Hey you said you installed the right wacom drivers, can you please post the link to those drivers, because my ls800 does not have pressure sensibility in sai. Thanks
How much is for the latest version of the mini computer thing? And how much was in this video, including the the extra hook-up for it to last a few more hours? Someone please answer!
Have you formally studied art or what art classes have you taken to build your drawing and painting skills. Also which Wacom driver did you down load for the LS800?
Hey, how your photoshop pencil is in motion? I couldn't really really setup the pen pressure on photoshop. I used all the others programs very ok, but ps... gosh.. It makes me really mad!
I have a motion tablet, but a larger model. I also have an iPad. I prefer the iPad for rough sketching but the tablet sure does shine when you want to use pressure and ad details. Great side by side. Thanks for sharing.
Motion Computing is a small company but they have been making tablets since 2001. They know what they are doing. The ls800 is a steal at 200 bucks. These things went for about 2000 when they came out some 5 years ago.
The thing that im not getting is this. All the videos on Motion computing tablets dont tell if... The harder you press, the darker it is and the lighter you press the lighter the line is. Do you know if this is true? or do you have to keep changing the opacity to get a ligher line and darker line
Hey, nice vid! It promted me to get an LS800 myself. Can I ask which wacom drivers you used? Only ones I found are the win7/vista ones from the LE1700 motion computing tablet pc. Not sure if I should install them yet.
Thanks.. How does the asus compare to say a lenovo x220 or x200 tho? Do they share the same pressure sensitivity? Cuz a lenovo slate tablet is comin out soon n im hopin it would hav a wacom digitizer...
one question! how does the ls800 compare to the asus ep121? i'm lookin to buy either one of them and i'm wondering which one has a better/more accurate drawing experience
Are you sure that it reads all of the 2gb ram? - a OS can say that 2gb is installed, even if it can´t use all of it. Iv bin on MotionComputing webside, and they say that is can run op to 1gb of ram (can they be wrong?). Iv seen free software to check RAM, and what of it is active. Thanks for your great videos :) rock on!
one question though: Does the 800x600 resolution of the ls800 hamper you whilst sketching? is much pan & zoom required?
How is it with artrage, do you have enough place to draw or are you constantly paning and zooming? ambientdesign claims that at least 1024x768 is required for artrage....
Your video is absolutly amazing (also you art :) ), thanks for made it! I thinking in buy a LE1700, a bit more big of this one. The big question is: are two vercion of the screen, whit View Anywhere and without View Anywere. Is some kind of antiglare process and should be are better for exteriors. But the price difference is very high. my Question: its impossible to work with the tablet without Vie anywere procces in exterior or in places with artificial light? Many thanks in advance!
I had an LS800 for a couple years as my primary computer when it was new. I loved that thing with XP. Eventually it wore out and I had to get a new computer, but nothing compared to the portability and precision. I illustrated a book on the thing and never needed to go to a desktop. If only they had a real pen for the ipad. Try rotating the thing 180 degrees. It gives you a nice hand rest with the extended battery.
i've noticed that while you're working with paint tool SAI on this computer, the toolbars take up about half of the screen space. is there a way to map one of the physical buttons on it to the tab key, so that you can press it to hide the toolbars?
How do you get the eraser to work normally in Paint Tool Sai? I've made sure the option in the dash board was selected but all it dose is what ever tool the pen tip is using.
this is a great video, i have been looking for a new tablet because mine is pretty outdated and has taken some abuse. I have no interest in the iPad. Apple generally makes some great products, but nothing about having an enlarged iphone entices me. lol. this may be the way to go.
Your art and your reviews are both fantastic! I decided I want to replace my laptop with a tablet, I think I'll go with the LS800 thanks to you. Outside of art programs, how is the computer experience on the LS?
Hey Latin, I actually went looking for this based on your review, since tablet drawing was messing me with a little bit, I stuck Autodesk Sketchbook on and love it, the only weird issues I'm having is I cannot get the Wifi working under Win7 Home Premium, I've got three alien devices in the dev-mgr -- Ethernet Controller, Audio device, and "Unknown Device" -- have run windows update till it won't go anymore, does this work on yours? Any advice?
You're doing a fantastic job helping people who don't have the know how (like me). Do you think the LS800 would work with Manga Studio? Thanks for everything.
Thank you for your generosity. Very useful video. I intend to print my drawings in a bigger size than the actual screen size. Do the programs you use allow to choose bigger resolutions (like the "Brushes" app for the iPad do)?
I currently have a MBP and wacom cintiq. I was looking for videos that show tablet PC's from an art perspective. Yours is the best video by far on that subject. Thank you so much for taking the time to post it. I feel so much more in the know now about what tablets can provide an artist. thank you, thankyou!! and I see you are a furry :-)
I love your videos!! Very Informative. I'm a student and really does a lot of notetaking at school, parks, subway. Am in NY. My main concern is looking for a tablet with an AWESOME BATTERY POWER. My main concern is schoolwork (MS Office, surfing, without really RAM hugging softwares).
Have several choices but could not really make the jump. PLS HELP. My choices are Motion, TC1100, and thinkpad. Can i get your opinion? Million thanks.
Great demonstration. I kind of figured it out the hard way, going from an LS1700 (the higher end version of this line) but it had one of the less bright screens (not an UltraView ViewAnywhere). So I went with the iPad, and drawing on it was indeed a pain. So I went back to an LS1600 that was just $150 on eBay... ViewAnywhere screen is bright and has good color. They're well built with a magnesium back plate and they run Photoshop, Painter and other basic drawing apps just fine.
There is software that is able to turn the Pogo into something touch sensetive and also has wrist detection so you can rub the iPad. Aperently it´s free so i expect it to show up in many drawing apps soon. But obviusly a wacom will always be the top noch solution for someone who wants to draw.
Thank you so much for your video. Very informative. I'm a student and curently looking for a real tablet since i do a lot of writing notes. Does this really get way too hot? My old tablet i think is already giving in. One more, does the battery last for long?
I think you've made a new market for the LS 800, heheh. After watching your review, I think I might just have to grab one. I'm so tired of my dumpy HP laptop, and I've been yearning for a nice touch screen that isn't too big or expensive. Have you used any 3D modeling programs on it, in particular SketchUp?
great vid it really is good to know other items are available to use. whats the specs on the ls800 that you have does it have wifi, GB? ssd? does it heat up, is it a 3G? where can I see one? And have you ever use it for 3d modeling of let say cars?
Hey, im thinking of buying the LS800 for myself and im just wondering, what RAM is compatible for the LS800? If possible could you link me to the RAM you bought for your own LS800
hey, you are a brilliant drawer. Do you have a job in drawing? if not i suggest you should get one because you are really talented, like you could become a cartoonist or something. I just wanted to say you are brilliant at drawing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
Excellent video, thank you so much. I had just bought a used LS800 myself and found this while browsing for info on the device. I found all 3 videos that you made for the LS800 to be very informative and useful. I just ordered myself the mini fan cooling fans that you showed in another video. I'm sticking with Windows XP for now and I'll stick with the 60GB HD, but I will likely upgrade the memory to 2GB and switch to Windows 7 once I'm getting a little more familiar with using a Tablet PC.
I was considering getting this but instead I went with something a little bit better for a little bit more.
Tecra M4
Pentium M 2.0 GHz
2 GB DDR2
nVidia GeForce Go 6600 TE
1400 x 1050
It's kind of big, high resolution with a real graphics card. I've played Left 4 Dead 2 on this so it is fairly powerful. It provides basic hardware acceleration in Photoshop. Because of that the battery is lacking, only about an hour and a half. It also is a little hot and loud, but it's plenty powerful for $350.
If you can't find it on eBay the equivalent to this tablet NEW starts at $2,000.
What would be the total cost of the tablet plus all the upgrades you have made, plus the external CD player so you can install Windows, plus all the software you have put into it?
Maybe you already owned some of those items, but to compare with the iPad for people who don't have those things already it would be useful.
Being a used and discontinued item, Do you get any kind of support or warranty from Motion?
I need to get me one of those Motion computer things. I got a Bamboo tablet for my computer thinking i will be able to draw better but i have found out that I am no good at drawing on that thing. I can draw on paper just fine but not on the Bamboo. I guess it has something to do with hand-eye cordnation.
Hey, Autodesk SketchBookPro! Nice! And to the iPad haters, the iPad simply wasn't designed for precision art like a graphics tablet or touchscreen computer. It's useful for about a million other things, though. For instance, after creating work in her Motion Computing LS800, she could carry around her finished work in a digital portfolio on her iPad. Now THAT'S impressive!
Great vid! I currently use the LE1600 and Sketchbook and Manga Studio. I wish more people knew how great the Motion Tablets are. That way they'd make something exclusively for graphic artists!
Totally playing with my motion computing tablet but I'm having trouble getting Pressure Sensitivity. Tried downloading the wacom tabletPC drivers, but it doesn't seem to work. :< Any ideas?
I've been wanting to become a digital artist for a long time, but I'm waiting till I'm out of school and working first, so I have money that I can invest in such hobbies. Since I was already sold on getting a Mac, I was considering the possibility of getting an iPad for sketching. I don't mind the idea of wearing a glove while drawing, so it comes down to the accuracy of the stylus. Depending on the application, I would think one could overcome the drop in accuracy with tools like zoom and such.
Ive seen your other videos. I was wondering which you prefer now with the Griffen stylus you just bought for the iPad? I want a iPad for those apps but think I would prefer it over the Tablet pc cause it does other things.
Hey ummm.... what kind of Wacom pen should I get for it? I am likely going to purchase one of these. what are your major complaints about this device? Do you enjoy sketching on the Ipad or the LS800 more? thank you so much for this video and the recommendations!
@yanorei it comes with one so no need to buy another. I like to sketch on it I don't see any real issues with it. It heats up but that comes from any pc without a fan.
@LatinVixen I love your videos!! Very Informative. I'm a student and really does a lot of notetaking at school, parks, subway. Am in NY. My main concern is looking for a tablet with an AWESOME BATTERY POWER. My main concern is schoolwork (MS Office, surfing, without really RAM hugging softwares).

Hi, Thanks for posting such well done videos. I just got an LS800 with 1GB and no OS. I would really appreciate it if you tell me how you were able to get 2GB of RAM and make it work on Windows 7. I thought there was only one slot to add RAM and Motion does not say it works on Windows 7. From your video, I see that you made it work. Which specific 2GB RAM card did you buy and pls send me the link. Is there any thing else I need to know on the procedure to set it up properly. You rock.
@creativepower213 take the one gig out it has inside and buy a 2 gig stick, works just as easy as popping another in. Windows 7 needs to be installed via external CD player which you can easily get anywhere pretty cheap.
And motion has old information as the computer is no longer supported so yes it reads 2 gigs. I got my 2 gig stick on amazon for about $50.
don't need external CD player, you can just prepare a USB flash drive, or USB HDD to install windows.. you will need another computer to prepare the media for install, but there are plenty of guides available out there. You'll probably need a rather large flash stick for win7 depending on the ISO size, probably 4 or 6gb.
I have been using ArtRage for years, I loved it. But I never did like the pencil tool. But I eventually bought SketchBook Pro because it just felt better to sketch with than ArtRage.
I have to admit I am impressed with 800. My Gateway tablet pc is getting so old that it is falling apart, literally. The hinge kinda broke and the screen wont stay up. the 800 sounds like a great cheap replacement.
@Fathead885 for a non artistic aspect it is better. For art the slate pc beats it hands down. Plus comparing a full computer next to a mobile OS isn't really fair per say. I just compared them in artistic aspects.
I agree. I just got one myself off of Ebay. Waht a Great Deal ! I also Prefer that Over an Ipad easily ! Much more Capable due to Peripherals and Way more Progs than Apple.
Greatest thing about the LS800-if u didnt already know, is its ability to hook up a Standard PC or Laptop via Graphics cable, and Use the Tablet as a Touchscreen Monitor !! Thats Way cool. I also bought an ASUS Ion PC, 8x8inches. Very small-that And the Tablet as a PC monitor is a great Combo.
I really like this. I wish their newer ones were cheaper though. I find whenever I get a new gadget it needs to be faster than what I currently have or it gets tossed to the wayside fast or gets replaced fast. I currently have a beasty i7 rig at home, so I've been looking at Eurocom or Boxx for a laptop with a desktop processor. I really wish I knew if I'd use that a lot because if I were on the go I think I'd only use office apps, which seem better on the iPad because of the bigger keyboard...
This is a very helpful video.. I was thinking about getting iPad.. but was really looking for something taht was just for drawing on.. and I am going to order a ls800... it looks great! Why did you decide to put Windows 7 on it? Just curious what benifits you gain from this and if its really necessary? Thanks ^-^
@unit613 yes because it needs the latest drivers from wacom. I decided to use the wacom drives from wacom europe and used the bamboo drivers. Had to test a few and see which I liked best for windows 7
//...@ojciecsmerf it's wacom it works very very well...//
@LatinVixen LS 800 is a Wacom product? I use Citiq, so I can imagin how good wacom's are, but I don't think that MotionComputing is attachet to wacom anyway
great video thanks for taking the time to upload it:) i do have one question cause i've never used sketchbook before. Does it have layers like photoshop does? I'm great at photoshop but i imagine that sketchbook works better for the LS800
i've never used sketchbook before, does it have layers like photoshop does? I just ordered a ls800 from ebay (270!!!) It was a great price and I'm looking forward to getting it:) I think your video helped me make that descision thanks:)
what's the battery life like with your new SSD? did the SSD change affect battery life? i use GIMP a lot and like to be able to zoom in and out quickly while airbrushing different layers, etc. might the bigger version be better for me, dunno? nice vid and am impressed by your smarts too.
@jchart01 Battery seems to do a little better. As for wanting a bigger version why not look into the le1600 by motion computing. Same sort of specs, cheap on ebay but larger screen and has a fan :D
Wow neat. You're right I never even heard of these. I mean I HAVE seen tablet only models in places but nothing like this. I'd imagine the only problem with the motion would be trying to press those small buttons on the UI but... maybe I am too used to my god awful huge res on my desktop :). Thanks for uploading.
Owned a Cintiq---TOO HOT, bought this tablet----everything the 12WX should of been...less bulky- much faster-----and requires less calibration. Oh, it runs so much better and the biometric can zoom in..... worth the investment
Hi! I appreciate your being so patient in replying us all here. Hey, on top of it could run the Photoshop CS3, doesn't it experience lagging. After watching your video I put this Ls800 on top of my list to buy for a flatting job alternative for the cintiq 12 since the price is a good deal.
Thank you! i bought a motion cumputing right after I saw this vid

LemurX497 1 year ago
great vid it really is good to know other items are available to use. whats the specs on the ls800 that you have does it have wifi, GB? ssd? does it heat up, is it a 3G? where can I see one? And have you ever use it for 3d modeling of let say cars?

Have you played with the microphone on the LS800? I'm just wondering if it could record a lecture while i take notes.

LS800 is better for broader lines as for the Ipad is better for people who like to really sketch things out :)

Does the wacom pen have pressure sensitivity on the ls800?
TheFlameEssence 1 year ago
Excellent video, thank you so much. I had just bought a used LS800 myself and found this while browsing for info on the device. I found all 3 videos that you made for the LS800 to be very informative and useful. I just ordered myself the mini fan cooling fans that you showed in another video. I'm sticking with Windows XP for now and I'll stick with the 60GB HD, but I will likely upgrade the memory to 2GB and switch to Windows 7 once I'm getting a little more familiar with using a Tablet PC.

what drivers are you using ? I mean as far as, are you using the le1700 windows 7 drivers or the xp drivers for ls800 ?

I was wondering how you typed on one of these things. Do you have to open up the on screen keyboard to type?

hei, how did u integrate the wacom pen with the tablet?
sweet man, i will buy it soon :)
andrewdwipakencana 1 year ago
I was considering getting this but instead I went with something a little bit better for a little bit more.
Tecra M4
Pentium M 2.0 GHz
2 GB DDR2
nVidia GeForce Go 6600 TE
1400 x 1050
It's kind of big, high resolution with a real graphics card. I've played Left 4 Dead 2 on this so it is fairly powerful. It provides basic hardware acceleration in Photoshop. Because of that the battery is lacking, only about an hour and a half. It also is a little hot and loud, but it's plenty powerful for $350.
joshsniper27 1 year ago
If you can't find it on eBay the equivalent to this tablet NEW starts at $2,000.
What would be the total cost of the tablet plus all the upgrades you have made, plus the external CD player so you can install Windows, plus all the software you have put into it?
Maybe you already owned some of those items, but to compare with the iPad for people who don't have those things already it would be useful.
Being a used and discontinued item, Do you get any kind of support or warranty from Motion?
Grafight2 1 year ago

Klonoa115 1 year ago

Have several choices but could not really make the jump. PLS HELP. My choices are Motion, TC1100, and thinkpad. Can i get your opinion? Million thanks.

You rock.
creativepower213 1 year ago
@creativepower213 take the one gig out it has inside and buy a 2 gig stick, works just as easy as popping another in. Windows 7 needs to be installed via external CD player which you can easily get anywhere pretty cheap.
And motion has old information as the computer is no longer supported so yes it reads 2 gigs. I got my 2 gig stick on amazon for about $50.
LatinVixen 1 year ago
@creativepower213
don't need external CD player, you can just prepare a USB flash drive, or USB HDD to install windows.. you will need another computer to prepare the media for install, but there are plenty of guides available out there. You'll probably need a rather large flash stick for win7 depending on the ISO size, probably 4 or 6gb.

LV ---> Cool video. Try loading Thinix Touch on your Motion ---- provides a good touch interface for tablets.

LatinVixen 1 year ago
Nice Scetch BTW !
xtraflo 1 year ago
I really like this. I wish their newer ones were cheaper though. I find whenever I get a new gadget it needs to be faster than what I currently have or it gets tossed to the wayside fast or gets replaced fast. I currently have a beasty i7 rig at home, so I've been looking at Eurocom or Boxx for a laptop with a desktop processor. I really wish I knew if I'd use that a lot because if I were on the go I think I'd only use office apps, which seem better on the iPad because of the bigger keyboard...

great video thanks for taking the time to upload it:) i do have one question cause i've never used sketchbook before. Does it have layers like photoshop does? I'm great at photoshop but i imagine that sketchbook works better for the LS800
Also how much does sketchbook cost?

@rasteely Yes it has layers, as for the price just look it up online to find the price.

what's the battery life like with your new SSD? did the SSD change affect battery life? i use GIMP a lot and like to be able to zoom in and out quickly while airbrushing different layers, etc. might the bigger version be better for me, dunno? nice vid and am impressed by your smarts too.
