  • i love planes i am a captain pilot on airblue my offical captain namses is captain faizan mahmood therefore i do why the prop has seemed to slow it i caused by the props spining but whn they takeoff they get the anno luminus effect tht is whyy

  • Q-400!! Very cool planes!

  • I love how the whole plane starts to shake, and when you talk, it sounds like a robot in the air.

  • prop is spinning at 1020 rpm on takeoff ,.,, then slows to 900 after some altitude.. . FYI

  • No this is becouse the prop rotations match with camera frame rate :) if prop is rotating with 4000 rotations per minute this mean for one sec it will be about may be 20 ... so if camera is recording with 20 frames per secound and here is you no rotating propeller :D

  • i wonder how many people freak and tell the attendent the engine shut off each week of flight.

  • I think it just looks like that because it matches the camera's shutter speed.

  • If I'm not mistaken, this only happens when viewed on the recording, not in real life...something to do with the frame rate of the recording equipment.

  • thats kinda scary dude... i will be shouting in the plane.. LOL

  • My friend rides one of these from US to his school in Dominica, via connecting flight. Do they go fast like the normal jet liners?

  • no, about 500 km/h...(ground speed)

  • That landing gear sure looks weak.

  • but it is not...

  • It`s a Dash 8.

  • 400

  • wow nice clip and, thanks 4 posting and, type Ethiopian cockpit and, enjoy my video u gonna love it!

  • lights dont make a prop seem slower, even jet engines reduce throttle when positive rate of climb is achieved. Didnt you hear the noise level go down as you climbed??

  • disregard the above comment.

  • DHC-8.Not EHC-8.

  • LOL you fail

    DHC-8 with two PWC PW100...

  • yup this is a dash-8 love it

  • Horizon Air!? I Love turbo props. Window seats next to the engines are the coolest.

  • What is the difference between turboprops and probs?

  • turboprops are turbine engines with props on them it counts as turbine time. props are regular piston or reciprocating engines

  • Its a lower power jet engin with a propeller in the front spinning with a fan in the back. A Cessna 172 uses only propeller for thrust.

  • mmm love dash8's

  • I love turboprops. I find on any propeller-engined aircraft, there is a smoother, more pleasant sensation that you are truly flying. Jets are fun but they don't give off quite the same feeling, obviously because of the speed

  • I didn't think it was allowed to use electronic equipment prior to the cruise phase??

  • The reason why it seem that propellor is not moving is because the shutter speed is opening and closing at the same rpm of the blades rotating on the prop.

  • You are correct ceddie2000. The framerate of this digital camera is 30 frames / sec. The rpm of the propeller must be a perfect multiple of of 30 and thus we get the strobe affect making it appear that the propeller has stopped spinning.

  • WOW, thats a crazy effect!, thanks for sharing the video, did you get any landing shots, i want to see those tires touching down.

  • @dubhouse you will die next flight

  • @ceddie2000 I have a different point of view. The closer we get to the speed of light, the slower objects seem to be moving. This is why it seems the propellers are moving slower then they actually are. Here is a different example, the standard living room fan..when it spins really fast, you can actually start making out individual blades. This has been proven with atomic clocks ..one clock in an airplane, the other on the ground. in the air, it seems you are moving slower, then on the ground

  • I am not sure if the propellers were moving really fast, because the blurring of the blades, could be because the wondow was dirty(?), but probably because the Dash 8 doesn't havean APU and engine no. 1 stops rotating for airconditioning and electrical puropses

  • WHAT?

  • Everyone knows that the Dash 8 is by far the best prop in service, but c'mon the Dash 8-300 is a better variant than the 400.

  • jmr604: Thanks for replying re: my question about takeoff speed. My husband was a passenger on a turbo prop and noted the speed seemed slower then a jet, including a commuter jet he had previously taken. Cruising distance was lower as well. And the plane was very noisy!

  • its a DeHavilland Dash 8! I absoloutley love them. Rotation speed is about 135 on a standard day at MTOW.

  • These planes are so small. I remember boarding a filght from Detroit to Ithaca, NY and seeing this shit and I knew before I got on the plane that it was going to be a tight squeeze! I'm 6'3", 225 lbs and my knees almost touched my forehead in one of these little planes, they're so tiny. They remind me of little model airplanes that little kids throw up in the air.

  • That's why these kinds of planes are called cloudhoppers.

  • is the prop moving? it seems to have stopped near to the end of the vid

  • Yes, the prop was moving. Read the description of the video as to why it looked like that.

  • the prop is moving at really high speed, so it looks like it stopped. If you take a closer look you'll see kind of blurriness around it, it means it's moving

  • yes. usual speed of takeoff

  • What is usual takeoff speed for this type of plane?

  • About 100 knots.

  • where is this at?

  • that's LAX (los angeles)
