Children don't vote so they are of little value politically. It's disgraceful how vulnerable children are in this province. All schools should have a lunch program lots of kids come hungry, how do they learn then, it's very sad.

Thats only a small percentage.I know a girl who just left her abusive husband, is pregnant with 1 child.She to goto welfare because the loser dad doesn't want to help out and doesn't want the kids. She dont drink or smoke. The only help she is getting is $790 a month from assistance. They tell her she had to sell her car, so she did. She sold it for $2500.Then they didn't help her for 3months,claiming $2500 was enough for 3

Canadians are told we need more immigrants because people are not having enough children. I left BC when we were expecting another child. Daycare for a baby was $1200 per month we were already paying $600 for the school age one. $1800 per month for the priviledge of giving canada 2 kids. Working parents are getting screwed. How does anyone afford it even with a 2 income family? we sold a 1 bed apt in BC. Bought a huge house on acre only one parent works, no crime, no immigrants, BC sold out

Dude that is the case 100%.When i came back here from going to school in the US 2 of my close friends were doing break and enters for money. He told me he got laid off(cutbacks) and rent came up so he started ripping off shit. That finally lead to smash and grabs(stealing laptops/safes/electronics ect..)He started making enough money in one night to last for a month.I would probably have done the same.He cut all of very good youth offender programs also.Sold the fats cats for 12mil(worth 1bil)

There's no such thing as "child poverty"... a child's poverty is really the parent's poverty, almost always a case of single-mother poverty. Granted, we are in a time of economic prosperity so the government should look at increasing welfare to single mothers, but we MUST also offer some TUFF LOVE and get at the REAL solution: Women should be more responsible and not have kids when they have no income and then expect the taxpayer to pay for them.

Things are relatively expensive in BC, no doubt about it. But I dont see how that justifies your immigrant-bashing. You sound kind of racist to me. Without immigrants Canada would not have any prosperity at all and we'd all have a much worse quality of life. BC is getting by on the "Working class taxed to death Families". For every $2,000 gross income pay cheque you take home $1,100. Add to that gst, pst, and the new carbon tax, property tax, parking, water rates, the list goes on. 75% of family income in BC goes to housing. Rest of canada 40% (except for Toronto) What does the GVRD and Toronto have in common? Look up statistics Canada and see where 97% of immigrants coming to canada live. eat a dick. your racist.

Yep My father is political rep and he tells me the exact same thing. I am paying for pension but i wont be getting one because the pension fund is drying because funds were cut.Everybody is saying 2021 the pension will be done. It already is in talks of going privatized same with healthcare. Makes me think if we are living in the states. I hated it down there

Thanks for the informative post. We just interviewed some homeless activists and people in poverty in BC on Free Radio Santa Cruz in California. The similarity of poverty here and in the US are very astounding. We will write and call to support you. Poverty is an international issue. I will try and get this played on the next show on Free Radio and also post on my Blog. Thanks! Homeless youth awareness month is over but the issues remain.
