  • Booo

  • Watching this after finishing Rome

  • I love I, Claudius..... So nice to watch again on a rainy day

  • Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out on the 5 conspirators!

  • Are all the episodes on here?

  • 5 people must have ate 'something'.

  • If I haven't thanked you already- thank you!

  • It's great to finally see it. I've only read the books. Also I was told that the snake sequence was parodied in Black Adder.

  • Poor Augustus. So nobel, so idealistic, so naive as to what evil a heart can conjure.

  • Ahhhhh, superb script writing, .......I had almost forgotten...

  • Not that old chicken story again! I love that comment!

  • @spectrum99122 And also... as quick as boiled asparagus, I'll have you out!

  • i study Romans everyday! ive always avoidded this film coz it looked old but im glad i watched it. its a good film!

  • I've just watched the whole series again.....for the fifth or sixth time! This is definitely my favourite TV mini-series and if only a fraction of this history is true ? then Ancient Rome must have been a pretty stressful time and a place to live in :-)

  • Derek Jacobi FTW!!!

Thanks so much for uploading! Been looking for this for ages!!

  • awsomeness!!!!!!!!!

    good shit ! ;p funny

  • Thank you very much for uploading, I have heard this was a very good show and am glad I get to see it.

  • This is good shit!

  • it must have been something he ate

  • Oh, I care very much whether he lives or dies...

  • THANK YOUUU! :D

  • My third time watching this! Thanks again

  • looking back you can see how cheaply it was made but the acting was remarkable...the awards it won were well deserved. I remember it being televised and everybody was talking about it. Thankyou for posting...

  • love,love,love Rome lives. Christian=lion sh##

  • I Claudius is one of my ancestors

  • @ 56:15 "they say a snake bit her once (Livia) and DIED". Sian Phillips a GREAT female villian with the looks to match. like a live version of Cruella De Ville. she also played the scheming, nasty Reverend Mother Mohiam in Dune.

  • @ 56:15 "they say a snake bit her once (Livia) and DIED". GREAT female villian with the looks to match. like a live version of Cruella De Ville.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. My VHS version has just chewed itself up and my DVD version has got cracks in the centre and won't play anymore... yes, I watch this a lot! One of my favourites.. of course.

  • 6:28 Its Brian Blessed without his beard; its like Christ without his cross!

  • @tekatetikitiki Turn off your caps key on your parent's computer. Puck up Tacitus or Seutonius and read the physical descriptions of the Emperors. Robert Graves was a classical scholar as well.

  • Poldark

  • Best TV series ever!!!

  • @tekatetikitiki "Roman" had by the first century mixed linage. They have been interacting with many peoples...the original histories mention that there were blondes and redheads. Augustus and Caligula were definitely blond.

  • The book is pure awesomeness. No adaptation can evoke such sheer horror. But the British series is great, on the other hand.

  • Probably the best mini-series ever made. The three people who disliked the clip obviously didn't know what sort of video they were clicking on, because anyone with an interest in history can't help but love this epic show.

I think the POLDARK series is the only one that comes even remotely close to being as good as this and i read all of those books so i'm a bit biased :-)

Thanks for re-posting the longer length videos. I do know of the time and effort it takes to get these uploaded. Well done.

  • I love most British productions,,,,EXCEPT THE SITUATIONS LIKE THESE: LOL!!: The producers should have at least bought some BROWN OR BLACK CONTACT LENSES for some of these Romans, who BARELY were Germanic, or CELTIC, fair eyed people. THE SAME IS TRUE WITH THE BLOND OR REDISH HAIR..

  • @tekatetikitiki Augustus and many other of the major figures of the period had blonde hair; this is confirmed by numerous ancient sources, and indeed by the pigments on their statues (Roman statues were, contrary to previous opinion, painted, and the paint can be restored by chemical analysis). Then again you're probably a troll so...

  • @TheHaeresiarch: OF COURSE, THERE WERE EXCEPTIONS, BABIE.... JUST BECAUSE RAMSES HAD RED HAIR, WHICH I THINK HE HAD.... DOES IT MEAN THAT ANCIENT OR MODERN EGYPTIANS ARE WHITE AND FAIR HAIRED??? GIMME A BREAK!!!

  • This was the best mimi series ever. Thanks so much Cuculus74

  • Cuculus74 I could email you a case of Bud Light if I was able to for uploading all of this. Many thanks!

  • @MegaBeerFart

I reckon, You can email to me BIG PICTURE of BIG CHEST with 'Bud Light'. I'd be happy!

  • @MegaBeerFart

Why light? Light anything sucks...send him proper beer instead, not some some bottled dishwater.

  • "Excellent! Excellent! Phallus! See they're well taken care of"

"Please stop calling me that :<"

  • i was an actor sir... now every one is an actor in Rome . I'll tell you something... the theater never was what it was. Could be a direct quote out of those trying to raise the money for the next B'way production.

  • Last post... I would love to eat lying down like that! So comfy!

  • Oh yes.. Derek Jacoby( sp?) he really is wonderful. Even his tiny part in Nanny McPhee. What a great actor!

  • This brings back such memories. MPT . Sitting and watching each episode with mom dad and my younger sister. I wil admit that some of these scenes were a bit shocking for a young person to see but by today's standards not even blinkable ... to sort of coin a phrase. I have seen this actor a million times but at the momment his name is escaping me. Thanks for posting

  • Just watched Caligula, the Bob Guccione quasi-porn epic starring Malcolm McDowell, Helen Mirren, Peter O'Toole and John Gielgud. I recommend it to any who enjoys this. It gets a bad press because of how utterly tasteless it is, but at the same time its foulness is matched by an incredible artistic sensibility.

  • Best mini-series EVER!!

  • I hope the remake does justice to the original, though it will never compare to it. Check out the dream cast I did for it, let me know what you think of it.

  • I've loved this series ever since I was 7!

  • The executive producers of HBO's 'Rome' is teaming up with BBC to do a remake of 'I, Claudius' I've heard!

  • @HistoryLover1550

I am now 45 but remember this fantastic series when I was a kid. Derek Jacobi went to my school in Leyton, London E10.

I went on to study Eng and Classics at University. This is one of the books and series that inspired me. Brilliant British acting at its best...

  • @lokichakra "I, Claudius" is one of the great historic tv dramas that got me into history as a kid, Im an English major minoring in history myself, I enjoy the Classics too!

  • Comment removed

  • @HistoryLover1550 That would be the televisual event on the century! But who could possibly do Livia justice?

  • @sharomanet Helen Mirren would be a good candidate i think.

  • @HistoryLover1550 Good call!, though could she pull off a 30 year old Livia?

  • @sharomanet Helen Mirren was awesome as Elizabeth I, I think she could pull off the role. She's a DAMN GOOD actress!!!

  • @HistoryLover1550 They may as well save their energy. There will never be anything to top Derek Jacobi's performance, NEVER!

  • @logancody05 I've to agree with you there, Derek jacobi's performance was one of a kind. I can hardly think of an actor who could play the part better than him!

  • @HistoryLover1550 Thank you for agreeing, I seriously believe that "I Claudius" was hands down the most brilliant thing ever to have graced a TV screen. I'm a history lover as well, especially the period leading up to and during WWII. In fact, I've just published a novel about that very period.

  • @logancody05 I've LOVED "I, Claudius" ever since i watched reruns of the episodes when I was nine years old. it was one of many historically based tv series that drove my passion for Ancient History and the Roman Empire.

  • @HistoryLover1550 Ancient Roman Empire, certainly an incredible period. My God, do you realize you can spend your entire life studying European history and barely scratch the surface. No wonder they regard us Yanks as upstarts.

  • @HistoryLover1550 But who'd be good enough to reprise any of these roles?

  • @jmg3116 Excellent question, i made a Dream Cast of who I would choose to play the roles, check it out on my channel. The actors/actresses would have to be REALLY GOOD to play these historic characters!

  • @HistoryLover1550 I'd rather see an I,Caligula to be honest. More fun.

  • @Noodles37UK That would be cool!

  • Brian Blessed = pimp.

  • Derek Jacobi is just bloody AMAZING!!!

  • the actors supposedly found it very hard to be so incredibly hard to be rude to the slaves

  • This is simply one of the best TV series ever made

  • What is I, Clavdivs?

  • @CiferAndMich a novel by English writer Robert Graves, written in the form of an autobiography of the Roman Emperor Claudius. As such, it includes history of the Julio-Claudian Dynasty and Roman Empire, from Julius Caesar's assassination in 44 BC to Caligula's assassination in AD 41.

In 1976, BBC Television adapted the book and its sequel into the TV serial, also entitled I, Claudius. The production won four BAFTAs in 1977 and three Emmys in 1978.

  • @kinoptika "from Julius Caesar's assassination in 44 BC" does the book really go back far? because the TV series only goes back to 24 BC (as it states with the 7 anniversary of the Battle of Actium)

  • i'm pretty sure gaius and lucius are both mentally retarded

  • Tiberius isn't a very good actor

  • At first i saw a p3nis! Scared the crap outta me

  • This is one of the best discoveries of my life... Cuculus74, thanks! All the Roman uploads are a treasure.

  • @MrSunspotter Thanks for good words.

  • @MrSunspotter I AGREE. I taped this back in 1976 on PBS BUT all my video tapes got lost in a move. one of the best acted series of all time. looking forward to the HBO-BBC re-make. IF their smart, they will just re-use this script.

  • Oh Sian Phillips playing Liva and listering to the guest speaker it must pass through her mind that at home she has the greatest of the greatest speech makers her husband Peter O Toole he could overshowdow any actor on this show. How must that effect your life as an actor you must compare in your mind,

  • Brian Blessed FTW!

  • Reality: Octavian tried to wipe Anthony from the history books. He wouldn't have allowed a long poem about him read in front of his whole court.

  • I swear that is the gay German Lieutenant from Allo Allo @26 : 20 .

  • @ValerieBarlow Yes it is. Recognise his eyes and nose.

  • Hmmm...didn't know Risk was that ancient.....

  • I know that Jon Pertwee had a brother who was an actor, do you think the man playing Agrippa is his brother ?

  • @vasp99 John Paul was Agrippa. Bill Pertwee was not in the series.

  • @DavidFullam Thanks for the timely response friend . I know a lot about a little and a little about a lot but the names of performers ... not so much .

  • @vasp99 My pleasure. If you can track down a classic Brit Com called called "Dad's Army," you can see Bill Pertwee. He plays an air raid warden during World War 2.

  • @vasp99 John Paul was Agrippa.

  • @DavidFullam Thank you .

  • my fatehr had told me about this seires.. and i kinda grew up admiring the Roman empire (hystorically speaking, of course)

so when they re-aired this show.. i a couple of eyars ago, i was hooked on it :D

  • Genius! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have wanted to see this series again for years. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for uploading these! I adore this show.

  • Bravo!!!!! this should be required waching in US High schools.

it would teach them how to speak at least.

  • @Digilinus They could just talk with rocks in their mouths until they became excellent speakers. Learn from the best.

  • Simply a masterpiece.
