the smell is from the paper mill in town; smells like cobs of corn boiling in a pot intense, bad and good; I love driving from Little Current up to Espanola and anywhere up north, it's like a different world from S. Ont., kind of exciting, big, fresh, open, mysterious.
I used to live here. Moved to Thunder Bay in the summer of ‘89. Back then Espanola had no MacDonalds, no Tim Hortons and the land directly across the highway from the shopping mall was a complete swamp. I remember eating at the Golden Dragon and Cortina restaurants. The Giant Tiger store used to be a tiny Canadian Tire and the down town shopping core was still thriving with the department stores. I also remember back in the late 80's there was a huge fire at the mill that lasted a few days
There's a great Chinese restaurant there with a buffet. And they've got a McDonalds. It's not THAT small! Depends on your perspective, I guess.. he he

@wieners96 I guess that Cabbage smell must have disipated when you moved.. Because I have been there a few times lately and it smells nothing like Cabbage.
at least its better then where i live. we have no sidewalks, no streetlights, no highschool, no cloth stores or a place to do geroceries we have to go to sault ste. marie or thunder bay which is 4 hours away to go get food and cloths.. id do anything to live there.

I live in Espanola it's really fun, and plus it does smell but when you live there for so long then you get use to it. but it's also kinda boring :/
