this on the Wii is very convenient for me lol.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
You know I'm having trouble finding a backwards compatible PS3, I honestly think that Sony is phasing them out. Even the newer 160g model coming this Fall will not play PS2 games at all, which irritates the hell out of me!
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
A. They need to fix Rikimaru's hair!
Bring back his cooler looking long locks from Wrath of Heaven.
B. Release it on PS3!
jDemegod 3 years ago
Wha-huh? Rikimaru has always had short white hair. And he's certainly never had long locks.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
Rikimaru did have short hair yes, but it was longer and "cooler/rocked out anime" styled hair. Not this brilloy buzz cut.
Compare WOH to tthe tenchu 4 and you can see it looks lame.
jDemegod 3 years ago
I see what you mean, to be honest I didn't notice. I was too busy disliking Ayame's shorter hair and uncharacteristically purple outfit. But I'm not going to write the game off for those reasons.
As for the PS3... they're making Way of the Samurai 3 for PS3, so maybe afterwards. At least that way they'll know the hardware better. But I've heard that PS3 can't play the old Tenchu games very well, so I'm reluctant to upgrade personally.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
So I'm guessing the woman Ayame was crying over is Princess Kiku? :'(
Vizp1 3 years ago
I've been avoiding talking about that clip because A: they shouldn't reveal stuff like that in trailers imo, and B: if it is true it would turn Ayame's world upside down because Kiku is/was everything to her. In this instance, I'm glad that I don't understand Japanese as well as I should. However, a lot of people have returned "from the dead" throughout the Tenchu series, so we'll see.

the new villain is busty !!
roadkillbtbt 3 years ago
I noticed that too, it could be a cheap ploy to lure in... someone, but none of these videos throw her chest in your face. That said I think it's more of a psychological intimidation factor when playing the game than anything else.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
nice trailer!!! maybe this can be a good gameplay for this year!!!
FaithHoli 3 years ago
I have unusually high hopes, but we in the US may not get the game until next year. At least with Ubisoft publishing the game here we might have good English voice overs for a change lol.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
what do you think after acquire making way of samurai, samurai western, shinobido, and kamiwaza (japan only), he put again to Wii exclusive, why he changed the console after in famous game on psx??? i really disagree to this point!!! but whatever i hope this can be moderns game for this console and this generation!! and many gamer loving this series!!!
FaithHoli 3 years ago
My best guess is that since Fatal Shadows on PS2, (one unmentionable DS game) and Tenchu Z on 360 weren't very big sellers in the US, From Software wanted to do something different with the series and appeal to a new market. K2 was bought by Capcom, so From Software went to Acquire to re-invent the franchise. Wii is the logical choice for both reasons. It would have been nice to see Tenchu with PS3 graphics, but Acquire aren't graphical wizards, and the Wii is inexpensive to make games for.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
Acquire making Way of Samurai 3 on Play Station 3.... i think Acquire was a good graphical for the next gen!!
FaithHoli 3 years ago
I heard about that. Well then at best Acquire can use their knowledge from creating Way of the Samurai 3 towards a PS3 Tenchu. That is unless, perhaps Tenchu 4 is a hit... then I think there would be demand for Tenchu 5 on the Wii as well... or maybe the Wii 2 lol.
AlucardsQuest 3 years ago
yes, and it's until 6th series
FaithHoli 3 years ago
They've worked really hard the last gen, so I hope that I get to see everything they make in the US from now on. Of course PS3 has no regional lockout, but I'd rather buy it in my country rather than import. Now if PS3 would only fix it so you can play the older Tenchu games without errors...
