no, it was used as a humane form of badger control, but also as sport, rarely were badgers hurt. only for the purposes of baiting were badgers harmed. badgers were spread to areas lacking in badgers, for the sport of digging them up, (as well as for trials) this does not stress a badger very much atall, and usually they are unharmed by it. unless of course they are humanely dispatched.
