This is a Type Y oil engine, not a diesel. The later Y-V diesels didn't need preheat.

@douro20 Semi-diesel, can run on several types of fuel.

@fixitdude74 Semi-diesel was a later dreamed up term for these engines (marketing ploy perhaps?). There's really nothing diesel about them. The fuel introduction timing is far closer to BDC than TDC and is quite low pressure. The compression ratio is probably around 5:1. Just not the same animal to those in the old engine game. Much less economical than diesels as well.
