Methyl mercury is an organometallic cation with the formula CH3Hg+. Thimerosal formula is C9H9HgNaO2S. These substances are NOT the same! Extrapolation of Thimerosal effects based on methyl mercury is both inaccurate and irresponsible, as they behave differently in the body.

By the way, just because a study is published does not mean it has high methodological rigor. As a participant in and conductor of peer reviewed research, I've read endless number of studies that are seriously flawed, but published nonetheless. Multiple studies have not established that the MMR vaccine nor thimerisol causes autism.

Vaccines don't work! Seriously show me one double blind test study that PROVES that any vaccine works. Don't confuse natural immunity with what you get from a vaccine. Vaccines are from the dark ages of medical science. Diseases have not gone away or been reduced by vaccines. Scarlet Fever is almost nonexistent today and went away like many other diseases at the same time for reasons unrelated to vaccines. Vaccines instead can spread the diseases they were meant to protect us from.

It should be noted that Thimerosal concentration in MMR vaccine is 25ug, or 0.000025grams. A 25 lb child has approx 20dl of blood, giving a real Thimerosal blood concentration of 0.00000125g/dl. Not only is this substantially below the danger threshold for methyl mercury (10 ug/dl), it is below detectable levels.

@thinkingman07 Perhaps the most fundamental concept in research is that correlation does not imply causation. Please read Paul Offit's book "Autism's False Prophets". By the way, just because a study is published does not mean it has high methodological rigor. As a participant in and conductor of peer reviewed research, I've read endless number of studies that are seriously flawed, but published nonetheless. Multiple studies have not established that the MMR vaccine nor thimerisol causes autism.

I would suggest to you that Paul Offit's book is about as credible as doctor who suggests that smoking does not cause cancer--as they did in the 50's. The fact of the matter is most research is controlled by deep pocketed drug interest. Nevertheless, this article makes, a sound suggestion, that certain adjuvants--like aborted fetal lung tissue--in vaccines can cause severe inflammation and neurogenic deficits.

@promiseIsaih60 Too bad epidemiological studies don't back you up--none of the conditions you mentioned have underone dramatic increases in ocurrence since '89 with the exception of hypertension--and that is linked to obesity, lack of exercise and high levels of sodium intake. Schizophrenia has remained consistent, while Alzheimers and dementia correlate with the aging of the Boomer population. BTW, Atalatl is my 1st cousin.

The BMJ has no disciplinary abilities, it is a journal. The GMC removed Wakefield's licence. Please advise as to the jurisdiction where Wakefield has a licence to practice in the USA.

No real world studies of the vaccine schedule have ever been done. Of the 11 separate vaccines given to American children (many given multiple times), only one vaccine -- the MMR -- has ever been studied for its relationship to autism. Yet, American children get 6 or 7 different vaccines simultaneously at 2, 4, 6, and 12 month doctor appointments~Not one study compares vaccinated children to unvaccinated children -- every study only looks at children who have received vaccines~

The "fourteen studies' are being misrepresented by public health officials who are trying to save the current vaccine program, which has ballooned from 10 vaccines in the 1980s to 36 today, a 260% INCREASE! During this same time, autism rates have gone from 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 110, a 9,000%, or 90-FOLD INCREASE!

The definition of autism was VERY substantially widened under lobbying pressure from teachers' unions, NEA, and parents lobbies. What you see is the result of that inappropriate decision, confused by fools who thought that Wakefield was correct, as he played into their ignorance-based paranoia. Prior to that decision to change criteria, most diagnosed as autistic now would not be.

If you listen to well-paid spokespeople of the vaccine industry, you’ll hear that the case is closed on the link between vaccines and autism and that the scientific consensus supports no association. It’s eerily reminiscent of the days when tobacco companies produced a consensus of science showing no link between smoking and lung cancer~calmer voices like Dr. Bernadine Healy, the former Director of the NIH, are rising up and challenging this rhetoric~
