I see you are of the opinion that "only retards blog." I postulate that you are simply jealous of bloggers because you have nothing interesting to say. You have my pity.
Quite true! Although there IS a Death movie in the works, based on the second mini-series. I think Sandman COULD be done, but it would either have to be like a 3-4 hour movie per volume, or a serialized big budget TV series. If I ever make it big as a director, I'd LOVE the chance to tackle it. I'd make sure it was done RIGHT, dammit!
I think the death movie is going to be based off of the "High cost of Living" book, so It won't be too hard to make from a technical standpoint. But damn, I'd want to see a Sandman movie.
I love Neil Gaiman's novels and a friend the other day randomly gave me her copy of Preludes and Nocturnes.I'm not a fan of Western comics so I was a little unsure but I was amazed by it!I hope I can get The Doll's House soon even if I'm dead broke XD
Niiiice ;) I've missed Gaiman at booksignings twice I think... in my defence they were in Stockholm, 7 hrs away from here. But someday!! Someday he will sign my tattoo at least (they key on your t-shirt, you know the one). Thanks for spreading the word, peace!
Like bunnynamu, your clear, concise little "review" of the Sandman series has spurred me on to go and buy/rent/borrow it. (I've just started reading an anthology of his short stories, "Smoke and Mirrors" and thus got interested in his stuff.) Thanks! :)
gaiman's sandman is more a reinvisioning of kirby's take on sandman than on the 40's character....that one was reinvisioned in sandman mystery theater by wganer and seagle....although gaiman does give a tip of the cap to wesley dodds early in the series....nice blog tho
lov gaiman and met him too a whiles back although i couldnt think of a good question to ask like you did. sandmans one of the few things that remain consistant in my interests throughout the years. im actually friends with an artist that worked with him that dave mckean copped some style from. good to see another fan.
i really enjoyed this. it was a well shot, well thought out ramble lol. i am a huge Neil Gaiman fan and am curently reading "American Gods"(its actually in my hands right now). "Sand Man" is most likely going to be the next series of his to be put on my plate. i wonder, have you read "Good Omens"
You won't be disappointed! Sandman is quite the epic, and if you enjoy American Gods I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well. A true modern mythology.
I haven't actually read Good Omens yet, although it has come highly recommended to me many times, so I'll definately have to give that one a read at some point. Thanks for the comments!
This is the first video of yours I've watched and I like it. Your very good at this whole speaking in front of the camera thing. While I have not had the pleasure of reading these comics, or perhaps you could call them literary works I've heard about them before. I myself am not a big fan of reading much of anything. Enjoyed it though.
I found this to be quite professionally done and interesting. It could have been even better if you put in some picture bits when you were narrating though.
Thanks for the kind words! I agree, some pictures would have helped spice things up a bit, I was actually thinking about that later. I'll likely try that the next time I do a big review show.
My pleasure, bunnynamu! Thank you for the kind comments. As for price, the reprint editions generally go for between 20-30 dollars each, depending where you find them. There's 10 volumes total, then there's also a few tie-in books if you're still hungry for more after you're done. :)
This was a nice video. I really appreciated the background information you gave on Gaiman's "The Sandman." Very well spoken, etc.
I met Neil (we're on a first name basis)this past September in Austin, TX for his "Anansi Boys" book signing. Watching your video (thanks for that too!) gave me such an overwhelming feeling - remembering how I felt meeting him. His mannerisms and appearance are the same although there's a 4(?) year gap. Funny.
Thanks for the nice comments, jubilee! He was very well-spoken, polite, and interesting. Had lots of things to talk about before and after the reading, and was consistently friendly and polite with all the fans at the signing. Despite the fact it was RIDICULOUSLY hot in there that day, I know it would have dampened my spirit if I had been in his place! Overall, a very pleasant experience for a fanboy like me. :)
Alas, I don't have an external mic setup that's good enough at the moment (yes, I have the mixer you've seen in other editions, but the mics I have are mainly for close-up use - for audio stuff, rather than video), and if I started mucking about with the levels on every clip it would take waaayyyy to long to edit together.
Thanks for the comments, RDJim! As for the multiple camera angles, I do that for a couple of reasons - mainly to punch it up a bit visually (so you're not staring at the samangle for 10 minutes), and so I can break it up into smaller chunks and "gather my thoughts" for each clip. I had to tighten the edits quite a bit in this one, so the cuts aren't QUITE as tight as in the previous 2.
Nice job with these vlogs. I'm not sure about the simulated multi-cam effect. You might try working on the timing of the cuts and using an external mike that stays put to keep audio levels the same.
You won't regret it. :) The series was reprinted as 10 volumes, I recommend reading them in order (they're pretty clearly numbered). The second book is where it really picks up, so don't be put off if the first book doesn't grab you right away. That said, enjoy!
Wow! That was so awesome that u got to meet Neil! And I can't wait to read The Sandman!

You know what's the best thing about Sandman?
Most likely, it will never be made to an insultingly bad movie, because no one has the balls to attempt it. :D
They thought LOTR was insanely hard to make... Could you imagine how hard sandman would be? OMFG /wrists.

I just can't understand why this video has gotten an 3 star mark. What were people expecting, explosions? monkeys? Exploding monkeys?
Rant over. You've done a great job and have done great justice to Gaiman and his works. All in all, I enjoyed it. Cheers.
