  • got a good pistol grip

  • is this the compact model?

  • My 33-year-old niece will be receiving my Springfield .45 Service in the not-too-distant future. She knows next to nothing about guns but has a healthy attitude and is eager to take lessons from an instructor. She's of fairly strong build, similar to the gal in the vid, and I can't see there being any problem with her starting out on a .45 auto, though some gun folks she's spoken with thinks it might be a little too big. Any constructive comments regarding the issue would be much appreciated!:-)

  • @guyNbluejeans Shouldn't be a problem, especially if she starts out with a .45- she won't know any different. I personally don't see a huge amount if recoil difference between 9mm .40 and .45 auto cartridges. There's obviously some but its not like shoot magnums in a revolver. .357 mags and up can be a handful for some women (and men) shooters.

  • @jawaring Thanks for the feedback, sir! My thoughts exactly with her not knowing any different starting out on a .45. Cripes, there must be millions of lady cops that have no problems...

  • @guyNbluejeans

I'm not sure if it is too late, but I'd highly recommend starting her on a .22LR. There is a noticeable difference between .45 and 9mm, especially for the average female build.

If you put too big of a round as their first shot (which the 45 is certainly a handful for a newbie), then they'll develop a flinch and possibly will be turned off to guns altogether.

  • @guyNbluejeans NO FIRST PISTOL GET AN XD9, THEN MOVE UP. Trust me...

  • Hi im from England where guns are illegal, i love them! Anyway i love watching a woman firing handguns, good shooting girl!!!!!

  • She has her arm locked, tho...loosen up a tad.

Got my wife one, she loves her Springfield.

  • Great vid! Good shooting and staying on target - Keep up the practice!

My GF's first pistol shot was a .45ACP as well, and now she begs me to take her to the range to shoot my XD45! Lots of kick, but an easy pistol to control and get used to for such a powerful round.

    Cheers and happy shooting!

  • Trust my life with my xd45....daily.

  • so do i =) its a great firearm. i carry winchester supreme elite bonded JHP's in mine. i love that combo

  • GUNS R GREAT

  • This video goes to show you that women can shoot .45 ACP and don't always need .22, .380 Auto, or .38 Special.

Was this her first time shooting?

Also what kind of rounds, and targets were those you shot at?

    Thanks!

  • It was her first time shooting a pistol. I usually fire Wolf ammo, pretty cheap and never had issues with it. We were just shooting at junk, some scrap pieces of plate, a few brake rotors and a kitchen sink...

  • Wow, you fired at scrap metal without frangible ammunition, and you gave her multiple rounds her first time shooting???

  • is the legal age to buy a handgun 21 or 18?

  • 21 to purchase a handgun and ammo. some states require a permit.

  • I may be wrong about the 18 now, that was a while back when I got mine, so it may be 21 now in Va. I didn't mean to mislead if I did

    Later ^..^.

  • 18 here in Va

  • I got my purchase permit today but can't decide between the xd or a ruger p345...

  • Ruger's are notorious for malfunctions.

Go with the XD or a glock. You won't be disappointed. Ruger makes a good revolver, but other than that, spend a little extra and get the quality.

  • so I bought the XDm 9...and got the TLR 2, light laser combo. I've only put ten rounds through it, but it shoots nice could shoot it all day no doubt. Have also bought 2 more mags for it. Field strips ez. I love it! Oh and I love Gander mnt but it was $80 more there than at the gun stores.

  • I have to disagree, all of my hand guns are Ruger and I havent once had a problem with them! I have the P345 and the SR9 and I love them! I do agree with you that the XD is a great gun but as far as the Glock is concerned,Ive had some issues...

  • IF you like the p345 then I guess that's fine for you. I HATE the trigger on that gun. My brother bought one for Christmas, and he has been trying to sell it since he took it out shooting for the first time. For the money the XD is the best value. If one can afford a little more, the H&K's are awesome, but I would never buy a Ruger Semi-auto. Their Revolvers and Rifles are fine guns, but the Semi-auto pistols have been nothing but bad luck for everybody that I know that has ever owned one.

  • Yea thats cool, just had to throw in my 2 cents lol,but i agree that for the money the XD is an awesome hand gun! I enjoy shooting my buddies every time we go to the range and will soon buy one for myself!

  • You can't go wrong with a Ruger, I love them. Imiss mine that were stolen, all my pistols.... gone.... i had many many guns, over 100. I don't know how many for sure. Now I only have 4. :(

  • god damn what the hell happened?were they locked up?

  • Had a closet with a deadbolt, looks like they used 2 crowbars. Anyways, the cops said they didn't recover any of them. Well its a small town here, word travels fast. They kept what they reclaimed. What can ya do? Its the MAN. I will be investing in a safe soon! I would just be happy to get my Grandfathers guns back, just 1, I'd be happy. The 2 thieves get out in about year, it was a neighbor. I can't wait to welcome him and his buddy home. I'll be sure they break probation, cause its on.

  • I agree! but go XD, I'd put it up to a Glock any day!

  • I had a Ruger. Hated it.

  • XD!!!!! or XDM!!!! Ruger is very good tho, I just like XD's.

  • I got the XDM!!! I now have several hundred rounds through it and no issues...I love it!

  • I have yet to get a XD-M, I can't wait! Think I'm gonna get the .40. Not sure yet. I hate to say cause here comes the hate, but, its better built than the glock. Thats why its around 3oz. heavier. Enjoy that thing!!!!

  • you go girl

  • i am gettin a xd 45 this thursday cant wait to go shoot

  • Enjoy, they are great guns!

  • I was thinking of getting an xd45 compact for a first pistol. What are your thoughts on this gun?

  • Any XD is great! But if ya have a few extra buck look at the XDm's! You will enjoy, you can not find a better barrel than what is in the XDm's!

  • do it! I'm not sure if there is a sub-compact .45. If so let me know....LOL!

  • You're gonna love it! Fires GREAT out of the box!!!! I'd clean it good before shooting it the first time. Also, after cleaning the barel, notice the fist couple of rounds may be a bit off, anytime ya clean the barel, some reason the 1st 2 or 3 rounds are off a bit. This is not an XD thing, I've noticed this almost every gun. If anyone can explain this to me, I'm all ears!

  • It could be attributed to you putting the gun back together with a little difference than before it was taken apart. Sometimes when this happens, the parts aren't in their natural position until fired a few times. My question is, do you do a few functions check after putting the gun back together? This may solve your problem, as it did with me.

How long ago did you buy a pistol at 18?

  • Im 35 now, I always function test all guns. Now that Ive thought about, Id say it only happens with some guns now, my bad! My Taurus24/7 PRO.40, was perfect from the 1st shot to the last! I just bought it 2 days ago, it is my primary gun I carry now It was perfect!!!! I was really impressed. Its more accurate than my XD's.40sub,service9mm&45.

I wonder if the bbl temp. is much cooler the 1st shot, or may be some thing to do with a freshly cleaned bbl. I don't really know why to be honest.

  • She managed the recoil great. Better than some guys on youtube shooting the XD 9mm.

  • Women can be excent, I've seen women shoot circles round the guys, and 2 out did me BAD!!!! I learned humility that day...lol. And a few pointers from them too.

  • that doesn't look like a range

  • That's a hillbilly range

  • Those are the best kind

  • Thats the truth!!!!!!! Yaw in here should try 1 sometime. You'll see why if ya take some melons and some old canned food, beans are the best with a 270...LMAO!!!!! use hollow points, its prettier, hehe. Play with different calibers, you'll be surprised what some guns can do!!!!
